I have Revell Plasto which drys nice and hard, I have used masking tape each side of the 'trenches' and then applied the putty directly to the model spread out to cover using a finger or an implement with a flat surface. Let the stuff settle and dry a little -a few minutes- then wipe off with white spirit.

    Actually I have never done the final part using white spirit so before you take my advise (if you even want to) please can someone here state if white spirit is the stuff to use? A: on bare plastic B: on primered plastic using acyrlic car bidy spray from HOLTS or CARPLAN

    I have used acetone infused nail polish remover with Revell Plasto and it makes a right old mess and leaves no panel lines filled!*^%£**

  2. I'll never be any kind of expert but the only kind of T7 I've seen with an F8 tail is the Martin Baker ejector test aircraft. They are oddballs though.

    That looks really good Chris, I am quite impressed with the matchbox kit as a basis to add detail to, from some peoples writeups I have found I thought it might be..well a load of rubbish. I like the glossy finish, so much a part of 1950's post war revival for colourful fighters!

    T Mark 7 The next version of the Meteor was designed in response to the obvious need for a trainer variant, especially given the significant overseas orders now being received. There was no official requirement and the prototype, G-AIDC (later G-AKPK), flew on 19 March 1948, nearly four years after the single seat fighter entered service. There was immediate official interest and specification T.1/47 was issued to cover the type. The trainer was based on the Mark IV but with the fuselage extended by 30 inches to accommodate the second seat. An extra fuel tank was fitted replacing ballast and there was also provision for underwing tanks. The canopy was heavily framed. The longer nose conferred added directional stability which was to have an impact on the design of later variants.

    Later production models were fitted with the Derwent 8 and the square-cut tail unit of the F Mark 8.

  4. that does look stunning!! I am wondering if I should find a gypsy III cowl from an airfix tigermoth and creat a Moth Major? I wonder if the RAF ever flew them before the DH82a was used?

    The Moth I have is totally finished and glued together so it will need paint stripping, I hope the glued areas (very old) will stand ok, I may add a little more glue on wing struts etc to keep the plane ridgid, I do not want to have to re-construct it as the correct diheral is set already and the wings line up!

  5. Thanks Wez. I have found a post on ARC forums covering a few clavework profiles covering various RAF squadrons and this has the tiger stripe 74sqn T.7 in camo. Going to do somthing that is not usually modelled one but still colourful like 19sqn. Now looking for lists of east anglian squadrons that had meteors and may have had trainers like you suggested (as hacks or instrument trainers etc) period photos are what I need!

Was thinking of going colourful but I am wanting more to go silver undersides and grey/green upper with more of an emphasis on a particular squadron (east anglian airbase) not sure what sqn or base yet or colourful squadron markings. Who knows of any colour side views of the T.7 apart from www.wing pallet or a google search which brings up mostly pics of the current flying example (which is very nice)

  7. Painting a 1/72 F-105F I have kept the very detailed yet raised panels. I am hoping that the final paint scheme of silver/alum overall with certain panels highlighted in various metal shades and then the bodywork rubbed with an old piece of denim might expose the raised detailing just enough to create a good effect? Worth a try but has anyone done anything similar or how would you tackle the raised panel vs silver jet issue (without scribing)

  8. Thanks those. Links are useful. Anyone know of any photos of Fulcrums with these 'earlier' type markings? A google search brings up photos of a brightly coloured demonstration type scheme but no Migs in camo or in a more modern overall Grey (which is my prefered finish-the newer the photo the better ie. Year 2000+)

  9. However to work on a Lockheed product, especially the avionics, it quite a different story! There is the Boeing design philosophy, which is "How can we help out the poor schmuck that is going to have to work on this thing later on?", and the Lockheed design philosophy of "How can we screw over the poor dumb SOB that is going to have to work on this thing later on!"
