  1. Saw the Italeri 1/72 Blue Angles F-18 in Model Zone this morning (did not buy it) Is it any good? ie.against the Academy F-18's which I think are great (personal opinion)
  2. Would such methods work on a die cast (corgi) aircraft also? I am wanting to remove the markings from a silver P-51D and leave the overall silver paint.
  3. Great looking Skyraider! Just ad a bit (actually a lot) of exhaust staining and that will finish it off perfectly. ps: make a paper mask for the stain flows on the side and even if you have the basic revell airbrush (like me) then a decent finnish can be achieved, could even add some dry brushing of different shades or a bit of chalk when dry?
  4. http://acimg.auctivacommerce.com/imgdata/0/2/8/6/1/6/webimg/5573536.jpg Just purchased the above (box picture above) What is the kit like? raised or engraved, newer mould or not? any hints would be interesting thanks.
  5. Looking for answers concerning the F-100D as flown by the USAF Thunderbirds. 1/ Would the jets have been covered in stencils much like the 'service' jets? ''no step'' etc... (Service jets look to be festooned with them) 2/ Would the Thunderbirds have had drop tanks (or ferry tanks) fitted ever? if so what type? hope answers can be found, cheers.
  6. The Monogram Dornier 17z is very good and a great base for detailing and scratch building (if you like that sort of thing like me) Also you can get an etch set for the interior from hannants (and probably other places?,,)
  7. Try the italeri spares dept, I have used them in the past and were very helpful (sorry i have not got the telephone number i used but it was in the uk- i think i found it on here actually) If they have the canopy and cockpit parts available if my experience is to go by they will get them in the post to you within the week!
  8. I want to use a Hasegawa UH-60A Black Hawk kit (with ready panted windows!) to create the latest Black Hawk chosen by the Brasilian Air Force (UH-60L) knowing absolutly nothing about the Black Hawk I am hoping someone on here may be able to provide some references or detail towards what may be needed to be altered. cheers.
  9. Don't forget to drop the flaps and large u/c doors if you are making a gear down Mustang (the hydraulics bleed off when the motors are shut down and the aircraft is at rest) I am making the Academy P-51B (with the malcolm hood, sorry mate) so I will be watching your 'Stang with interest.
  10. One of my fave' kits ever! even though its old its moulding is nice. good looking build of a good looking aircraft.
  11. These photos are good thanks bil. I particually like the final one as it clearly shows the blunt gun nose and correct pointy shape of the props. (those gunes are lined vertically?) Having now found a good reference plan on http://www.the-blueprints.com I a bit happer about starting the conversion now. Thinking of using filler on the glass nose provided to create the gun nose as I have nothing in my spares box that is similar or could be used and shaped accordingly.
  12. The Wirraway was probably built as an unarmed trainer also? this might explain the part A7 in the kit, or the company were going to expand on the range at a later date! I did not know the Wirraway and Havard I were so closely related either (but then they do look so similar) this is why I have buthered my academy T6
  13. If anyone can give any help in making some P-51B engine mounts? I have scratch built a 1/72 Packard Merlin from the leftover parts from the Revell 1/72 Lancaster and I now want to fit it to an Academy P-51B. Do 1/72 Plans of the mounts exist? or even 1/48 plans that I could photocopy down to a smaller scale prehaps?
  14. I can see a slight kink in the trailing edge, thats going to be a hard one to correct in this scale!? as for the canopy, It looks to prehaps be a case of seperating the extreme rear of the clear canopy and prehaps sanding a bit from the base, it would not be as 100% accurate as the falcon option but I would not be wasting the other canopys in the set as I have no use for these.
  15. Academy T-6G and some pictures of an Early RAF Harvard Mk.1 (ok I have used the Wirraway line drawing but that is all I have) I see there are a lot of alterations needed: *New rudder and wing tips *Shorter fuselage/ steeper nose before the cowl? if this correct and would chopping off a little from the nose be ok? *Fabric fuselage sides (stringers) *Venturi on the sides of the fuselage for instrumentation *Did the Early RAF Harvard have the extended exhaust over the top of the wing to provide heat for the cockpit? *Strengtheners on the tail? *Different Canopy- I was thinking of adapting the Academy issued parts with extra strengtheners but not sure how to tackle the different extreme rear section. * Cockpit alterations- RAF style instrument panel and spade grips. The interior colour RAF interior green or US equivalent? RAF bucket seats and belts? Hope this provides some food for discussion? I have read posts on BM concerning differences.
  16. Much like the Skua and Gladiator I suspect looking at these drawings?
  17. A few questions about the Blackburn Shark that I am hoping others here may know or provide help with.. What schemes would the Sharks that were sent out to Malaya and the East be? Would I be correct in guessing camoflaged such as the Vickers Vilderbeasts (green/blue over a lighter blue) or even with black undersides? Would the cowls have been removed during use to keep the engines that bit cooler in the tropical heat? and would they have fillters? Would there have been any MK.II with 3 bladed props? (just found this http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234915076 so a good start!)
  18. I think a biplane such as this needs the finer detail to look right and your pushrods certainly look to scale! good job so far.
  19. thanks Bill. prehaps a source for the tanks but i have started to fasion some wingtips from some hurricane tail pieces which works well actually. I have some tanks from a heller tempest and also some from the old airfix hunter both I could chop up to create DH underwing tanks I feel.
  20. Anyone have a scanned copy of De Havilland Vampire (Warpaint Series No. 27) they may be able to email across please?
  21. Great looking wood finish on the propellor, is it hand painted?
  22. Thanks Wez and Vampiredave I have found them on the Hannants website. cheers guys! just need to fashion some droptanks and rounded wingends from the scraps box.
