  1. Yes, I'd second that - first time I tried this on a Marauder, the tac totally ruined the colour on the undersides. Seemed to alter the colour completely, leaving a sort of 'watermark' effect. I'd also suggest that you go for proper blu-tac. I used a no-name white tac instead and it seemed much more adhesive, actually taking off some of the base coat when I removed it from the model.
  2. I went to this too. My first time at this show - generally good, although I was disappointed to find that the ticket didn't include admission ot the museum as well. Weather was very good considering how it had been all week - in fact, it was a little too good as my brother ended up looking a bit like a beetroot - we had taken all sort of waterproof gear but no sun cream! Anyway, here are one or two of my pics. Nowhere near as good as those above sadly. Click on the thumbnails for hi-res images.
  3. And sanded extensively using Master Casters sanding sticks, may I add - brilliant things! Thanks one and all for the comments.
  4. Emergency cheese storage locker (possibly with 'In case of emergency, break here' clear panel on the front) - that was another idea that I had but couldn't fit in!
  5. You jest, but original plans were to have both an oxygen mask and a canopy - after all, poor chap's going to be getting blown all over the place! Anyway, canopy got shelved because I just couldn't fit it in, and how on earth do you get an oxygen mask to fit a dog? Should it just cover the nose, mouth and nose, just the mouth? The gun came with some tubes that would have been perfect for the oxygen supply, so I was a bit miffed that I couldn't work out how to do it
  6. Here's a different take on the aeroplane from the Airfix Wallace & Gromit gift set. Built as part of the first anniversary group build on the Airfix Tribute Forum, where the theme was "build anything you like"! The fuselage is from the original kit, but turned backwards. Tail booms made from plastic tubing with I-beams inside to add strength, vertical tail from the kit with horizontal section added from plastic card. Rocket pods nicked from an Airfix 1/48th Viggen. Various internal details made from plastic card, sprue and clear acetate. Gromit's bone-dome was made from the gun in the original kit, with plastic card shades and seat belts made from card & Tamiya tape. Decals are mostly homemade, with roundels from an Airfix Typhoon.
  7. That's 1/72?!?!!! Just breathtaking, Phil . You know, with just a bit more effort, you could almost do this for a living...
  8. Here are my AFV/softskin builds - as I mostly build aircraft, there aren't many of them. Airfix 1/76 Bofors gun & tractor. My first attempt at weathering, and I'm not sure it worked. Revell 1/76 Chaffee. An ex-Matchbox kit, complete with the diorama plate. I had loads of these as a kid so this was built as a blast from the past. Revell 1/76 Morris truck, gun and Jeep. Another ex-Matchbox kit. The Jeep was built as part of a group build on the Airfix Tribute Forum, and is finished as an airfield 'Follow-me' dispersal vehicle.
  9. Well, she has started a Spitfire of her own since then, which is almost finished but has taken her about six months! She's quite good at the painting, but not so keen on the building. Mind you, she's 16, so I think it's good that she's even taking that much of an interest. With regards to the DayGlo paint, it's an absolute nightmare to use. Damn stuff starts drying on the brush - if you don't get an even coat on first time, you can forget about applying another one for a while, as if you try it will lift the first layer right off. It also 'chips' - that Spit now has a bald patch where it got knocked, and it came off like a sheet of plastic. I'm sure if you were careful taking it off, you could end up with a shell, like a snake shedding its skin!
  10. I can't claim to be anything like as prolific or talented as many of you guys, but for what it's worth here are a few of my completed builds. Airfix 1/72 Gloster Gladiator Airfix 1/72 F-5E Tiger II Revell 1/72 P-51B Mustang (part of a Mustang Group Build on the Airfix Tribute Forum) Monogram 1/72 P-82 Twin Mustang (part of a Mustang Group Build on the Airfix Tribute Forum) Matchbox 1/72 A4M Skyhawk As well as building out of the box, I also like to dabble with the odd imaginary colour scheme or configuration. Airfix /172 Spitfire IX. This was built for my step-daughter, who took a fancy to the Revell Day-Glo paints she saw in a local model shop. 1/72 Twin Hurricane. This was built as part of a Hurricane Group Build on the Airfix Tribute Forum, and consists of two Airfix Hurricane IIB kits joined together with scratch-built mid-sections. The markings are for 263 Squadron in late 1942, who operated Westland Whirlwinds, and the premise is what might have happened if these hadn't been available and the RAF had to seek another stop-gap solution for a heavy fighter.
  11. There is one, as there is a build in this month's Model Aircraft Monthly. Don't have it to hand at the moment so I can't remember who it was made by, but I think it was Classic Airframes? Edit: Just looked online, and I think it's actually Heritage Aviation.
  12. That's excellent! Now who's going to be the first company to produce a decal sheet for that - I'd buy it like a shot!
  13. Nice pics! My head tells me that the A-10 is ugly, but deep in my heart I think they're really very pretty in a brutish, don't-mess-with-me sort of way.
