Thai Airways Bombardier Challenger 604
Daniel Jones replied to Daniel Jones's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks, I haven't got much experience using the filler, but it worked out well. -
I have made Revell's Bombardier Challenger 604 in the Thai Airways livery. This model was very quick and easy to build, having only a small number of parts. The build went well, and so did the painting. I had problems with the decals though: The old decals supplied with the kit had degraded, and were splitting apart, so I bought some old Thai Airways livery ones from a company in the Netherlands. These decals went on very well and the model was almost complete, and just needed gloss varnishing. However while not working on the model, the box was too close to my radiator which deformed the nose of the aircraft and shrunk the plastic. To fix this I used Humbrol's model filler and then I sanded the nose back into shape as best I could. After painting, the nose looks pretty good, and once gloss varnished the model was complete. I'm very pleased with this model, especially the repair I was able to do. Thanks, Daniel.

Airbus Company A321 NEO
Daniel Jones replied to Daniel Jones's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks, I do really like how the MAX looks with its split winglets and chevron engines. -
I have built Revell's Airbus A321 NEO in Airbus Company livery. This is a model I have wanted to do as it goes very well alongside my Boeing Company liveried B737 MAX 8. This model includes both the CFM Leap engines and the Pratt and Whitney Geared Turbofans. For my A321, I chose to use the CFM ones. They were easy to make and fitted together very well. The rest of the model went together well, and fits nicely, except for a few places like the glass for the cockpit and the end of the nose. However this was the first Revell model I have built in a while, having most recently built Zvezda's B757-200 and their B737 MAX 8, and it seemed like Revell's quality wasn't as good as some of their previous ones like their B747-8 or their new B767. I used Revell's Aqua Color paints for my model and I finished up with 3 coats of their Clear Gloss to protect the decals and give the model a lovely shine. The decals did't go on as well as I had hoped. The tail decal got multiple wrinkles in it which I couldn't get rid of, which takes away from the look, though luckily the worst ones were underneath the fuselage so are less noticeable. I also had a few decals start to split apart and, not adhere well to the model. Overall I am very happy with how this model has turned out, and its nice to have it alongside my B737 MAX, and its interesting to see the differences between them. Thanks, Daniel.

Thank You, I just need the Classic 737 to complete the lineup. I was thinking of doing a -400 in US Airways Livery. -

I'm thinking of extending the fuselage on a MAX 8 to convert it to a MAX 10 -

Yes I was exactly the same until I saw it with my 777 and my earlier 737 model, though it was interesting to see just how much smaller the PW 4000 is compared to the GE90 -

Thank you. 😂😂 Only my winglets this time. -
I have built Zvezda's Boeing 737 MAX in the Boeing Company livery. This model has turned out really well and I'm very pleased with the results but it was very fiddly to make and I had several problems along the way. This model also goes very well with my Airbus Company Liveried A321 NEO. Its a nice pair to have, the MAX and the NEO. Initially it started out well, after using Tamiya Primer and my usual Revell paints I was able to cover up the grey plastic on the fuselage so I could start the assembly. The build went together well, except for a few problems. The Split Scimitar winglets had only a tiny piece to slot into the end of the wing so it was very difficult to attach it onto the wing. They then both snapped off, so had to be re-glued. The engines are very detailed and were easy to put together, especially being grey already, it was easy to paint the inner parts. Once I had mostly assembled the model, it was ready for decals. The Zvezda decals are very good, much better than any aftermarket ones I've tried. They went on well and it was easy to line up the blue stripe. I then only had to glue on the landing gear and horizontal stabilizers onto the aircraft and then give it a few coats of varnish, however the winglet split into 2 pieces again, so I had to fix then yet again. Using Revell's UV setting glue made this much easier than previously. I then finished up by doing 3 coats of Revell's clear gloss varnish, which just finished off this model and gave it a lovely shine. Overall I am very pleased with how this model turned out and dispute the problems I faced while building it this is definitely one of my favorite models I have built to date. This B737 has almost completed my collection of all models of the Boeing 737, I just need to make a Classic 737, as now I have an Original, Next Generation and now the MAX. But I have decided that I much prefer Revell's models, as they have more logical and detailed instructions, white plastic which just makes it easier to paint the fuselage, and they are more detailed, but this doesn't mean I won't make Zvezda models again, the are just more difficult to make. I have multiple ones coming up, a B757-300, a B787-9 and another B737 MAX 8. Thanks, Daniel. This 737 model really shows the size of the GE90 on my B777-300, when compared to the smaller Boeing, both 1/144 scale. My almost completed 737 collection. My Jet Airways Next Generation, and my British Airways Original

I was really looking forward to their Lufthansa 787-9 that was going to be a Revell Zvezda model, but unfortunately its obviously been canceled. Its just annoying that Zvezda uses grey plastic rather than white for their commercial aircraft as it is just so difficult to paint over even with primer.

I'm very much hoping that they will be including the GE CF6's in this new model, like they did on the BA Chelsea Rose 767 which had the new RB211s and the old CF6 / PW400s.

I had to re-glue the split winglets back onto my Zvezda 737 MAX 8. I was having real trouble getting them to stick back on using regular Revell Contacta Professional glue as there is only a tiny piece of plastic which slots into the wing. So I came across this Revell UV setting glue to help with re-attaching the winglets and it works really well. It takes about 10-15 seconds to cure the glue rather than the 5 it says but it its a really useful thing to now have for my future modelling. I'm uploading this as it would have been really helpful to me previously, so I just thought I would upload it to try and help others. Hope this is useful, Daniel.

Zvezda B737-8 Max Icelandair new colours 1/144
Daniel Jones replied to JK_Models's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
I'm making the same kit in the same Magenta livery. The decals didn't go on well at all, so I've decided to paint the tail, and then add the white decal on top. You mentioned Vallejo paints, was it the Fluorescent Magenta 70735 you initially used?- 27 replies
