  1. I'll just use whatever markings are in the kit. I'm more about the build and painting than matching to a specific time period or image. I come from a model wargaming background so I very much subscribe to do what looks good rather than what's correct. I do have local access to XL360 via the Midlands air museum in Coventry. It's about 3 miles from where I live and have been up in the cockpit ect as they tend to let visitors do that if you get lucky on a quiet day. It's well worth a visit if you ever get a chance and they have a Blue Steel as well just kicking about under the Vulcan. As for the build I'm still waiting on paint. I thought it might come in with my Takom order but alas it didn't. So it'll probably be the new year before I get anything else done.
  2. This is why I'm tending to like the Mig Ammo paints more and more, If you can find the shade you want in a modulated series then you can go up and down in darkness without any issues. The range has 2 rml83's A-MIG-0056 That is the standard colour. Or it also has A-MIG-0925 it's still RML83 but it modulates with 4 other paints for a 5 paint modulated set. A-MIG-0924, A-MIG-0925, A-MIG-0926, A-MIG-0927, A-MIG-0928. https://www.migjimenez.com/en/acrylic-colors/341-olive-drab-modulation-set.html That 4 colour set is missing the darkest colour in the modulation, A-MIG-0924. They also sell the full modulated set of 36 paints as a set. https://www.migjimenez.com/en/acrylic-colors/2312-modulation-colors-collection-17-ml.html Mig compatibility chart. https://www.migjimenez.com/img/cms/PDF/acrylic-colors-conversion-chart.pdf
  3. Hey, I've been working on one of the new tool Vulcans for a few weeks and whilst I'm waiting for more paint to be shipped into my local store I thought I'd make a flying base for it. After building a fair bit of the model including adding the nose weight I found the blue steel missile might be a decent balance point. After a little messing about I cut a slot in the back of the missile with a file and slipped some 10x4mm stainless rod into it to see if it would work. Well it does and it's very solid. The missile alone will hold the weight of the model without any issues. The flat bar fits all the way into the front of the missile and stops on the nose. The base itself is 12mm stainless plate cut at 100mm x 175mm (ish it's an off cut from work). With the rod bend in a vice to the approximate shape then TIG welded into place. The final angle for the plane has not been set yet and the plane is sitting slightly canted again easy to fix once I'm at that stage, The plane will be completed with airbrakes extended landing gear extended in a landing pose. The white paint is Mig Ammo Titans white rattle can. It's the only paint on the model ATM as I'm waiting for more paint to be able to continue.
  4. Hey, Decided to join after browsing as a guest for a bit. Do a fair bit of kit building, Mostly tanks with an odd plane thrown in for good measure. I do some basic airbrushing, and tend to use a lot of MIG AMMO products. The main reason I wanted to join however is I've just made a base for the new tool airfix Vulcan using the blue steel missile and wanted to show that off as it might give people some different ideas for displaying that model.
