  1. I posted some updated pictures with some chipping done. I believe that you've seen them. I'm a less is more person too. This minute I'm attaching a the canopy and lamenting slow white glue set times. I was hoping to finish this yesterday but a few ocd issues and beers delayed that. Luckily I haven't cocked it up yet. Btw I almost used that in a recent post because I say that all the time. I laughed when you said it.
  2. Thanks Phil I have someone here in the states that already put dibbs on them. Let's see what happens there first. Have a great day Ron
  3. I was unaware of the newer release as armor isn't my thing. I'm glad they updated and corrected it. Enjoy the build and thanks for the bringing back fond memories of a building the earlier kit. I still may build one of the newer ones yet. Do you know if they make a 48 scale Stuart?
  4. The Stuart is the consummate pacific theater armor subject. I built that kit way back in the early 80s. It was a good kit then I'm sure it's still good now.
  5. Thanks everyone one. I'm known for throwing too much mud on my builds. This has been great help. I'll keep more to mild concrete dust than mud. Thanks all. You're a great bunch of guys. Kind regards Ron
  6. Thanks all for the kind words. Good call @Farmerboy I used vinyl masks for the insignias. I made homemade masks for the nose colors. I'm so happy with it the closer I get to finishing it the more I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Can anyone relate? Ron
  7. I'm building this 357th P-51 and not sure if they operated on cement or grass runways in June, July 1944. It'll change how I weather the undercarriage. Any helpful information will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Ron
  8. Nicer than... No make that much nicer than anything I've ever done with spray cans. You'll do very well with an airbrush once you get a little time with it. IMO it's better to under weather than over weather. Work on that gradually and eventually develop your techniques and set your own standards. Nice job Stick with it
  9. More progress today. I did some chipping and put guns in the holes. Regards
  10. Update. I've been busy messing up small parts and trying to locate replacements. This is where I'm at today
  11. Beautiful. I like it when someone is brave enough to make a whiffer.
  12. Amazing work. I love the diorama. It does my heart good to see someone else is willing to exercise a little artistic license to build it how they like it. Sometimes it's more rewarding building to your likes. I often build spurious markings to appease my desires and lessen pressure from the accuracy police. Great job. Especially on the water effects. That's hard to do. Ron
  13. Looks great from what I can tell from your composite photo. I don't do Facebook. I wish you would post more pictures here. Can you compare this kit to the Trimaster Ta-152H? Thanks
  14. I loved that maniac. RIP Jerry
  15. Thanks for the compliments. I don't want it filthy, just used. I'll need to gloss coat the green for decals and a mild wash. And seal the whole thing with a flat coat without killing too much of the fuselage's silver sheen. Because the fuselage code letters and nose art overlap the natural metal I'm not sure how to flat coat them without killing the silver.
  16. I started this 1:48 Tamiya build as "Berlin Express". Unfortunately I cut the anti-glare demarcation slightly low and artwork would have been noticeably misaligned. It was easier to lower the demarcation than raise it so I'm building either "Geranimo" or "U've Had It!". Both planes have similar markings to my original choice. I'm waiting for U've Had It!" decals to arrive from Bob in Canada. THANKS BOB! Here it is to date. The only decal is the port wing because I couldn't figure out how to make the vinyl mask fit over the aileron actuator fairing. Suggestion on how to weather a half camo half NM aircraft would be welcome. Thanks for looking Ron
  17. I'm looking to do either a Farmgate or VNAF T-28B. I'm considering the Roden T-28D kit because it includes the weapons, pylons and gun pods. The T-28Ds had three weapons pylons plus a streamlined gun pod on each wing. The B/Cs had had a larger underwing pod and only two weapons pylons on each wing. I believe the pylons were the same as the later D but the spacing looks different. The Roden T-28D kit has the all the right parts for B/C but the drill outs in the lower wing are for the D models. Does anyone have a photo or reference that clearly shows the weapon pylon spacing on the early Vietnam B/Cs? Thanks in advance Ron
  18. Anyone have a tip or a link to a tutorial on how to paint the checkered noses on the 357th FG Mustangs. I Googled and YouTubed it and I can't find anything. Thanks Ron
  19. Not much done today. I started painting the spinner hoping the darkness of the red would hide the shape issue. I did finish the flaps today though.
  20. More progress today. I painted the low vis insignias using AML vinyl masks. It was my first time using vinyl masks and found it difficult. Not sure if it was me or the product. I've decided the kit spinner is terrible as is. I'll either have to fix it or replace it. I'm not done with the flaps. I have yet to paint the ends. Be well Ron
  21. Fuselage stripes today I have a few little touch ups to do before I can paint the insignias. Stay well Ron
  22. Thanks. I'm not much into details. I pride myself on a good finish with no seams and proper geometry. My builds are meant to be solid two to three footers. At one model contests I heard one person describe one of my builds as, "ehh, it's just a good paint job" because I didn't open the carburetor intakes and detail the oil coolers on an monogram A-26. I've had other similar comments but half the people making them might have had buckles on their rudder pedal straps but there painted surfaces were so coarse that you could use them as sandpaper. Or every flight surface and or gear was out of align. Thanks for looking
