  1. I bought some... I could have bought plenty more!
  2. Just before Christmas I found a shop with about 10 Matchbox model kit boxes in the window. Didn't buy an of them at the time because I hadn't yet bought any Christmas presents, but now's time to find out if they're still there...and if so, let's do another Matchbox GB! 😄 (Or should I keep and treasure them? 🤔) Also saw kits from many other brands. Some of the makes I've never heard of: AMT ARII Atlantis Emhar Esci Fujimi Lindberg (The Lindberg Line) MisterCraft Novo NU-BEE Pegasus Pit Road Trumpeter VV Jia Sheng Other makes I've barely heard of (I'm a recent returner to the hobby after decades away from it): Academy Hales HobbyBoss Hornby (in that I didn't know they made kits) Humbrol (in that I didn't know they made kits) Italeri (also as "Italaerei") And some makes that I am aware of: Airfix (some with an Airfix logo I don't recognise, but seems to be from 1963/1967) Heller Hasegawa Matchbox Revell Tamiya
  3. Finished! As predicted by @ModelingEdmontonian it's not a great kit. It doesn't join together very well, and I had a lot of trouble with the decals (two had identical numbers!), but I still enjoyed the build. More so than the inaccurate Mustang (*shudder*) Thanks for watching!
  4. From Those decals were so stressful. They're barely adhering to the surfaces. If only I had my micro bottles here. If I had a little more time (we're now prepping for tomorrow's journey home) I'd paint over the exposed glue around the port side air intake, and on the gaps around the very poorly fitting canopy. I can't claim my camouflage painting skills are particularly good (and some of the darker top colour seemed to come off when applying the big decals), but still, I'm pretty pleased with the results bearing in mind how little equipment I had. J
  5. Camouflage pretty much done: Remaining tasks for today (going home tomorrow 😭): a few paint touch ups, apply the decals, attach the gears and a few other sundry items.
  6. Not just me getting that one sided gap between the wings and the underside of the fuselage then!
  7. This afternoon's and evening's work: Decals to the underside and spinner: Lighter camouflage colour to the topside: And decals to the fuel tank: Doing a 7 mile coastal hike tomorrow, but hopefully I'll have the energy to finish the painting tomorrow* (topside camouflage mainly) and then the last construction and the remaining decals. * later today!
  8. Just a side note to say that I've not worked much with acrylic paints before, but I'm very impressed with them over enamel paints. Easy to thin out with a drop or two of water, then it goes on easily (even without primer) with little or no evidence of brush stroke marks, AND it dries really quickly so easy to quickly build up coats. Hopefully this will continue when I start the challenge of the camouflage on the top side of the plane...
  9. It's been a busy late morning and afternoon. Some construction: Prior to which I'd tried picking out some of the cockpit details with some (inappropriate colour) silver paint: Wings cemented and some on-the-sprue painting: Needs must! ...this was just after attaching the tail wings and rudder, the idea here was to prevent gravity from sagging the tail wings. "Heilbronn, we've had a problem...": Where's the hole for the tail wheel?! I managed to resolve this with some blade gouging, but, there was nothing in the instruction about having to prep it. There's a bit of a gap on one side of the fuselage to the wings join (due to the work required to reduce flashing? I don't remember any there...) Anyway, I tried to fill in the gap with paint (no filler here, I'm on holiday, remember?), with not much success. Gears stuck together, and underside painted: And that brings us up to date.
  10. Let's first review the flashing (Revell do like a bit of flash!) On the rear of the canopy: Around the seat: The top of the port side of the fuselage: And this lump at the bottom of the same piece under the wing join (WTF is going in here? It's like a separate piece!): Aside from the flashing, anyone else hate this dot-matrix style of painting instructions (I don't mean my scribbled writing!)?
  11. Well, after the disappointment of the Revell P-51D Mustang shocker, I had to try another. Reviews of this kit seem positive...so fingers crossed! (A quid cheaper too)
  12. Okay, build process finished, methinks... Just doing the decorative markings and other paint jobs.
  13. "You could drive bl**dy tank through there!" (It's just for a bit of fun) (It's just for a bit of fun) (It's just for a bit of fun) (It's just for a bit of fun) (It's just for a bit of fun)
  14. A quick note on the paint & thinners. First I tried thinning one of the colours (the NATO Olive) with some of the Revell "Color Mix". It went...horrid. Kind of gunky. It separated and became unusable. I've also tried a few drops of water instead (with the silver paint), and that looked okay, but wouldn't stick to the wings (yes, I did wash them down first) so have had to revert to just the paint as it comes out of the pot. The green paint thinned with water was...okay, but that was only on the small area of the cockpit floor. I have been unable to ascertain what sort of paint it is.
  15. 'twas a gamble on my part (plus I like the Mustang). They had quite a good selection in the toy shop I was in, but I figured a kit with paints and a brush was a better bet that some of the other models they had without, because I think I would have gone overboard and bought ALL the paints listed in the instructions! They had quite a range of subjects (cars, trucks, ships) and manufacturers too, e.g. Tamiya, but also at least manufacturer that I'd never heard of. I'll make notes when I go back later this week.
  16. Anyway, I've bashed on, and look! painting has happened:
  17. First impression, is not good. I know (quite recently) that Revell have something of a poor reputation, but man this effort is a poor effort. I wish I'd taken a photo of the ACRES of flashing around the fuselage, but this photo of the flashing around the canopy gives a good impression: (It's got wings!) This isn't flashing, but, well, I don't really know what's going on here but I'm pretty sure that the spinner should NOT look like this: Just bizarre. So there we are, initial impressions are low!
  18. On holiday in North Yorkshire. NONE of my tools or paints etc. with me. Bought a Revell P51D Mustang model that comes with the brush, three paints, and cement. Had to get a craft knife, and also bought a pot of thinners. Let's see what I can do with so little!
  19. Hello LTNP I built this model today (no paint as all that good stuff is in storage - long DIY decorating story!) just as something to do that didn't involve a screen. One bad thing I noticed was that the pair of decals that go on the rudder overlapped the plastic by a considerable amount. Anyone else had this issue? JJ
  20. I'm not looking quite as much as you think I am! 😄 That compressor was on offer for free by a neighbour (we have a WhatsApp group for the road - 187 members!) but someone got to it before me.
