The spinners are a blue also (thought to be a mix of Roundel Blue and White). There's a nice colour profile in SAM Combat Colours No.5, page 35.

You may be thinking of the underwing lights, those were silver with a reflector? I was talking about the underfuselage ones, behind the bomb bay. Irrelevant now really though, done em now.

Thanks again people . Cannot beat the overall look of the Mosquito can you? Surely one of THE best of British aircraft.... . Already done it Len, was ahead of you there. http://www.britmodeler.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=683 Canopy was alot easier to do that way than I first though, pleasantly surprised. And if you cock it up it's a simple job to slice another bit of decal and lay it on, definately recomend sealing them onto the canopy with some Klear though, makes it permanent. Will definately add a touch more weathering/staining etc when I get the chance, had to put a halt on doing too much more to it as I have a bit of catching up to do workwise, may not get the chance to finish it off for a week or two at least. Cheers again folks.

Good one, 'Dooleybird', one of my old favourites, .

Ta peeps . The fading is a wee bit heavy in places, but that can be cured with a very, very faint overspray of the Green/Grey camo colours, with some Matt Varnish over the top of that.
-
Very close to being totally finished, a few minor things to sort out . Will add a touch more weathering in a few places and also faint oil/fluid stains on the underside here and there. After the final coat of Matt Varnish was sprayed over the camo and decals, the paint finish still loked sort of 'newish', so decided to simulate a bit of fading. I took some Matt Varnish and mixed a touch of Matt White to it, then sprayed that mix randomly over the airframe, basically airbrushing a 'transparent' White here and there. Took the 'newness' of the camo down a touch. The exhaust staining could do with being a little heavier on the nacelles, and also where the exhaust flow just clips the tailplanes. Been an enjoyable build

Nice builds there Jen. Built the 1/72 Spitfire/Me 109/P-51 countless times in my youth, particularly remember the P-51 Dooleybird in blue and white plastic I think. Meteor NF 14

Nope, not me I am afraid. I have had very few of my models in magazines tell the truth. The circles on the spotty one were cut from colour decal sheets, with an Olfa compass cutter I think, the sharkmouth was painted on. The silhouetes on the Wendling one were airbrushed/brush painted, took ages if I remember correctly.

I think you could be right on that date old boy, 27th Oct sounds about right. You're thinking of George Robinson from the club, fine chap and extremely good modeller. Although he has since 'defected' to the other side, lives near Ipswich now .... . (I think he now attends Juliens club).

Nearly forgot.... ....talking of lights, has anybody got any clear/close up pics of the downward identification lights on the underside of the fuselage on the Mosquito? I thought I had some pics but cannot find them. Ta for any help.

I know the models you mean, the 1/72 ones in the individual display cases? And very good they are too, extremely well made. But no, they are not mine. Agree about the Library in the Forum, it is very good. Incidentally, our model club in Norwich will be putting on a display in the Forum in late October I think, I will find out the exact date.

That'll do it. The external cover-bit was clear, the bulbs were coloured.

I think the overall Olive Drab was Xtracolour Faded Olive Drab, with random areas sprayed with a lighter mix, the darker patches may of been Pastel Chalks, not sure. Control surfaces were a much lighter mix of the Faded Olive Drab (plenty of White added) if I remember corectly. Long time ago now! Ah, the early 90's, the stress-free 'good old days'! . Those old Monogram kits were good fun to build. Found a couple of pics of the 1/48 B-24 Assembly ships; I wish I had some pics of the B-25/P-61 diorama, probably the best dio I ever built. I may have the negatives somewhere, not sure .... they will take some finding if I have still got them. St. Faiths Assembly Ship (Norwich) And Wendling (near Dereham, close to Norwich) I actually made that particilar B-17 twice, wish I still had the one in the pics. The one I made for myself is a bit worse for wear now after all this time. In fact I wish I had alot of the stuff I made back then, have not got a clue where some of them have gone.

