Regarding the picture showing practice loading of the JP233's, they were not BAE personnel but RAF personnel of XV and 17Sqn's plus attached armourers.
The picture was taken at Muharraq in December 1990, before the concrete blast walls were erected between each of the bays in the Dutch barns. The overalls were locally purchased items that were used instead of the RAF green overalls. They were lighter and a lot cooler than the issue overalls.
When the conflict started we were all ordered to don the green issue overalls again.
Also, regarding the attack phase when using JP233, the first wave of aircraft would fly down either side of the airfield targeting the AAA sites with 1000lb bombs, then the JP233 aircraft would come in and target the hard standings in front of the HAS's and taxiways. They didn't attack the main runways as they were of a thinner construction than the other areas and would have been easily repaired whereas, the hard standings and taxiways were of a more solid construction.

Aye,cuz that looks like A.B who was attached to 17F from the Gun Bay driving the Wendy,the colored chap's A.Y from the WTC at Bruggen.

Question...Where the heck do you chop the old nose off because it's not shown in the instructions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it just forward of the front bulkhead?
-
AL looks like it is a GR1a without the side scanners.
XIII regularly ran with 2x 2250 underwing and 2x1800 under fuselage tanks. Was good for long sorties which meant lots of coffee and uckers...
I stand corrected,didn't think Fruitbats had any GR1A's.........Learn something every day.

JP233 was evidently, at one point in the late 1970's/early 1980's, a joint UK/US project with the US dropping out fairly early on. After some thrashing about in an old box of junk, I found some aged decals that were put out by the firm of Honeywell, who would have been the US manufacturer of JP233. That particular division of Honeywell was later spun off into it's own concern - known today as ATK. Also found some rather early iterations (circa 1991) of the Brimstone logo;
It was a joint US/British project for a weapon not only for the RAF,but also used by the USAF F-111,but the US pulled out when it got too expensive.

Does anyone know what schemes are available on this kit?
Check the link posted in the first post & you'll see what scheme the is.....

Dont know where you got this, but this way of clearing JP didn't work very well in EOD trials as the blast and fragmentation radius of the mine was greater than the range of the hoses, putting the crews at serious risk.
The Iraquis lost a helicopter (Gazelle I believe?) doing a mines recce after a JP 233 raid, he flew over the minefield at about 100ft and one of the mines was set off and the mine shot it down.

I believe that was the old RSP for the Russian Green Parrot anti personnel minelet,The helicopter must've overflown the HB-876 mine & set off the thermal slug that takes out armoured vehicles...Lucky shot really (or unlucky for the chopper & crew)

Thanks,
Am thinking of just going with this conversion set;

IIRC as a safety precaution Tornado was not in peacetime allowed to land with live JP 233 still fitted, so you would probably never see a live JP 233 in a peacetime squadron flying photo. You may find a practice weapon image but these were few and far between. Drill stores are usually for ground training and not for flight.
As stated you may have seen a trials aircraft with live but I don't believe this happened very often as I understood the HB 876 mines in the system were an EOD nightmare on a range.

To a man,most of us hated loading the JP with a passion,sods law the loader would break on you so you'd have to manhandle the barsteward to get it lined up,And as for fitting the rear hinge pin release gear,with full NBC on...forget it! (Fit's into that square box on the top & then the other end fits to the rear of the shoulder pylon..

I have never really understood this, without looking at the parts how can we decide what needs an uplift and what doesn't? I may be wrong but I get the impression that some modelers automatically replace certain kit items regardless of how accurate they are. Am I getting the wrong idea here? The mention of Paragon above suggests that wheels, seats, and burner cans will be replaced? I would imagine in the case of the forthcoming Revell Tornado that there will be no requirement for the flaps/slats and the fin correction is only Italeri specific, the kit seats also look very comprehensive to me but until I have physically had the plastic in my hands I will not know. This may sound a little sour or like a rant but I sometimes get the impression that with certain kits there is almost a list of certain AM options that should be bought. Or is it the case that these days without even looking at a kit one of the first jobs after the initial purchase is to shop for AM, do we have to include a certain percentage of resin/PE/WM before we will even entertain the idea of starting a kit. I can understand completely anything that will add significantly to a kit and save time/effort on jobs that we would all rather avoid, but are we becoming lazy? Automatically purchasing a resin/WM replacement seat when 25 minutes work could produce equally satisfactory results! Please read this how it was intended, as an observation rather than venting or ranting!
I replace the seats as more times than not,they are just shaped that look like a bang seat.If the cockpit is half decent then I'll leave as is,but as I found out when I replaced the pit in an F-16,that was a waste of money as most of the file detail couldn't be seen,but in the case of the Tornad where the pit is more visible,then some after market bits can accent the existing detail.

The nice chap in Wonderland Models had a look on their system when I was in this morning, in stock in 8 days apparently!
It's been put back that many times,I'll believe it when I see it,I've pre-ordered one from Wonderland & last date for it being available was today,now they websites showing what Muzz said..
-
Thanks,
I think I'll go with removing the seat,adding details or bunging a couple growbags in the pit...It's a 'get my modeling mojo' back project...(One of three on the go cuz I can;t seem to get fully mojo'd...)

He's the the Lynx guru, flies them, models them, I'm sure there is nothing he doesn't know... he may have used the parts from his Accurate Miniatures kit for his conversion.
Only downside is he's a Ginger.....

MACE Fairings on the shoulder pylons (see photo) & new airial at the back of the jet underneath,

Here's a really useful paint matching site;
You can even upload a photo & the site will match the paints for you.
-
The factory only has a certain number of molding machines,in order to make new/reissue kits they will have to stop production of other kits,they'll also have a warehouse full of kits & kit parts for small orders that may come in or to add it to a later catalog.
-
I'm working on the old Revell/Monogram Phantom F4-C at the moment,the cockpit tub has the seat pan's moulded it & tbh,the seat backs look quite cr@p!...
So I've been looking on the web for an aftermarket one,can I find a set?..Can I buggery!!
All for the Hasagawa one....
Any help appreciated.
This is the one I have;

Question....I'm thinking of getting the Dave Parkins set for my build,so the questions are;
A-Worth the money seeing as I wont use bits of it
B-is it any good & accurate representation on a GR3 Leaping Heap?
-
Isn't AL in that second picture a GR.1a?? It's got an IRLS fitted
No,it's an optical illusion as the bump is the aux air inlet.& navigation light,the wat they line up & the angle of the jet make it look like the is one fitted.
-
They didn't have anything that I was looking for, so I bought my new kit from the works.
I am also going to be looking online for my kits online from now on due to better selections.
Rick
What I do is google the kit before I buy,you generally can find lots of build reviews so you can judge for yourself if it;s worth buying.
-
I built this kit,ohhh must be in the mid 80's....God I'm old!!!
Very basic & on par with the cheaper Airfix offering IIRC..
-
I prefer the Martin Baker site myself,more accurate information.........
