  1. The Italeri one is the best at the moment,Here is my GR1 Op Granby one nearing completion.I was'nt worried about the canopy or cockpit too much as the canopy is covered with a tarpaulin which we used to keep the 'office' coolish & the intakes were bagged up with tin foil covers. Some minor touch up's & re-decalling of the drops was needed. Merv
  2. 100Sqn was indeed a target tug flying Canberras,I remember them coming up to Kinloss in the 80's & we stocked the starter carts in the dump. (I have a photo somwhere I took at a Kinloss open day) Rory Underwood, the England Rugby Union player flew on 100 before & after they re equipped with Hawks. Merv
  3. I like the cut of your jib,sir....Only drawback is once you have removed the foil you have to drink the contents...
  4. I done my CFST (Composite Flight Serv Training on Gnats & JP's at RAF Cosford back in 84/85 before they got Jags.I have some photo's knocking around somewhere.Point of interest,on the ejection seat between the headbox & backrest the was a lever. This was used for the arming of the seat instead of the pins fitted on all other seats. If the lever was poining forward, the seat was safe,to the side & it was armed. Merv
  5. I used the tin foil from the top of a jar of Gold Blend coffee as it's thicker than normal tin foil.I folded it in half, cut to shape & glued to the top & bottom of the fusalage,The creases I done with a steel ruler After the fusalage halves were joined,I kept the shape with a finger shoved up the jet pipe openings & painted them after the main camoflage was done. Nice job btw!
  6. Hi Jeff, been off work sick with Heart problems & stress at work. Thanks to those barstewards BT cutting off my phone & bband because they owe ME £180 I have no interweb at home! Anyway,Off on hols tonight so I'll cya all crimbo time. Merry crimbo, Merv
  7. The is a fuse adaptor plate fitted to each bomb for the nose fuse unit.It sort of distrorts the nose profile, making it elongated. The Italeria bombs have this badle moulded on to it.The main fuse unit is in the tail but the is also a nose fuse. world bombs
  8. The 1000Lb bomb used by the RAF is the same no matter what kit is shoved on it.
  9. As far as I remember the 2 seater were a trainer only & were rarelly,if ever on detatchemnts as there were so few of them.
  10. Yup,I have seen it in person,It was also common to paint the Harrier GR3's & even some Tornado's GR1's in this scheme for dets to places where the polar bear roam...

    GR4

Bear in mind tho, only certain squadrons have the wing pylons wired for ALARM.
  12. 17f Sqn in anniversary markings.....Oh-er!!
  13. I started a thread with 90% of all my Tornado photo's here; http://www.britmodeler.com/forums/index.ph...ic=138&st=0 The are some photo's I cant put up the due to PerSec reasons. Merv
  14. Agree with Derek here, I only ever remember GR crews wearing Green & Fighter pukes wearing White but on Granby a lot of GR's crews went to the white bone domes for the heat reflective reason.I remember Phantom crews tho did often carry the sqn crest on the sides & even a lot of yellow lids were worn.
  15. Mmmm...Which one??? We're on Telic 3207.5 by now me thinks!
  16. Right that's it! Cue a BAe/Rockwell GR1( in 17 Sqn colours with the, yup, black spine!! (Save me having to decide what septic version to build!)
  17. So,I have a 1/32 scale 31Sqn Tornado on the shelf,Quite old & getting a bit grubby, years of dust build up,the canopy misted slightly where the Johnsons Kleer coat had gone iffy over the whole model.Quite by accident while cleaning up a greae stain with some cheap kitchen de-greaser spray,I dripped some on the canopy. After wiping it off I had a smear where the Kleer had came off.Cue me spraying the model with this stuff & it came up a treat!! Dipped the canopy in it & in a matter of minutes, clear as a bell! I'll let you know the name of the stuff later. Merv

    RAF 2008

Think you've got the dates a bit muddled,I was on my A-EOD course at Wittering in 1989 & the Harrier GR5 was in service then. The was still GR3's on the ramp but more GR5's. Merv
  19. Normally the stencills are already made up & sprayed on,sometimes they are just masked over like what we do on canopies & the tape peeled off later .The warning triangles are just stick on.Look in the sticky for more photo's. Merv
  20. It maybe that the airframe has exceeded the max G load on it & is therfore useless, the airframe could be out of flying hours, they are ex-leased aircraft (Italian)or the cost of repair is too high
  21. Weapon pylons are also different. The is a curved fairing (From front on ot looks like a busty womans top,er half seen from above!) which hides the screws for the crutching pads (or Sway Braces) not used on non Brit or Saudi jets. Also on operational jets the BOZ can only be fitted to the Starboard pylon & likewise the Skyshadow the Port as these are to only staions wired for the particular store. If doing a Op Granby/pre GR4 jet,the center ERU on each shoulder plylon (the ones on the belly) was only used for drop tanks or Nuclear Weapons as it was a HDERU. Centerline pylon's were only fitted from Op Granby onwards. With regards to ALARM, not all jets are wired for carrieing on wing plyons, initially it was 9 & 31Sqn's at Bruggen. The is also a small black box fitted to the head rest of the seats during Granby. This was the control box for the NVG's & was added then. Merv (ex-Tornado Armourer)
