  1. What RAF Squadrons used the DH Vampire F.3? Are there any colour plates available of the markings used, I have the wing pallet website bookmarked and it is a good resource but i am wondering if there are any other reference material available. thanks
  2. Good looking Se5a What did you do to get rid of the mould marks discs on the wings?
  3. Prehaps add a little white to add some 'scale effect' to the colour? Alos, give it a satin finish. IAC Spits were also painted silver post WW2 also.
  4. By chance, would anyone know anything about the use of a Beech Expeditor C.2 stationed at Far Hal, Malta in or around the early 1950's ? There is an graphic of on Wingpalette: http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/t/591/9/0 I am very interested in its use and maybe if there are any photos that may be published on the net or in books? cheers
  5. cheers for the replies, pity as I was hoping for somthing as good as thier Il2
  6. Considering gettng an SMER 1/72 Fairey Firefly FR1, is it good or not (raised or engraved lines, fit etc), whos moulding is it?
  7. Superfine again here! and i second the motion that getting the correct mixture is vital, I have had a number of sculptures ruined because they did not set..even after weeks of curing them ! The regular stuff is great also and should not be forgotten about
  8. its all about trying to sand off the hatched effect without loosing detail
  9. Looking forward to following your build Doug, I have the Inpact Bristol Bulldog to start. Has the Flycatcher got a number of mould marks over the 'fabric' wing? and are the 'fabric' parts covered in a moulded fabricesque pattern, the Bulldog has a very fine detailing all over it which I am considering smothing down to get a good consitant paint finish.
  10. Try covering the ribs with decal paper, painting the airframe as usual and then using a knife and any other sharp instruments to create battle damage. When you are happy with the damage then 'weather' up the damaged areas with lighter and darker hues to create bent metal and ripped saggy fabric!
  11. Fantastic F111 Otis How did you get such a good scribed finish?
  12. I have been following your build 'the way th way though also and the final model looks great. Very insipring.
  13. checkout the mustangmustags forum: http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/thehangar/ loads of great stuff concerning everything P-51 !!
  14. Having never built a ship model, wanting more to build the aircraft that fly from them I am considering the Academy USS Carl Vinson as it is modern. is the kit anygood? easy build, looks good etc? what about the aircraft onboard can they be detailed to look good or are they lumps of ' vague Hornet shaped' plastic? cheers
  15. Still no scheme info or plans but I have now reached the conclusion that it is a Do.17 Z-7 I wish to build the only one I have found is all black which seems a bit dull but if thats the colour then.. I am a bit of a loss without any clear plan views of this aircraft (all that seems available are the Z2 and Z3 bomber/Recce versions.) Because of thi, I am guessing that the first NF Dorniers did not have extra machine guns in the back as protection like the bombers?
  16. Some good info there. Most references seem to focus on the later Do218 nightfighters which looks like it was purpose built as a heavy fighter (albiet a very ugly one in my opinion!) Interesting that a Junkers 88 nose cover was used, prehaps I can lookout for one of these? Looks like some nightfighters had a change of engine also, I think I have a pair of engines left from an Italeri Bf110 G4 which may be hand after a bit of research first me thinks.
  17. Following my search for the interior set for the Do17Z I am interested to know if a Nightfighting Do17Z-7 or Do17Z-10 can be converted from the 1/72 Monogram kit? my guess it can but it would be other views would be interesting please. I will need a nightfighter scheme? I have looked on wing pallette.com and found a small selection of references http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/b/325/2/6 A black underside and splinter camo topside would look good if they were painted in this way? Liking the look of the Z-7 version at the moment with the solid gun nose? how would I be able to make a mould of the kits 'glass' nose without ruining the plastic?
  18. thanks tomCZ! just found this on the Hannants website now obviously did not see it the first time..
  19. Thanks all, I have purchased one from a vendor at a show. looks pretty much as I remember it and has the small moulding flaws mentioned but I am sure a bit of filler and tlc will work on in. thanks all.
  20. I have dug out a Monogram 1/72 Do17Z and want to sprue the model up by first using some etch and then 'beautifying' it some more. Hannants sell a 1/72 set for the Do217, would parts of this set be ok for an earlier Dornier bomber? or is there a specific etch set made for the Monogram (or later releases) model? -wanting to decorate the interior and sprue up any poor parts of the kit-
  21. Had a good look around on google for reviws of the Academy Flogger and it looks quite a good model. I made one when I was about 7y.o and at the time loved it but I am thinking of making a 'better', I hope go at it? any pointers, or indeed anyone who might have one kicking around unloved?
  22. good recovery It would be great to see one of the airworthy P-51D's in the UK in RAF camo.
