  4. I believe they also practiced taking off from a Autobahn in Germany on Excersise Lionheart in 1984.
  5. Cant beat the stuff we got in the RAF.A two part stuff like Milliput, came in a silver foil pack about the size of a small mobile phone.Dried as hard as rock in about ten minutes. We used to make Gozomme Penguins from the stuff down the Falklands.
  6. Ooohhh.....'Ark at her......coming on all bitchy, anyone would think he owns Britmodeler or summat... What...You mean....He does!!! Anyway, You can use that PVA glue to make small windows like those on a airliner model.Instead of glueing all those windows in,when the models painted, just get a drop of the glue on a paintbrush & run it around the edge of the window.Surface tension will make the glue for, a sort of bubble which will dry clear.
  7. Just as long as you dont mention the 'F' word........ F-16.... F-15.... F-14....
  8. Welcome aboard Ian, I'd recommend you start on one of Revells 1/144 scale jets,Like the Tomcat (1.144 scale Tomcat simple because they only cost a couple of quid,no big deal is you mess it up. But one important thing that I learn't the hard way is Knives & scalpels! Always buy a brand like Exacto or another good brand. Don't buy those 'knife boxes' for a couple of quid from a 50p shop. They don't last & can be dangerous. (I had one & the screw collar broke.the knife blade slipped out & I sliced my palm of my hand) Merv
  9. Thing is he never kicked up a stink when it was the Germans who were doing the original dig,now the families want their relatives back it's a different story.
  10. Nae problems.....Bit of cutting here, sanding there, bit of superglue & a lick of paint,SORTED!!! Works OK with the real thing......
  11. Nowt wrong with 48th.Especially for us old farts with fading vision & fat, useless fingers...
  12. This makes me angry! My Dad,being a Lancaster pilot himself, would be spitting bullets & turning in his grave at this!! Me thinks 617 Sqn should do some low flying over his farm to remind him who won the war!!! German farmer demands cash for lost bodies By David Harrison, Sunday Telegraph Last Updated: 12:35am BST 12/08/2007 A German farmer is refusing to allow British families to recover the remains of crew members of a Lancaster bomber shot down during the Second World War - unless they pay him €7,500 (£5,080). The families of the crew are furious at the farmer's demands and are refusing to pay. They say that the farmer, Horst Bender, must not be allowed to make a profit from allowing them to give their dead relatives a proper burial with full military honours. One relative described his demands as "shockingly greedy and insensitive". advertisement Four British airmen and two Canadians were in the Lancaster MK1 bomber reported shot down over Germany. The bomber, marked EM-J with serial number PD216, was part of 207 squadron. It took off from Spilsby in Lincolnshire on August 25, 1944, heading for the German city of Darmstadt, but was shot down before it reached its destination. Local people recovered body parts of three of the men and buried them in an unmarked grave. When Allied troops arrived in the area they moved the remains to a military cemetery - two in individual, named graves and one in a collective grave. But the rest of the remains and the aircraft were hidden under farmland in Geinsheim, near Darmstadt, until they were discovered by German historians in 2003. The farmer gave permission for an excavation in 2005 but then suddenly demanded money. At first he wanted €5,000, but recently he put up the price to €7,500. The Lancaster was piloted by Flt Lt Maurice Harding, with Sgt Leslie Gower as co-pilot. The other British crew were Flt Sgt Thomas Jones, Pilot Officer Maurice Savage and Sgt Hugh Hamilton. The Candian crew were Pilot Officer Stephen Sims and Flt Sgt Edward Kisilowsky. The co-pilot's son, Terence Gower, 65, who lives in London, said that he wanted nothing more than to give a proper burial to the father he last saw when he was two-years-old. Mr Gower said: "It is my dearest wish and on the day it happens you can bet I will be will be standing in that field. I am waiting for the 'yes'." The pilot's daughter, April Copeland, a management consultant, said she had always been unsure of her father's fate. "After the war my mother got a ring back from my father, and we were told that his body was probably one of the three that were recovered, but we never knew for sure," she said. "I visited the grave site but I never liked to ask too closely who was in there."........... Telegraph story
  13. Hello & welcome Darkflyer, Gary,Hang on there...Did you say a few issues.... Apart from what Gary mentioned..... Bad points! Canopy too short therfore windscreen too long.... Undercarraige too spindly & fragile..... Cockpit very (and I mean very) basic... Seats very basic.... No depth to undercarraige bays (about 1 mm deep).... Airbrakes too large.... The fit of the top & bottom fusalage halves is atrocious! Mine was that bad the intakes wont fit right & I'd have to shave that much off the bit's it'd be paper thin! Good points! Good decal sheet... ALARM missiles & kit for the SEAD F3. In a nutshell,if you like a challenge,go for the Airfix one but personally I'd get a Italeria GR1 & a Airfix F3 & kitbash, using the Aifix one to make a fusalage plug & extend the nose. The rear cockpit for the F3 is totally different that the GR1-4 so you'd need a aftermarket kit. Regards, Merv
  14. I think you'll find it's a strenghtening strut.Whenever a weapon is fitted the weight of the weapon causes some 'drooping' of the pylon. When the weapon is released the sudden relief of the weight can cause the pylon to spiring upwards in reaction. They had this problem when the Harrier 2 was developed. The Harrier's composite wings were flexing so much when they dropped bombs they were cracking &,I have heard, that the bombs were actually colliding when dropped.
  15. Exactly the same as all the other marks. If it was'nt for the lack of Mauser cannon & the new chin pod,you would'nt be able to tell a GR1/A from a GR4/A. One thing to note now is the GR4 uses the middle ERU on the shoulder plylons (belly pylons) whereas on the GR1,These center ERU's were used for Special Weapons or Drop Tanks on Granby. A normal GR1 load would be 8x 1000Lb bombs on 4 twin store carriers or a JP233. That was what we mostly practiced loading at Bruggen. (Apart from the monthly special weapon Q load) Merv
  16. You can build a RAF Tornado from basically all the Revell kits but you'll need some extras like BOZ107 & the ECM pod (I forget the name of it!!arrgghh! ) and you would need to modify the weapon pylons & cockpit displays. (look in my reference section for Tornado'S) Other than that, the after market stuff is good. Merv
  17. MMmmmm......... Group build anyone????? USAF Tornado's F3's..... USN Buccs...... USAF Lightning's...... Isreali Tornado GR4's......(That I like the sound of!!!! ) Royal Navy A-6 Intruders..... RAF F-15E Strike Eagles... Dont need the F-16,Done in Idependence Day!!
  18. Believe it or not,Jeff, they are all sold! Some people live there permanently (done some jobs there when working for Sky) and even the old Married Quarters across the main road is now mostly sold off.Although it's a right sh*t pit of a estate!!Looks like one of the worst kept council estates you could think of,The old NAAFI shop's closed & a lot of the old buildings around the Q's are derilict. Some of the larger buildings on the old camp are now like a Industrial Estate. I'll grab som foto's next time I'm down Ballykinlar way. Merv
  19. Makes you wonder tho 'What if' the USN did'nt go with the Intruder & got the Bucc instead??
  20. Even back in the mid 80's,Matchbox was the only kit's the Malcome Club at Bruggen stocked!
  21. Altogether now!!!.... A,i'm an Armourer...
  22. LOL! I remember they were well made them toys, Was'nt Dinky a subsidury of Matchbox? Merv PS,Your Da must've got the wallpaper from the same shop as mine!
