I think this is the remnants of a fuselage side blister gun.

Thanks AW. Fixing (hiding) screw ups has become my specialty It's always three steps forward two steps back with me. I spend more time fixing boo boos than building. I had to strip and repaint a black f4u-5 eight times due to paint and decal problems. It's amazing I don't quit the hobby. Thanks for the kind words Ron

After more screw up and repairs I finally got it properly flat coated for weathering. Canopy is not permanently fixed. It's just there so the paint matces. Thanks for looking

Fw190 in Memory of Jerry Crandall
Mycapt65 replied to Ian's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Absolutely beautiful. You did Jerry proud. Why did you block the swastikas on the model but not the profile. I understand the necessity to block it in some areas but I don't understand the inconsistency. The model would look nicer (IMO) with swastikas. Great job. -
Very nice Warthog! I think your colors look perfect. Matches the photos and planes I've seen. They were built while I was a kids 3 miles from my house. A coworker friend was a field service engineer for them when Fairchild existed. I thought you said you didn't put the 36081 on the wings? I see a dark gray on the wings. Isn't that it?

First thank you for the kind words. Yes it had the tropical filter it will be painted separately and added with the rest of the detail parts. I deliberately left it off because it complicated getting a clean demarcation line behind it on the engine cowling. Have a great day and thanks again for the compliments. Ron

Gloss coated and decaled today. And yes I know it's very unlikely there was a billboard on the starboard side of the rudder. But I don't care. I like it.

Well after dropping the plane on the floor, crazy gluing my fingers to the paint and a few other self inflicted screw ups, I'm back on track after only one strip and repaint.

I'm surprised there's not enough. Usually there's a bunch. I almost thought you were being sarcastic until I saw your avatar I have plenty more Luftwaffe builds done and more to do. Thanks for the compliment Be well Ron

Kinetic 1/48 F/A-18A Agressor. A well used aircraft
Mycapt65 replied to HartDeco's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Blows my mind! That scheme is awesome! I have no idea how you married the decals with the disruptive scheme. Is there a WIP thread here that shows how you did it? -
Here's a kit I finished last year. I know it's old and some may have seen it elsewhere but I'm new here and need a confidence boost to get me through my latest string of modeling screw ups. I'm not sure if it's ok to post stale builds. If it's not I apologize and pull the thread. This is the ProModeler release of the Dragon's D-11. I added a Tamiya blown canopy, a Parts R Parts engine plug and stainless barrels, blast tubes and pitot. The decals are from Eagle Editions. I reprofiled the spinner and blended the supercharger intake. The build was surprisingly easier than expected. The paint is Mr.Color, my new favorite. Some are their RLM specific colors some are my own variations. These planes weren't in service long so I didn't go nuts on the weathering. I overdid the exhaust but I had to hide an earlier pattern mistake. I hope you like it anyway. Be well all Ron

Acrylics don't usually make great washes. They can do odd things like pool the pigments away from solvent painted details. The pigments also tend to be corse and get grainy looking when thinned a lot. I gave up on future and acrylic clears. I now use Gunze GX 100 and thin it 4:1 or more with Mr.Color Leveling Thinner. That's 4 parts of thinner to 1 part of the clear. The stuff is bullet proof when cured. You can use enamel or oil washes and any kind of decal solution you want without fear of a reaction. Likewise gx114 is the flat version and is absolutely amazing.. Spray both at 15-16 psi and don't go too wet over decals I've heard that some decals will react with it. Personally I've never had that problem with either clear. Good luck Ron

Never. I still secretly fly mine around and make airplane noises when I get the basic airframe complete. That exact model stops being a toy as soon as the painting begins. That's ok. I'll just fly the next build when I get to pre-paint.

My progress is so slow its like watching a plant grow. In my defense I'm waiting on canopy masks to arrive so I can finish paint the topside before adding the wings. Thanks for looking Cheers Ron
-
Think I got the demarcation right. I thought a straight tight feathered line how hard can it be? Tape was too tight and masking putties were a little too unruly. In the end I used the AK masking putty and post-it roll. I'm happy with it

If it's the Vietnam era Camouflaged F105G the underside should be light gray not silver. I believe that the gear and bays were white. I believe there were some Fs produced in overall silver. I don't recall seeing any Gs in anything but standard SEA colors
-
A little more progress. Cockpit is good enough for a closed canopy. I'm really happy with the colors. I wanted to keep it a simple out of the box build but I had to put seat belts in it. Other then that it'll be OOB. Thanks for looking Cheers

I thought that thing hanging down off the starboard fuselage under the cockpit was the pave penny pod that wasn't used on A-10Cs?- 181 replies

Yes I understand that there's little contrast between the two greens. Still some paint brands have yet too little contrast. It's especially aggravated with too soft a demarcation. I'm just recommending to test first before going all in. Also keep in mind scale effect. This is another prickly subject that I adhere to. Ymmv. Enjoy your build. Do it how you like it. This is supposed to be fun Ron

I've tried doing a few planes in USAF SEA schemes and what I found out is more important than getting the right colors, is getting the right contrast. The tan and light gray is easy. Now the greens are tricky. All too often when using the "correct" colors there's too little contrast between them and all you see is a green and tan airplane. I recommend that you do plenty of side by side test shots of the different greens using your prescribed demarcation style. Good luck

Oh BTW, no German specific colors were harmed (used) in the build. So far. We'll have to see how the rest looks.

Here's my Hasegawa bf109f-4 trop. It'll be one of Marseilles yellow 14s. I know it's played out but I needed something easy and interesting to get me reinvigorated. Thanks for looking Regards Ron

What's a gentleman's scale? -
Great thank you so much. I wasn't aware that the right quarter glass was eliminated on most Fs. Would 8693 be similar incase I model that a/c? Are there any photos of 10137 that show enough of it to conform a scheme? I have the decals for that plane. Thank you Ron
-
I know Marseille's aircraft are old hat but I want to build one anyway. I like the mid demarcation 78/79 scheme so I'm considering building either Wrknr 8693 with the red primer rudder or 10137. Are the first two pictures Wrknr 10137? There's clearly three colors and two soft demarcation lines on the engine cowling. RLM 79/78/04? The demarcation on the lowest color is soft and an unusual location for a yellow cowling. Thoughts on that? Also is the right side quarter glass painted over or replaced with metal? Looks possibly vented? Thanks in advance Ron
