Beautiful Spitfire Chris,
The Rebuild was undertaken by a company called Historic Flying Ltd) They are also currently restoring second Spit Mk.IX that also flew for the Czech A.F

I have found a 1/72 Central belly tank from the Academy Hellcat, is this suitable? any suggestions.
-
Hello Trev,
The Seafire XV carried a centre line drop tank exactly like that of the later Seafire 46/47`s and it also had the under wing `combat tanks' carried by these versions too......both of which are in the Airfix Seafire 46/47 kit if thats any help.
All the best
Tony O
Thanks thats good news because the centre tank would be easy to make from scratch. Thanks!

Did the Seafire Mk.XV carry drop tanks in Royal Navy service?
If so what type? I have seen photos of the Seafire Mk.III with droptanks tanken from P-40 Warhawks/ Kittyhawks and hung on centreline belly tanks and Late FR.47's carrying bullet type droptanks similar to the Hellcat but never on the Mk.XV?
Thanks guys!

Wonderfull collection. Can't wait to see some lesser known types, PR.IX etc.. How about a Va? or a nightfighter Vb?

Thinking of using Solid colour decal -extra dark sea grey- from Fantasy Printshop to complete seafire camo, anygood?

Yes, I have thinned down the wings of the Airfix Mk.Vc. You have to rescribe the aileron too, on the upper surface. I used no particular magic, just wet and dry for the inside and the edge of a blade for the trailing edges. I recommend the method proposed by the other posters.
Ok thanks for the advise, it sound a bit of a horror show to me, its a pity Airfix couldn't product such class as thier Mk.24 and FR47 in 1:48. Well I have gone the thinning route and it looks very promissing.
Sorry Aeroclub I am going it alone...this time
Thanks

I may use the 'new' mould 'c' wings from the 1:72 Airfix Vc Spitfire but they are way to Thick when viewed head on... The trailing edge and tips are the tick also.
Has anyone successfully thinned a set of these to use? how did you do it? any tips would be very useful

The only thing really wrong with the Ventura kits was the amount of clean up and they did drastically improve between the Spit 18 and the 22/24 kit. That and the lack of cockpit detail, although some would say that's merely an opportunity.
As for my planned (fictional) FR.21, the SAM wings fit the MPM PR XIX better, and as I got a load of them cheap, one has already been butchered.
I think we have skewed the post covering the new Airfix Mk.XIX!

-
Mk XV? You'll need an F. XII as a basis - short nose Griffon. Or buy a Ventura (or whoever has it now as they're back out under a new label) one off the shelf.
Not so bad news. Currently building the Airfix XIX. The spinner needs fettling and some gentle clean up all round is needed, but the fit is really positive. Except for the underside camera ports which are really anaemic for the holes. Krstal Kleer there methinks. Not too keen on the shape of the radiators as TIM pointed out and the carb intake looks a little small. Apart from that, I'm well chuffed with it.
Bad news. The old Airkit/SAM F.21 does not fit. I now have a knacked wing but that just means an opportunity to do the FR.XIVc.
The new XIX is very good, nice detailing but still needs love, care and scratch built detail...just my kind of model!
An FR.XIVc would be a good conversion. The Mk.XV looks do to go, I have an 1:72 Mk.XII and there looks to be only a few mm difference...nothing a saw can sort.
-
I've spent an interesting evening dry fitting various wings to the new kit and the best fits so far are the Airfix C wing (which does have it's own issues)
Oh (...excited) I have a pair of 1:72 Airfix Vc Wings...a bit thick though but the dretail looks good. I wonder if I can manage a Mk.XV from the XIX kit? what wings would I need?

Only £10.00...Just got myself a Revell starter set airbrush, complete with air gun- paint feed bottle attached, air hose/ can attachment and a can of badger compressed air.
Tried it out on a scrap model and the finnish is very good..when compared to my streaky hand painting! Well impressed!

Liking that very much!

Hi guy`s
Does anyone know what marking options are in the old Heller and airfix boxing`s of the above the new one from Xtrakit? seems to have seems to have gone from the future releases at Hannants ,(so it looks like Kingkits getting an order) also i know Fantasy print do prototype P`s but would they be to big to fit on the boom`s of a Vampire??
Dek.
P.S What about a Mystery jet 2 conversion from someone .( always makes me think of Scooby Doo).
Yes it was 112 Sqn RAF, I am actually planning a Venom and am needing this particually kit (airfix.heller) for the single seat fuselage.

Humbrol 11 can give a very good finish, I have a tinlet that must be from the 1970's and after a lot of mixing it is still goin strong.
-
If anyone is debating to go to FL this moring......go go go it was fanghttastic, not many Fighter Collection a/c but even if you just see the 7 Spits vs the FW190 and Buchon act that opens the show.
(oh and stand on the tank bank at the west of the runway.........wicked!!!!!)
-
Now is there anywhere i can see a list of the participants?
on the duxfird website
3 b-25's
2 FW190's
8 Spits
6 P-51's
4 Hurricanes
4 Yak's
etc...
-
The FW190 flew in today
the pilot was presented with some Spitfire beer (very nice touch)

Thinking of making a 1/72 P-80 Shooting Star, should I invest in the Airfix version or get a Sword model?

Trev,
Thanks for your reply. The deed has been done!! I've just finished a Life-Like Fury I, converted to a Fury II. BUT... I've got a flavour for Furies now and wish to start the Montex kit, that is, when it arrives.
You can't have enough reference material and I thought that the Mushroom book looked promising. Any good?
Thanks for your offer.
Regards,
Trubbie
Yeah the Mushroom Books is good, I have only had a quick glance at it though, but I am sure its a good buy and read
Any photos of the Life-Like furyII !

Hi Trubbie,
this sounds interesting, what are you planning.
PM your address and I will send you some info!
-
Class build of a very nice kit! well done Blackbird1 !
Nice clean finish
-
Good luck! I've gone down this route before. The results look great but it turned me into a gibbering looney along the way.

Yes I know, nobody even noticed the difference!Martin
will book myself into a looney house asap then..thanks for the prior warning!

Now I have covered the top wing with 'ribs' do I need to slap a covering of liquid glue on to secure everything before I start sanding??
-
Decided to go down the sprue route. I have followed the existing moulded detail as it looks to be quite accurate.

Does anyone have a copy of the Gloster Gauntlet profile and drawings from Scale aviation modeller international magazine from a few years ago?
It would be great to get hold of a photocopy of this artical.
