  1. I managed to get a steel one for £8.98 off ebay, so I'm a penny up!
  2. Exactly the point, Seahawk. I have no intention of building any of the other subjects so buying all the canopies individually was never on the cards.
  3. Thanks for the info but £12.99 for one canopy is beyond my means :-)
  4. Are there any after-market canopies available for this kit though?
  5. I like their Spitfire Vb (though it needs a new canopy, prop & undercarriage doors) and the MS.406. The Hurricane isn't so good. Even the inaccurate ones are good for practising paint jobs and weathering. I'm definitely on the lookout for one of these D.520s. Well done Fuad.
  6. The spine looks pretty smooth with the primer on. I have a similar job to do on a Fujimi one so interested to see the paint n place... John.
  7. The guns and a set of rockets are also supplied in the old Airfix Hurricane I/II kit. Not as good as the 3D or Pavla versions but you also get a kit to hone your sanding & scribing skills, for a similar price. I think the Vickers gun was developed from the pom-pom gun used by the Royal Navy. Same calibre and similar appearance but no connection I know of.
  8. If by Bofors gun you are referring to the Vickers S guns, these are freely available as after-market sets. 3D-Kits do a set in plastic, and I think Pavla do a Hurricane upgrade set that includes them. Mk IIDs and Mk IVs both used 40mm cannon. John.
  9. Ta for the scribing tips, David H, I was going to start a thread on this but you've answered my questions so no need now! How's it going, wellsprop? Looks to be coming together very nicely... John.
  10. Thanks, might get a few in for diorama purposes then, parked next to aircraft. John.
  11. So what scale actually is it? The box says 1/72, the web page says 1/76 at the top but 1/72 further down?
  12. It's the construction of the tail wheel doors I'm curious about really. How do you get them the right curvature? I don't really understand what you mean by the first bit in "rolled and trimmed"...
  13. That looks good. How did you tackle the retractable tail wheel?
  14. Both my ruler and eyeball are now a little worn, so time to let a bit of technology take the strain. Thanks for all the advice, it looks likes like a trip to Aldi is in order. Shame it means going to Croydon. Sometimes you have to suffer for your hobby. John.
  15. Good morning! I've decided that a caliper would be useful, preferably a digital one, and was wondering what you lot use? There's a few 150mm ones on ebay for about a fiver that claim to be accurate to +/- 0.1mm. Are they good enough? Thanks, John.
  16. Ah well, knew it deep down but didn't stop me getting excited at the prospect!
  17. Are WEM Colourcoats and Xtracolour not made in the UK though? Because they're not very good either...
  18. My first thoughts when I started to have problems was that poor housekeeping was to blame. I resolved to be much more scrupulous about cleaning up the tin and reseating the lid properly. It hasn't made a great deal of difference. Recently I opened a tin of Humbrol, shook and stirred it well and used a small amount of paint. The tin was resealed so that it looked 'as new'. A week later I went to use some more and a skin was over the top and the gloop underneath was unusable. Regarding the difficulty in achieving a good finish, this is the same whether from an old or new tin.
  19. Oops...meant to say "Try Ebay. There's also a few listed on there".
  20. Well it's still listed on the Airfix site - http://www.airfix.com/ There's also a few listed on there.
  21. I've no answers but I thoroughly agree. Once my brush painting was the best part of my model making, now it's as bad as the rest. This is caused by having to fight the paint every inch of the way. Humbrol, Revell, WEM, Xtracolour, all of them. Rubbish. If anything is going to make me quit the hobby, this is it.
  22. I suppose that's where the problem lay, they were intended to attack unescorted bombers from Germany. No-one thought French coastal airfields would be in enemy hands. Lovely model.
  23. Oh yes, and for the Ib, you'll probably need the fabric type ailerons rather than the metal skinned ones fitted to Vbs. Especially if you do an early BoB version with no .303s. And the early exhaust too.
