Starting point the fuselage, but thinning everything is necessary!

-
Yeah I saw there was a version released by Sword, that is probably an easier build - not looking forward to the split vac form windows at all!
-
Looking to start this as an USAF L-5 Korean War bird, of course it will need a lot of scratch building and I have part etch sets from the Airfix Cessna Bird Dog and a few other sets that will assist in smaller details I hope. The main pieces are in good condition and will need much test fitting and grinding to fit and keep the good fabric detailing on the wings and tailplanes.
Not much in the way of printed material on the type that I can find (particularly 1950’s use) but google helps. If anyone has any literature worth scanning It would be great to know?

Beautiful looking Nimrod, keep going!

Love the build and the detail you have managed to cram in to the interior. I have a 1/72 Matchbox Lynx to re-purpose as a 1970's 'Whif' the US Navy purchased the heli' so your methods are inspiring!

Good luck with your Aeroclub Venom. I've never had the pleasure to own one, although if your going to source parts from a donor Vampire kit, then it does not sound like it wont be an easy build. I'm trying to figure out (besides the undercarriage) what else could you use?
Cheers.. Dave
Using the undercarriage and some others small parts - gun carriage - air intake parts and some cockpit parts to add some more detail to the model. Some of the decals may be handy too but not sure of the squadron and scheme yet (will be RAF for sure).

Great build and a good looking Venom John, especially building it as the prototype- a beautiful aircraft. I have the 1/72 Aeroclub Venom fb.4 so very interested in your interpretation of the model and build techniques used
-
Thanks! I will do this

A stunning looking Vampire and a definite nod for a new Venom in the same scale!
Just starting a 1/72 Aeroclub Venom FB4 and considering using the Airfix Vampire for spares and upgrades to this kit.

So there were three Javelin articles? In numbers 1, 3 & 4?
-
Tempted to do a Revell Wellington Mk.II but perhaps as another version. I have read the Revell kit comes with spare parts that are not used in the boxes aircraft (Mk.II). What extra parts does it come with?
Also, it it the mpm mould or something different? Thanks

I am sure I saw a set of Magazines called Seventy Second Scale Modeller at an airshow once? Can anyone clarify this? I could kick myself for not buying them for reference, particularly as there was a great artical covering Gloster Javelin 1/72 builds.
-
I have the plastyk Javelin and indeed after some modelling skill it should look great
. I am considering an FAW.1 or 3

Would the 1/72 Revell Hurricane IIa wings fit the new Airfix Mk.1?

Very nice. I have sooo many Meteor kits, not sure why, but I can't resist them.
I think perhaps the meteor just looks right (all variants!, most schemes too

Next week I should be able to get my hands on the old one.
That would be amazing Rossm

I seem to recall an article in SAM back in the '80s covering the detailing of the Airfix Meatbox F3. I may have it in the magazine stash, if I can locate it (which may not be possible). IIRC it was one of a series called "Improving the Image" about enhancing old, but (in the opinion of the author) fundamentally accurate kits.

If anyone has access to any of these articles, I would be very interested to see them!

All added detail will be totally my own diy and from the spares box.. (looking forward to that bit although a new canopy would be very handy and will probably source decals from spares.
Will probably go with a camo F3 then as there looks to be a bit of choice of squadrons! (thanks rossm)
I will have a look into each of the Squadrons listed -1,56,63,66,74,91,92,124,222,245,257,263,266,500,504,541,616-
The detail looking into each front nacelle interests me and I wish to add something here and also improve the skin of of the aircraft too.

Looking to improve and detail an Airfix Meteor F3 over the coming weeks and as always (it seems) I am looking at suitable schemes and squadron usage before I even start modelling...
What Squadrons used this early Meteor, from other sources I have:
Interested more in the Camouflaged versions.
Meteor F1
No. 616 Manston (also Debden?)
Meteor F3
No. 616
No. 41
No. 74
No.1 (codes JX-)
No. 245
No. 616 2nd TAF
No. 266 (codes FX-)

Nice start. I have just got myself this and also an old frog dh60 to make a moth major.
-
Does anyone know if the USAF used the UC-64A Norseman postwar? ie. Korea etc.
Looking to find some source if it was used by the military post 1945/7 so as to build one in later style star and bar markings.
Can but try!
