  1. I know,we had some given to the Sqn as freebees. As for the Red Tail, various colours were trialled & it was done in responce to a mid air collision between a Bruggen Tornado & a Luftwaffe Alph Jet in Jan 1988. I had just arrived at Bruggen that month & was on the party that was sent to the crash site & make the site safe & recovery. The Tornado came down in a narrow strip field between two rows of houses. They rekon the pilot was alive long enough to steer the jet away.
  2. They come over my gaff all the time!
  3. The 17f Sqn decals so I can model the jet in my avatar! 9Note the wings are wrong on the sig, they are white top & zig-zagged) Merv
  4. The muzzel is actually metalic grey &,after firing, the carbon build up turns it green!! (I spent time in the SUU Gun bay while down the Falklands when we still had Tooms!)
  5. Glen sent me a pair of 1/72 ACES II from Nomega, Check here.. Nomega seats Merv
  6. Maybe Liebour sold the Saudi's a job lot of paint.....
  7. Not before 1991! Mind you,we did'nt fly operational sorties before then anyway!!!
  8. No probs Graham, Just a thing on Ceeblees, the underside is light aircraft grey & the 'grabs' that hold the bomblets on are a sort of copper/silver colour (anadised0 I have some pics in my refernece thread)
  9. Graham,The drop tanks are a mix'n'match so it does'nt matter what drops you put on.Before Granby the GR1 fleet only ised the smalle tanks, certainly at Bruggen as I never seen any Hindenburger drops on the Sqns. Anyway, you often now see F3's with the smaller tanks as the are only so many of each typ to go around.Dont forget that before Granby, the furthest a RAFG Tornado went on a day to day basis was the UK & in wartime it would have been SovBloc.
  10. Gawd,I remember back in...must be mid 80's,I built a 1/32nd Tornado IDS,Revell,I believe & it was C R A P! To make matters worse as it was around the same time as the Tornado came into service with the RAF the was'nt much information & 'tinternet did'nt exist so building it was very much in the dark. Dont remember the F2 tho. Oh,I still have the old cockpit in a spares box somewhere...!!!
  11. No.It's all aircraft, fixed wing & rotary.I believe it was in a issue of the RAF news a while back
  12. It's not just Tornado's they're doing it with,it's all aircraft so that all aircraft can be rotated thru Sqns after servicing ect. but as to Graham's question, the jet has probably been re-issued to 31 Sqn but not yet gone into the paintshop to have 61spare's markings removed or Visa Versa.I have came across this before while at Bruggen.
  13. I read somewhere that the RAF recently changed the way aircraft were 'issued' to various squadrons so that now a A/C does'nt belong to a particular Sqn for it's service life but can be 're-issued' as per operational needs.Apparently it means that the tail code can now be different as well.
  14. I actually have it on video which was taped of the discovery channel a few years back as well as in a old book about the RAF from the late 70's/early 80's.I'll try & upload them.
  15. I take it you're doing practice bombs then? Then this might help you. Merv
  16. Because RAFG Jags were effectivly close air support, you would more likely find 2 & Matra SNEB rocket pods fitted.Phimat & AN/ALQ-101'S werent routinely carried before the Gulf war as we did'nt have many!
  17. Thanks for that bus,But considering I am a ex-Tornado GR1 plumber,I'm biased towards them.Anyway,F3's are for girls!Mud movers are where the *** comes into it! (Edited as I was very, very pished last night!)
  18. I might have some six one spare decals knocking around.Look at the sticky I have in the resources section, you'll find lots of useful photo's there. Oh,& watch the main undercarraige legs, they can be....tricky.
  19. Cheers Lads, Graham,I was toying with a Fruitbat jet but as I spent most of my time on 17 & 31 (31 when on a roving load team) you can guess where my loyalties lie.....
  20. Hi lads, Making a 1/48 Italeria GR1 into a GR4 & have the flightpath update set sorted, now all I need are decals for a 31Sqn anniversary bird 7 the dropped flaps & slats. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers, Merv
  21. Weapon pylons are different too.RAF Jets (GR1/A) were all Nuclear capable whereas all the other nations did'nt have that facility.
  22. As a Armourer & if they bought the gat back bunged up,*Slab on!!!. Merv *Slab on!- Slab of beer usually the going rate for a 'fine' for being a ****!
  23. Here is a photo of a Op Granby Lynx being hot refueled. It's from 654Sqn AAC,Taken March 1st 1991 in Kuwait.(And how do I know that you ask....I know the door gunner!) More to follow when I've got them uloaded.
