  1. Yeah, I actually suspected that these holes number 83 are somewhat too large for Oerlinkons, but I didn't suspect that they were drilled for something as big as the main battery of Hunt-class destroyers 😮
  2. There roundish things numbered 83 - what are they? Oerlikon placements?
  3. As for me, the funniest part of it was a realisation that by the spring of 1942 the British carriers already had successful experience of nighttime operations, and the famous Kido Butai has never done anything like this
  4. Not sure at all. If you have an hour of free time and no idea about how to spend it, feel free to watch it, if it isn't the case, and you always have some shipbuilding ideas and no free time at all, skipping it won't affect your understanding about what really happened in the Indian Ocean in 1942 at the slightest, because, again, the topics discussed in the video are purely hypothetical.
  5. BTW, haven't you happened to already watch this video? (I'm personally not a big fan of "what would happen if" genre, but some possibilities discussed by the author sound quite intriguing - and again, it's somewhat related to the topic of R class usability during WWII).
  6. No wonder. The guys building more battleships should know how to do it in a more cost-efficient manner But their managers always want them to be even more cost-efficient A pretty common scenario at work...
  7. As of my knowledge, the main factor for starting building the ships of R class after more impressive Queen Elizabeths was cost-cutting (and - from my own engineering experience - far too many design decisions in the real world spring out from the same root). Another example of a similar reasoning in British naval history could be arming HMS Vanguard with a WWI-era main battery. One can guess that the Royal Navy at its heyday was a pretty expensive thing to maintain
  8. An even worse thing was that their speed made them unsuitable for sailing as a part of a squadron of more modern warships (but of course perfectly suitable for being a part of a merchant convoy escort). As an example of this limitation in action, one could think of the decision by Admiral Somerville to split his forces into force A and force B during the Indian Ocean raid in 1942.
  9. Yep, sure. A duel against a battle cruiser (but not so many nations - except British themselves - had them during WWII) or a German pocket battleship would give an R class battleship pretty solid chances to win. I just didn't remember by hearth what armour and what armament every of these beasts had (and didn't want to make my list of ships too long), so simply mentioned some obvious examples
  10. Yeah, I've noticed that the hulls of Revenge class look more modern than the Queen Elizabeth's ones after the first look at the drawings, but of course on a model this difference is even more noticeable. Anyway, they clearly were worse ships - in the context of WWII, only useful for keeping something like KMS Hipper, RM Zara, or IJN Mogami from trying to harass a convoy in question (and probably something even more boring - like shore bombardment routines) 🫤
  11. You probably might be interested in this video: (if you of course haven't seen it already). Your HMS Resolution isn't specifically mentioned, but she certainly was there
  12. To come close to the modeller perfection, you should probably add a ship cat, sleeping in one life raft, and a ship rat eating another 🐁
  13. The improvement of the level of the life raft detalization looks just stunning when considering each raft individually. The only remaining question is whether this difference will be anywhere close to visible on the ship as a whole 🫤
  14. Also you should certainly add somebody rowing, somebody fishing, and somebody trying (of course in vain) to make his antediluvian outboard motor start
  15. "A l'outrance!" is often not far enough. "Plus ultra" would be a right motto for a truly brave knight. And of course no Spaniard will ever accept a motto in French
