I have some questions unanswered. -The differences between the Allison and Merlin Powered airframes: The only major ones I can see are of course the nose but also the radiator airscoop that is smaller on the Mk.I. is this correct? also.. Do the inner leading edges differ? the Frog example I am lead to read is good but the leading edges have a very similar kink to the P-51D? -Radio equipment behind the cockpit, are these different as it is an RAF model? Understanding armourment: Mustang Mk.I .2x 303 in the nose? Mustang Mk.Ia 4x 20mm cannons Mustang Mk.II ? What RAF Squadrons flew what type? Period photos, BM members models etc very welcome! Thanks!

Martin, this looks a good build, will be keeping a close eye on your Spit! looks like you have replicated the rivets on the airframe, nice...

SL633 was a Czech machine and is being restored to fly in England for a private collection in the US. It's got a reallly interesting history as it has flown for the RAF, CzAF and the Burmese AirForce.

Lurrvly build Col. the cockpit will look good all painted up. will be following your build for sure.

Really disapinting news for The UK Aviation Industry AGAIN! Yet another British Aircraft that should not go out of service, like the Canberra (which should have been flying well into 2020) it should have been upgraded to fit the US parts, or even better a brand new re-engineered Nimrod Aircraft to meet modern specifications and use new materials.

Hi Dan, I have used Tamiyas XF-4 for the interior of a F4f Corsair a while back, it really looked the part after a bit of dry brushing with browns and light greens so I would recomend a pot of this for for P-40

Thanks, Yes it does look very dark! maybe darker so on the photos but how would I lighten the place up without wrecking the joint!. I am also coming round to thinking the PRXI should have it's cockpit on show so will have to make some tiny winy parts!

A bit of shadow and detailing... With the PRXI (not as detailed as this has no moulded detail such as throttle etc..)

Another MkXIX, nice clean finnish. I like the Academy model as a comparison that cockpit and canopy certainly looks larger than the Airfix part but still a nice model. How did you move the cannon blisters on the Mk.XIVe? I have tried cutting them flush to the wing and hav already messed up the wing and my finger...

Having got myself the new Airfix Mk.IX and PR Mk.XIX I have joined the masses here and started to build... I am going for an open cockpit (the door staying closed!) so I have started to improve the cockpit -ok not 100% correct but at this small scale I hope it will look ok- Just need to make some oxygen bottles to fit behind the seat and build a floor. The colour I am using for the interior is Xtracrylix RAF Grey/Green and the extra details have been made from small off-cuts of sprue and plastic card I found in my 'box of tricks'

Just been messing around with the trumpeter rivet wheel on some old 1/72 stuff. It is very hard to see where you are actually starting and -so far- I have not found a great template having used a small metal eraser tool and some dymo tape. The rivet impression I eventually achieved look very good and in this scale really give the plastic a riveted metal sheet look. Maybe this tool can be best used after the painting has been done? as the indentations are very shallow (which is good) but of course this will meen NO ERRORS!

It should be easy to make a MkIXe, it involves moving the cannon blisters on top of the MkIXc wing around, ie stubs inboard cannon outboard and a little surgery to correct the cartridge cutes below. there are a few other small differences but have a read of this site http://www.spitfiresite.com/reference/vari...re-wings-01.htm

The codes would have been QV- then a id letter. The Mk IX would have been used before 19SQN was assigned to 2nd TAF

How are the D-Day Stripes and Yellow leading edge decals?

These 'all in one' u/c units are fine in 1/72, and you also get a solid join. A little detailed painting and TLC will sort out the final finish.

Ii suppose you could use a fine metal mesh ie/ an old teastrainer cut to fit and flatterned, Or a small piece of fabric (painted black and silver) the weave would give a grill impression.

I love that finnish! not so sure 'bout the bomb and rockets attached to the folded wing ...lol