Erm, I think I'll leave that for now .... This could be the linky thing for the story: http://www.2ndbombgroup.org/War%20Stories.htm

Nope, left my hands years ago, that one went to Robert Taylor. Will have a rummage around and see if I have any of "A Bit O' Lace", that's going back a bit too. Not entirely sure, but I think it may of crash landed at some point? On the link below it says "salvaged" (on 25/03/45). http://www.381st.org/aircraft-roster_names.html

Ta peeps, that was built at least 12 years ago I think. The starboard wing weathering was achieved by spraying it first with SnJ (or was it Alclad?) and then masking areas with liquid latex type stuff, then sprayed with the camo colours etc. After the final coat of Matt Varnish was sprayed on, the dried laytex was peeled off to reveal the aluminium underneath. Here's another (blurry) pic of the real one from a slightly different angle.

A bit misleading putting this in the Ready For Inspection bit, from more years ago than I care to remember.... Using the 1/48 Monogram kit. The real one first.

I'll give it a miss for the moment then,

Comeing along nicely isn't it? This is going to look something when it is done. It's a funny thing, when I did the engines for the Hercules Lanc Mk.II, I never gave it a second thought about offering them up to the Halifax to see if they would fit. Maybe I should of issued them separately as optional replacements for the Halifax kit ones ....

Nope, wasn't me who spoke about the Islander I am afraid , I think my raffle prizes are some armour stuff, cannot remember what though. I will be packing my airbrush in my suitcase so I can do a bit of modelling while I am out there. I better stock up on some paint while I am there .... Sorry to hear about Mr Dedeyan, I think his name is Harry isn't it? Quite an elderly gentleman if I remember. When I lived there I think it was his daughter (?) Eileen who helped run the shop at that time, nice people.

Nicosia, I know it well. I will be staying in Paphos from Sept 19th to Aug 17th, I lived there during 2002/2003/2004 (wish I still did to be brutally honest! ). Are you a member of IPMS Cyprus? I joined while I was living there, they are based in Nicosia and are a good bunch, very talented. I still am a member and will be going to Nicosia at least once while I am there, I won some kits in the raffle at the model show in Aglantzia earlier this year but at the time didn't have the oportunity to pick them up, so hope to pick them up from Stelios or Kikis or somebody while I am there next month. While I lived there I occasionally took a trip to Nicosia to stock up on kits/paints etc from the Tamiya shop in Lidras St. (?) and also Be-Be's department store on Makariou III St. (?) which had lots of Revell stuff. Though living in Paphos, my nearest model shop was Nicks Models in Limassol who had plenty of Hasegawa stuff (once you had blown all the dust off the kit boxes! ). Orphanides supermarket in Paphos used to sell some Airfix/Heller stuff, but last time I was there they had stopped doing so. I think there is also a model shop somewhere in Larnaca, but have never been to that one. Here's a link below to the IPMS show in Nicosia earlier this year, don't know if you visited it : http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal7...ll/gal6163.shtm Looking forward to getting out there again I can tell you!

They do look awful in an all gloss finish don't they? Should be throwing on the Matt Varnish in the relatively near future though. Mike, I think the phrase you could be looking for is 'smart bottom' .... Nice pics of the Molins gun there, good stuff. I've only been to Salisbury Hall once, must be over 10 yrs ago now, must take a trip down there again some time, very interesting place.

At some point in this aircraft's life, the nose was left in a different colour to the rest of the airframe for some reason. There are two black and white pics of the real 'plane at the beginning of this thread, on the first page.
-
Oh yes, I certainly remember those days too, when the kits came in those clear poly bags with the paper header attached. Rich, I see that you are in Cyprus, where abouts are you? I will be over there next month for a holiday,

It's surprising how just a touch of shading adds to the overall effect, I'm looking forward to getting the rest of it finished. Will probably also add just a hint of colour lightening to a few random areas on the Green and Grey camo colours too, sort of slightly faded look in places.
