  1. My two have just arrived, great service seeing as they were only sent yesterday...

Anyhow, looking at the instructions closely,it's a complicated kit, maybe a tad over complicated. They have included pivot links so you can not only move the wings, but also the wing pylons too.Something that is a waste of time seeing as you need to trim the wing glove box covers down to swing the wings.

The instructions although precise, are in my opinion, too cluttered per page,I wouldv'e liked them a bit larger & spread over a couple more pages (especially for us blind as a bat older farts!)

Parts are well laid out with little flash & unobtrusive sink marks on the back of the parts,And they've also included the APU exhaust as well...Decals are well printed & in register.

All the parts are there for an RAF/RSAF mount apart from the glass for the LRMTS & the shoulder pylon MACE fairings, you'll need to cut off the sway braces on all the pylons if you want to do one of those machines.

Ejection seats look like they may be a good representation built straight out of the box

Now I've done a quick comparison with the Flightpath update set & it does look like it will be comparable with this kit,I'll be doing a more thorough check as I progress with the build.

All in all, well worth waiting for & it'll be a fun build....

  2. If/when the F-35 enters UK service, will it still be referred to as "F-35" or will "Lightning" be the common term of reference?

It'll be given a designation such as "BAe-Lockheed Lightning FGR-1" or something along those lines

  3. Didn't the original reworked Airfix Bucc S.2 (# 3055) released late 1989 also contain a choice of radar and TV Martels and Sea Eagle (by way of differing nose caps), or was it Martels only ?

Yes,as I've got some in the stash box from that kit.

  4. Not good news for us if it is,but I've always maintained it's a white elephant & we'd have been better off buying an existing platform & upgrading that.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/10838453/RAFs-70-million-F-35-fighter-may-be-cancelled-because-of-poor-performance.html

Britain's long-delayed £70 million stealth fighter may have to be cancelled because of its poor performance, according to analysisarrow-10x10.png by a senior US Air Force officer.

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter being built for British and US forces is based on outdated ideas of air warfare, it is claimed. The aircraft could be unable to evade enemy radar and be too expensive for long campaigns.

The critique in the US Air Force’s own journal concludes that the new fighter may even have “substantially less performance” than some existing aircraft.

Britain is preparing to buy at least 48 of the Lockheed Martin aircraft to replace its scrapped Harrier jump jets; the US military is expected to orderarrow-10x10.png more than 2,400.

The £235 billion programme is the most expensive weapons system in history at a time when defence budgets on both sides of the Atlantic are being cut.

  5. Looking at the pictures of the sprue's in the link below, looks to be a lot of flash & sink marks as well as the cockpit looks odd,for example the pilots IP looks like a mish mash of GR1/IDS & GR4,as it's got the square TAB in the center as opposed to the old wet film MMD. & the throttle box looks wrong...

Hopefully they are pre-production shots & not indicative of the released kit.

  6. Just been speaking to the chap in Wonderland Models,he said the kits are in the Revell distribution warehouse in Germany & should be in the shops in the next few days....(I'd double ordered so canceled one of them hence why I was calling them)

They have already been released & sold out in Poland, where the Revell factory is.

  7. If you mean the 'horns' on each side of the head rest, they're not canopy breakers, they're sensors that basically feed data such as air pressure.velocity ect & tell the seat what to do & when to do it on ejection at certain heights/speeds,

If they were canopy breakers they'd be useless as the pilots head would be partly thru the canopy by the time they touched it...

  8. Shaun's video brought back a lot of memories of my time with XV Sqn at Muharraq. The whole film was shot at Muharraq and covered the first raid of the war and OC XV John Broadbent (Navigator) is seen several times during the film..

Unfortunately on the second raid John Peters/John Nichols were shot down and became POW's.

Sadly Flt Lt Steve Hicks, who is seen in some of the shots was killed on a medium bombing raid over Baghdad on St Valentines day 1991.

    XVTonker :pilot:

I have the full video & recently got it transcribed onto disc, a mate uploaded it to You Tube as I did'nt have fiber at the time so here you go,thanks to Steff for the upload...

Apologies about the quality,it was taken from a 20+ year old video cassette......
