  1. good knowledge, thanks. I am going to use the Revell one to create a 1990's USAF European camo (green/grey) F-4E now to choose a Fighter Squadron and locate some decals as I want to plaster the entire aircraft with small white stencils..... (the Fujimi one will be shelved)
  2. Not to sway from the original post here but... Why exactly can't the Lightning fly in the UK? It does seem odd. 'historic' aircraft here in the UK are prehaps maintained to a higher standard than most aircraft flying in the world today!
  3. Thanks Giorgio N I now have the new mould 1/72 Revell F-4F and it does look great. Odd but the mouldings are in two grades of plastic? some silver and some light grey with loads of flash! well it was cheap..
  4. The newer 1/72 Revell F-4F, this could be 'back dated' to an American F-4E prehaps? How about the RF-4F too and RF-4C?
  5. wez PM sent all things F-4 Paul J no worries I have re-considered my (obviously ludicrous) idea of converting a perfectly good Spey Phantom... "i hearby appologise to all Brits who worship the Phantom and its Speys..."
  6. Thanks to Paul J on here I have purchased the 1/72 Fujimi Phantom with A&AEE markings. Looking at building a USAF 1980's type machine I am left wondering what type of American F-4 model this is nearest to? reading various sources state the F-4J which looks to have been used buy the USN and Marines. So the question is really, with a bit of TLC and the removal of the British Spey engines to be replaced by US engines?? what USAF versions could I make? I am particually interested in making a 'European Lizard scheme' 1980's Phantom as these are the types I remember seeing at RAF Weathersfield in the 80's, was there a Squadron based there?
  7. Thanks everyone for your input and thoughs. I will have to settle with a green one (albeit very worn ) Will still look into back dating to an earlier 'late' A6M5 version with single long barrelled wing guns and fuselage mounted MG's may be after some decals being a firstJapanesebuild will have to have a look around. Also as the wings are already glued together (one previous owner- who has left gluey fingerprints all over it) It does look to have very strange incidence when faced from the front.
  8. Basically looking for a 'later' type Zero that I can paint (accuratly) in IJN grey. Not to hot on Zero history -found a good book on the subject today so i can have a read over the weekend- so later war I really mean zzeros that look lke or 'are' the same version as kitted by Academy (It maybe a case of back dating the kit a little?) cheers for the info.
  9. I have picked up a 1/72 Academy A6M5 Zero and am hoping to make a late war Navy machine in IJN grey. Did the Imperial Navy have late war Zeros on thier carriers? What is the kit like? It is very detailed (might sand the bomb racks off though as I want a fighter)
  10. Thanks jimmass, just to clarify the verntral window situation a lttle more please, exactly what bit is not on the -3? Great photos there but none of three tone F2A's which is a pity they really are very hard to find.
  11. Would anyone know what USN or US Marine squadrons had F2A painted up in 'late war' 3 tone schemes like below? I am currently upgrading the Matchbox Buffalo (a lot!) and fancy this scheme as I have only seen it used on later aircraft such as Hellcats and Corsairs etc..
  12. Good use of etch! Really the F-82 is one of the coolest aircraft ever built...
  13. The best thing to come out of Denmark since sliced...err bacon? nice looking Spitfire.
  14. This scheme looks interesting? I am sure I have seen Mosquitos in these colours What would the shade of grey be on the top side prehaps I can finish one of my Mosquitos in this scheme? (sorry to change subject..)
  15. That looks very good! It's good to see Airfix models taking centre stage as built projects!
  16. Would the 1/72 Airwaves cockpit etch set fit the Frog Fairey Firefly Mk.1? Anyone tried?
  17. I think it would need a different style exhaust (a longer pipe extending back along the side of the fuselage) and a canopy with more bracing over it.
  18. I bet thats hard to come by!! I may stick to making a Mk.III in post war dark sea grey and sky, yet this conversion topic in a magazine sounds interesting!
  19. Anyone go any ideas to aid a conversion of a FROG Fairey Barracuda Mk.II to a late post war TRmk.V ? Any conversion kits available? Aeroclub maybe? if not hen it looks like I will have to do a bit of DIY
  20. I think your rivet detail looks good, prehaps as a critique and future experiments (I may try this with decals now you have!! haha!) colour the rivets in a shade just a little darker, or lighter than the colour they are placed upon? ie green on green, grey on grey, sky on sky, prehaps this would scale the look of the rivets down a little? Nothing t take away such a good looking Corsair though!! Any close up pics?
  21. The model comes with a few small parts which are not shown to be used in the 'in box' versions. The fuel tank is one I am interested in using, for what operations would it have been installed for, ofcourse I guess long distance but would I be correct installing it for a SEAC version?
