Some photo's so far......I've used the kit decals to enhance the IP & I think it's came out OK,Fit is generally good & not much filler should be used, apart from round the mahoooosive gaps by the intakes!!!
Also some shots of the Revell BOZ pod, showing the bad rear face & some size comparason shots next to Dave' excellent works, the drops are again the kit tnks shown next to Daves Big Jugs...

Hi Allan,
The decision to release a Luftwaffe Tornado, and one which only includes a 'Special scheme', has to be a factor in the kit's lack of armament. German Tornados, apart from the ECR and Marine Flieger examples, were rarely seen carrying anything but tanks, practice bomb carriers and BOZ pods. I'm fairly confident that the RAF GR1/4 release will provide more in the way of weapons. For just over £17.00 I'm more than happy to have at last an accurate Tornado even if it may lack RAF weapons.
regards
Andrew
Which is exactly the same as with the RAF,hence why I only put weapons on any of my kits unless I'm doing a jet like seen on Telic/Herrick ect....

Spike, what a damn fine idea!

Muzz

As a former II (AC) Squadron Ricket, Im currently making a 1/72nd scale Revell Tornado GR4A in the 100 years anniversary markings but will struggle to accurately reproduce the port and starboard Infra Red camera windows on the forward fuselage. I already have the AM under fuselage IR linescanner.
Do any Forum members know how I could remedy this? i.e are there any after market decals etc?
your responses and advice would be much appreciated.
Graham
You could use some old photographic negative cut to shape & stick that on the sides with PVA glue.

American RBF flags tend to be red, or red with "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" in black or white on them.
RAF RBF flags are plasticised red/white striped the white being reflective at night.
Therefore you could see for instance a RAF Phantom with British pylon pins with striped flags and fitted with sidewinder missiles with US red flags on the safety pins/covers!
obviously if a US flag was damaged in use it was normally replaced with a British one.
Selwyn
That's if you could prize any outta the sqn stackers! lol

Looks like the only thing missing for a Stormo bird is a second "cone" antenna.....fitted on the spine and under the forward fuselage.
There is one on the sprue than has the GAF telelens pod on it .
Andy
And you'll need to fix the hash job they made of the BOZ pod.....Cannot understand how they got that wrong when they got it right in the 1/32 one...
-
The's no rule as to what tags to use with what pin, basically you get & use what you can from the local squadron stores.
They're normally plastic covered cloth when they are new but the plastic tends to get ripped off or melted over time,so you're left with a dirty cloth streamer....

All Hasegawa RAF/RN F-4's have engraved lines and I saw somewhere that they all come with White metal wheels and vinyl tyres(can someone confirm). All the
The one I've got does have white metal & rubber tyres,...And having built the Revell & Hasagawa FGR versions, they are 99% identical to each other in every way...
-
Looks like I'll be picking this one up.
Kind of a nit-pick, but the Sidewinder fins don't appear to have the double-delta shape of a 9L or 9M, but one of the earlier variants. Or am I just not seeing it that well?
No they're the wrong marks.

Oh,and the BOZ pod depicts an unladed pod but the rear face is wrong, see my post in the above thread on page#4

Are you enjoying the kit Merv?,
On the subject of Tornados, what is the official cockpit colour?
Shaun.
It's getting there slowly,I'm finding some of the fits have quite large gaps, like the fit between the main gear bay & the bottom of the intake trunking, that forms the end walls of the bays.
As for cockpit colors,it's a mish mash of grays, especially the GR4,where panels have been replaced with upgrades, the cockpit floor is green on the GR1 but black on the GR4....

Using the web feature below, the color comes back as Revell Stone Gray or Humbrol Dark Camoflage Gray

Working on the kit today,Revell have got the rear of the BOZ pod wrong.In the instructions they have you fitting the rear face on the BOZ in a recess about 5mm back from the rear face.Now this would be correct on a BOZ pod that has no flare cartridge fitted,but then you would have to modify the rear face...See pics;
Without flare cartridge fitted;

With flare cartridge fitted;

EDIT;
On closer examination, that is what they have done. They've modeled a BOZ pod without the flare cartridge fited.

Since the tanks in the kit are not 1700l (or whatever you metric measurers call them) they can actually do both.
OLIMP's 'Tornado Warrior' (rough cast, expensive, don't like the look of the Brimstones) or L'Arsenal seem to be the only options for modern fits and Airfix for the early Tonka I guess.
And no, you can't do an (early) RAF kit from this unless the Skyshadow is also hiding in there.
Weapons Wise, it looks an awful lot like what Revell released as the 'some of each, all of nothing' 32nd scale boxing. They should have realized that the RAF version blew that one out of the water for sales (where I live), even though the ROG boxing was much more expensive.
Skyshadow pods in there...

Fiddlesticks!
I'd forgotten about that Alarm fit Bill, and you are quite right, they could be destined for use in a forthcoming GR1/ GR4 Boxing for that purpose,
However, I'm still looking for an F3 soonish!
(In addition to my ravings above, the tooling of the afterburner section as a seperate assembly will allow the longer Fmk3 section to be tooled!)
Tornado F3....I
on em!..................

Spike,
Is there much work in creating the MACE fairings?
Regards
Michael
Depends on how good you are with a scalpel & bit of gash sprue....

-
So you confirm as I the GR4 and IDS (which is what the RSAF call them) are not Physically the same! which is what I stated.
Selwyn
I'm afraid I agree with Selwyn,the GR1 & GR4 are different to the IDS,
For example,you say
The whole point of the Tornado programme at the outset was to maximise commonality as far as is possible across all variants
Well if that's the case then why did we go down the MACE suspension route for the weapon pylons & not use the same as the other nations,as well as use different countermeasure system (Skyshadow) instead of using the same as the other nations,a system that has been in use for years...
-
Can i build from this box a RAF Tornado ? Decals are problem, or not ? I can't wait a few year on regular RAF release :/
As been answered BEFORE in this thread.....YES!

Wish people would read a thread before asking the same questions over & over again!

Just tried to order from Wonderland.... They want £58 in shipping to Norway....... Hell no.... :-/ (help)
That's probably right,Royal Mail prices for packages are extortionate...It cost me £18 to send a packet over to England a few weeks ago,They price the packages by size or weight now
-
What is the retail price on it?
Worth waiting for a Gr. Boxing?
I paid £22 ish inc postage from Wonderland models, basically all the bits are there for the GR apart from the decals.LRMTS & MACE fairings.

Hello Spike -
Just to clarify for anyone interested - we'll be doing a specific set for this kit + optional 2250 ltr. tanks. The set we [and you!] currently have is really only matched to the Italeri kit - which we will also keep available.
Regards to all,
David Parkins,
Flightpath
Many thanks for the reply Dave...Could you also do the MACE fairings for the shoulder pylons, as these are missing from the kit, if these are not in any RAF boxing...and maybe the TARDIS cockpit update for the GR4...
-
Also just noticed, whilst you can drop the flaps/slats,open the speed brakes & deploy the thrust reverser's,the is no option to pose the In-Flight Refueling Probe in the deployed position..
-
Ace I hope mines waiting for me at home too then!
To make the GR4 you'll need the other chin pod too would you not? And depending on your preference a pair of 'big jugs' (2250ltr tanks) plus possible a Therma pod. Hopefully an RAF boxing containing all of the above will be along soon!!
Both pods (LRMTS & FLIR) are in the kit Phil, all you'll need is to scratch build the lens glass.TERMA's only really just came in since Afghan & you can get them from the link below. (And bloody good they are too!...I got 3 of them!)
