  1. Over on Hyperscale there is a post by a chap (Klaus Herold) who uses the following method to create a 'stressed metal skin' on an model. Linky: http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/stresse...neffectkh_1.htm I tried it today on a scrap wing (although I do not have any plastic polish but the rest of the task I followed his guide) and it looks fantastic. Anyone else tried this, with a but more practice its going to transform some of my raised panel lined aircraft!
  2. Thats an interesting site, thanks for the link. The issue I have is moulded in slime green and has decals for 1st Air Commando Group and 18 Sqn Netherland Indies Army.
  3. It would be good to hunt this artical out, thanks for the heads up Ed. Odd because I cannot find in any books or references that the fuselage was deepened in later models? (Not saying anyone is wrong btw!)
  4. Thanks for your views. The kit is clunky but fits rather well I think, and I can do some DIY detailing also. Personally I think the Mitchell looks better with the turret moved further back this is why I want to do this conversion (if indeed it is possible with this kit!, If not hey I will have to look for a scheme that suits the model as-is) As for the shape of the rear fuselage, may I ask how does it differ from each variant? I can see that the large side windows will have to be removed (prehaps glue the clear parts inplace and sand flush with a little filler) and then cut out the smaller windows as needed. I could cut out the area where it top turret is located, cut out the rear section and swap the pieces -creating an astrodome just behind the cockpit when all is re-fittend and dry.
  5. Can anyone offer any opinion on this model please? Is it easy to move the top turret back towards the rear of the fuselage to make a B-25C/D or RAF Mitchell MkII ?
  6. Am I right in saying that the Revell issue is the better build, ie. Fit
  7. cheers guys, I would have expected more? being quite a large model I may invest in one.
  8. How much would you expect to pay to buy one of these new?
  9. I would be interested in the blue and orange biplane please (a boeing?) PM sent
  10. thanks guys. I am going to go for Revell Aqua Colours: 49 Light Blue & 17 Africa Brown (I can then alter the tone of each if needed)
  11. thanks Jason, I think the humbrol paint numbers are on the airfix website (the JG27 desert scheme is the alternative choice of their 1/72 109 emil) I can cross ref. paints using these I hope.
  12. This looks a very substantial project Paul! I am still wondering if I should get one of these new B-17's? It looks great but I am still a bit sceptical about the panelling on the clear nose part, does it match that found on the 'solid' plastic fuselage? from photos I have seen it looks a bit odd? maybe (hopefully) I can be proved wrong?
  13. What Revell aquacolours or Tamiya Acyrilics would be used to paint a Bf109 in dersert camo (ie. blue undersides and sand/yellow upper?) thanks
  14. Thanks for the link Robin, but sadly no! Wing pallet is a good site though. wish I could remember it, needle in a haystack time crawling around google LoL..
  15. For months I have had a link saved in my bookmarks to a website I came across with a huge range of profiled artwork covering luftwaffe aircraft. each profile had the Staffel etc and listed the individual pilots also. I am Looking for JG27 BF 109E Trop markings (in the desert, sand and blue markings) but with somthing different on the side, ie. not Marselle, Black 8 or any of the usual finishes. Just wondered from that would anyone here know the site !?! a bit of a poor explaination I know! In particular I want to find the JG27 aircraft that carried <- -, <I, <-, <I0, <II Stab markings (the Group technical officer looks good I think <I0 ) and if available the names of the men who flew with these codes. (note- I am not to hot of how Luft markings worked , I am learning parts as research.)
  16. I have reached a stage on my 1/72 Revell Curtiss Hawk75 where I don't know what to do with the detailing on the plastic. I decided early on that I did not want to rescribe the model (just incase I scrub it and wreck the thing!) so I am left with raised panel lines and rivets everywhere which I know are going to stand out like a sore thumb once painted in RAF camo (RAF Mohawk MkI or MkIII ?? whatever ones where at Duxford durring the war) Whats best for an RAF Camo to look good?
  17. p-26luvr, I can recomend the book by mushroom models publications on the hawker Fury and Nimrod. It has a huge chapeter on the Nimrod with plans and lots of detail photos from the Duxford based ones
  18. First look at the actual kit and it is very good. Raised details which I am not a fan off but I can lightly sand them down to near flat and when painted they should look good. As for the wings, personally I feel they are too heavy and am working on ways to replacing the detail here. Prehaps with very thin slivers of decal for each rib (I may use this idea for the stringers inside the fuselage also?) followed by a few coats of primer. I picked up a little hint for cutting dead straight lines of decal buy fixing two new blades together with a spacer inbetween to give even width, I have not tried this yet so this is a good oportunity to do so.
  19. thats awesome! I love the detail you have created inside and that metalwork on the cowl looks stunning
  20. Come on get that Demon sorted did you leave the wing fabric sag detail or sand it down at all?
  21. cheers guys for the info looking forward to taking a look and starting it now. Gengriz I am liking the Osprey very much. Looks like a lot of detail will be done in the cockpit, maybe I will make a Lobsterback gun turret for it, were these used in service?
  22. A splash of red and it's starting to come along. I have put the main decals on all apart from the FF- codes and the top wing star and bar which fell foul of me moving the decal afer applying micro sol and destroying it. Actually it does not look to bad withoout markings on the wing.) The canop is resting in place for now as the forward frames need painting.
  23. I have (well its on its way via snail mail) an Airfix 1/72 Hawker Demon. Yes I thought what a good looking aircraft (after my love for the Fury) but is the model any good? photos of finnished articals would be cool and comments? (thanks to Acky190 BTW)
  24. Nice clean finish on the Mustang, The darkened gun covers look good.
