Had another thought .... (just to confuse the issue ) Maybe they had no Dark Green or Medium Sea Grey paint immediately to hand for some reason, and just whacked on a coat of any colour that they happened to have at hand, so at least those areas had 'some' kind of external camo finish. For example, maybe a coat of something like Ocean Grey, or similar, was thrown on so at least there was some kind of final paint finish?? Pure conjecture on my part I know, but who can definately say that those areas in the pics were actually left in primer? (Unless somebody know's otherwise!). Just confusing things now aren't I ....

Right oh, thanks for the input chaps. Always a bit of a bugger from black and white pics isn't it ?? Actually, what you say there Edgar would make me inclined to now paint those areas I mentioned in Grey-Green! I think I am right in saying that the 0.303" gun covers, nose cap and the area where the 57mm gun protrudes were indeed metal, in which case it would now be logical to give them a coat of Grey-Green instead of straight Grey primer. Sounds good enough to me. It also states in the Combat Colours book that the area around the port tailplane root/fuselage appears to have Red primer on it, with a bit also extending up to the fin base. Now, thinking about that logically too (I don't usually think logically .... ) I would assume it was because of some maintenance or repair in that area, in which case possibly part of the rear tailcone may of been removed to do this. If that was the case, it may make sense to also put some Red primer effect on the starboard tailplane root area aswell.

Finally grabbed me some correct Green and Grey Xtracolour from Hannants at the weekend and can now put the camo on the Mosquito. Question is, which would be the most likely primer colour used by the RAF on the Mosquito? In the SAM Combat Colours showing the aircraft that I am building, it suggests that the nose and nose underside areas were in bare Grey primer at the time of the pics shown below. At the moment this is the colour I am inclined to apply as I have no conclusive proof that it would be any other colour, i.e Grey-Green and such. Would they of used a Grey primer in a situation such as this? The nose and nose underside is definately darker than the Medium Sea Grey camo, and also appears slightly lighter than the Dark Green camo, any thoughts/suggestions?? Mike I have had another look at the pics, and to my eye it looks as if the entire access panels on the sides of the nacelles/engines are painted with the upper camo colour, because the colour appears to extend behind the leading edge of the wings.

No probs. On the link I posted above, if you click on the 'Phil Broad Collection' icon, there are lots of pics there showing the canopy framing etc.

That 18" would be approx 9.5mm in 1/48 scale.

Mike Regarding the in flight pic I sent (the upper view, looking down on the aircraft) I think that the leading edge of the wings 'could' be yellow, if you look closely.

Thinking about the 1/48 Jag, the intakes also need replacing because they are moulded with the aux. side doors open, that only happens when the engines are running. Also the internal corners are too sharp and should be rounded instead. I also think that Ed Grantham needs a bloomin' good arm twisting to print off a batch of those rather nice aux. side intake hinge decals ......

Thinking about it, I am fairly sure that the moulds for the underwing pylons are kicking around the workshop somewhere. Will have a dig around for them.

Strictly speaking it is for a T2, but it's no big deal to make it into a T4. 'jagmate' is here in the workshop today (spraying the u/c legs on his 109 at present) and he is still trying to convince me that the single-seaters look the best .... :whistling:

That should do it. May be worth double checking the fore/aft position of the rail too, maybe the length of the rail also? All kinds of variations and permutations could have an effect.

Yup, the pylons angle downwards from the main pivoting pylons. Not a GR4, but I think the pylons are the same....

Could you post a 'head-on' view of the rail/pylon?

You may also need the larger bomb aimers nose blister, give me a shout if you need one.

Masked off all of the invasion stripe areas with good old Tamiya tape, the black parts will be sprayed on last. Note the 'cut out' bit on the rear fuselage below the fin for the serial number, the number was left surrounded with the camo colours. Will break out the airbrush soon and put the Green and Grey camo pattern on. Still not 100% sure which colour to spray the nose area, in the SAM Combat Colours book it suggests a possible application of Grey primer so may just go along with that thought. Without colour photo's who can say ......

Well, funny you should mention that. I did consider those exhausts when I was preparing all of the Mosquito stuff a few weeks back, spent a while discussing those with Gary (mungo1974) when he was here in the workshop, and we flicked through several books finding pics that could of been used. Unfortunately, at the time, I had to draw the line somewhere with all the new stuff as there was an awful lot to get issued all at the same time. Will give them another look when I have a spare moment.
