  1. A silver Lysander...just a thought. I understand Special Hobby will be producing a Mk1. There are the options of the older Frog/Novo/Eastern Express or Airfix Mk1/III, or the Matchbox MkII with the Kora conversion set. Al
  2. Agreed. Reedoak figures are superb. I have no hesitation in recommending them. Al
  3. Sorry Chaps I completely misunderstood the question (didn't read the thread thoroughly). The "solid" part around the turret guardrail is a heavy weather cover that prevented rain and spray from entering the turret (source: John Pritchard, RAF HSL Some Further Notes of Interest, Airfix Mag, May 1980). In his article on the HSL in the Nov. 1979 issue he noted that craft seldom had the weather covers fitted around the turrets and they greatly detract from the look of the model. I've also gone through my references (including the film "For Those in Peril" - which is a brilliant contemporary source ) and I can't find a photo (other than those already posted) with the turret weather screens in place. Hope that's helpful. Al
  4. The turret is an Armstrong Whitworth affair that was fitted to early Avro Ansons and the like. I have the intention of detailing an Airfix HSL at some point in the future...(he says very optimistically). Al
  5. Splendid! Top modelling skills and a really clean and professional result. Al
  6. That sounds an intriguing idea! Look forward to seeing how the figures progress. Al
  7. Hi Kev Yes we have a delightful time sampling the culinary delights of North East Cornwall! It was my intensive modelling time (getting away from the work that has to pay the mortgage!). I note that amongst your references you haven't listed Reyonlds history of Short Boats in the Med: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mediterranean-MTBs-War-Flotilla-Operations/dp/0750922745/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1505683284&sr=1-2&keywords=Leonard+C+Reynolds+mtb Al
  8. Just got back to base after jollies and looked at some of my references...you might want to reconsider crew figures if you're modelling MTB77. I can't find a duffle coat on any picture of a Med based boat (but happy to be proven wrong). It could be so easy to get carried away with this but I think the Mini Art British tank and armoured car crews and tank riders, with a bit of judicious filing and Hornet Heads, might be a good starting point: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MT35069 https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MT35078 https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MT35071 http://www.historexagents.com/#HBH/8 Al
  9. Cracking job! Superb presentation - it captures the sense of power and speed. Al
  10. Stew You need to paint the area where the transfer is going white and then touch up afterwards. The colours ought to show up fine. Rob I misunderstood - I didn't realise that you had printed off the transfer sheet. Have you "fixed" it with a varnish or "fix"? I'm quite excited to see how these turn out. Al
  11. Hi Stew What's the resolution like on the transfers? Have you printed on clear or white paper? I'm interested to see how you get on with them (I don't know of anyone else who has used them). Al
  12. I'm interested to see what the 3D Boats weaponry paints up like. Al
  13. Thanks Anthony That might be interesting for the future although this was a bit of a one-off. Al
  14. I'm a bit late to this party! But it's looking good. Al
  15. My original pyro' is from the '70's and currently sits in a box in the garage. Mine had a dial to control the heat which I'm not sure featured on later models..At the time they were used to assemble animate and detail plastic figures such as Historex. My recollection is that the emergence of resin parts such as heads then limited the usefulness of the pyro's. The last time I used mine, it was decidedly unsafe. Al
  16. Cracking job and very useful and practical advice on aftermarket products. Al
  17. My apologies for this being a bit of a rubbish WIP - time has been pressing and the priority to get the job done. However, they're just about finished: Painted with Lifecolor and Vallejo acrylics, Games Workshop washes and varnished with Ronseal Matt varnish. They are deliberately in a "toy Soldier" style, so the only shadows are from the washes and there's no highlighting. Overall the figures were better than I was expecting. I'm now waiting for the varnish to dry so they can be wrapped up for Christmas Day! Al
  18. There...not the sharpest photo but I think it demonstrates the point...it is 1/72 scale. Al
  19. That looks rather excellent! From the look of the box art there are options to make the British cavalryman with the early war service cap. Early war German Hussar regiments had all the frogging and whistles in field grey. However, I'm not sure how likely the encounter modelled would have been - but it certainly looks dynamic! Al
  20. Thanks for the kind comments Jim. Wamwig, what started as a little update to the website has (out of necessity) involved a rebuild. However, it should be up again next week. Meanwhile my Twitter feed as some teasers of the latest figures: http://www.twitter.com/gunthwaite Incidentally, I'm a big fan of the Reedoak figures (which I saw mentioned in a thread earlier to day)...but they come at a price! I've just been trying to post a pic of a WAAF I'm in the middle of painting (I'll try again later) Al
