  1. I got these 5 kits for free at a sale and given the pretty poor condition I would probably have not spent even a €1 on them. The PE frets that Mirage used to sell are nowhere to be found but I decided to try and do my best with them, So in addition to the kits I bought barrels and periscopes from Aber, albeit in 1/350 scale but the difference is a couple of mm on the tallest scopes so it should work, I managed to find a set of Tom's Hardware PE for the type VII's and I raided that set also for parts for the type IX's. The railings on the type IX's I made from Abers ship railing in 1/400. I wanted to try out a more wooded look on the decks so I gave them a deck-colored base color which I then covered with grey oils and washes. In hindsight I should have made them grey from the beginning and then just drybrushed on the deck color. It was way too much time spent on this. The rigging I made from extra thin thread. The Tom's Hardware set had rigging in PE but that was just ugly looking and hard to get a good look with, so those went in the trash. Flags and pennants where mounted on aluminum foil but the decals where quite old and brittle so not all made it. Still fun to add the pennants as it adds a little "height" to the models. I'm still considering to erase a bit of the rust stains to not get such a brown look, but in normal daylight the subs look a lot more grey than in indoor light.
  2. The two type VIIs got PE rigging, but I ripped it off, it just looked horrible. Now changed to normal rigging thread. Added a grey paint on the lines as well otherwise they just "disappear" against the background
  3. Ok, never again PE rigging... Normal rigging thread was way better,
  4. Slight update to the topic here, instead of doing just one sub, I'm now doing 5! Here are all 5 now, with PE added. And here they are with a little paint on Next step is rigging. The type VII's will get PE rigging, so let's see how that goes..
  5. Finished this couple of days ago. A fun build. Tiny leds where added and I made a custom 3D printed base to hide the cables. More pictures on Scalemates: https://www.scalemates.com/profiles/mate.php?id=119896&p=albums&album=108413
  6. Hi! Now that you mention it, the bollards do look a bit off.. They will need to get changed! /Patrik
  7. Haven't seen so many if these but I got a couple of Mirage Hobby subs for free so I thought I'd give them a try. The kit is in the weird scale 1/400 so not only small but also not easy to find extra PE since the kit lacks even railing and frankly looks quite bad without it I have been looking for the PE sets Mirage had before but haven't been able to find them, so I bought a set from Tom's Hardware, which enables me to make five subs! So this is basically how it looks without guns and scopes Some PE added. Much nicer! Next step is painting. Fun little kit
  8. That's super cool! Where did you get the lighting kit?
  9. I've been eyeing the Revell 00454 NCC-1701 Enterprise (https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-00454-uss-enterprise-ncc-1701--1182724), Has anyone built this and can say if it's worth the extra dough for the lights? Is it a good kit? I saw that there is a PE set from Greenstrawberry for €32, would that make a big difference on this kit since I saw it was stated for another kit (04880)?
  10. My first sub! I added PE from Eduard and gun barrels and scopes from Aber which made a huge difference IMHO Paints from Hataka.
  11. Really beautiful! Which kit is this? I can't find anything on Academys website or Scalemates in that scale.
  12. Hi picked this up at a sale for a closed shop. Probably been in storage since early 2000's. Notoriously bad kit, but it went together in the end. Resin printed the barrels and also added resin tracks from Bracchi models. I decided to go for a three tone camo as I found a reference on Tank Encyclopedia. Italian road signs from MiniArt, since they are just cool. Realized that I didn't have pics from the back and the other side, so I will add those.
  13. One day I'll remember how Flickr and this forum works... Added now!
  14. Hi all A little dio (or is it vignette?) I made to show the Tiger tank. It's a Border Model BT-010 tank, figures from Panzerart and Alpine. The medal came with the model. Grass and tuft from Martin Welberg scenery. The Kursk text is made with a 3D printed stencil created in Fusion360.
  15. Tried to airbrush these diluted with water and that was a bit of a disaster. Very hard to lay down and dry tipping constantly. I now bought their 3rd gen thinner to see if there's any difference. Also, I sprayed some TS-80 flat on it, it just ate throughout the AK so the primer showed instead. Never seen this with Ammo, AP, Vallejo etc.
  16. Finally finished. Should get some better pics... IMG20221001164903 by Patrik Grundström, on Flickr
  17. They did not agree to be published on social media and were appropriately anonymised Thanks for the kind words!
  18. So with the lawn drying up I thought I could check how it looks. Any feedback on this? Big boy pants on...
  19. Tried some t-rex tracks (85008) for early tigers. And wow, the quality is amazing. The pins are so detailed and the tracks are amazing. No cleanup what so ever needed, just keep track of which pin to use. Would definitely recommend now that Fruil tracks are getting harder to come by
  20. Thanks! It's Hataka paints, dunkelgelb nach muster.
  21. Some WIP on a Border model tiger, BT-010. I was planning on having the two tone camo only (yellow and green) as I think it better matches the reference pics.
