  1. This is oh so true. The canopy was really bad. Eventually I had to go with a Rob Taurus canopy for an Academy kit.
  2. I started a new face book page just for pictures I post up on here.. The only other site I use to post pictures is PX 500
  3. Is this the Eduard 1/72nd scale Weekend Edition that you are talking about Spitfire Mk.IXc Late Version
  4. I’ve decided to use the paint that I got in the gift set; to see if it’s any use. I have done this before and it’s turned out pretty well. The instructions say that the paints are acrylic, so I would assume that they would be OK to be thinned with water. However, I generally thin with "airbrush cleaner" and a drop of "airbrush flow improver", which seems to work. As anyone else done anything like this before. I first read about it in a magazine. Airbrushing Humbrol Acrylic 29 Matt Brown
  5. Started to mask off the Yak 3 today ready for its Dark Grey colour to go on. Ive actually got some black ~ grey and think its pretty close to the colour I need; so I might go with that. I think the camera is playing silly buggers again with the fluorescent and tungsten light settings. Wow, what a few thousand kelvin make a difference. That looks more like the grey I know. Almost there, this baby as taken a little bit of wrapping; for such a small kit. All ready for the spraying to begin. Bring on the dark grey.
  6. Started to mask of the Spitfire today so i dont go wild with enthusiasm and spray the whole kit brown.
  7. Bingo, managed to get some Vallejo 71.108 Azure Blue on the kit today. Went on with the airbrush like a breeze. Suddenly feels like this coming together.
  8. Thanks. Had to go back over it a few times. Its not perfect but it was as good as I was prepared to take the build before I was going over work a couple of times and not improving it. Iam all ears. Got it. Yeap it does make sense. OK Ill see what I can do. Ive just got a a couple of kits for this month and the piggy bank will need a restock. Ive a couple of 1/32nds to have a go at and a load of 1/72nds so ill try and slot a 1/72 Razorback in there somewhere. Thanks for the hints and information. Cheers.
  9. Ill not go into to much detail about this kit other than it was a great kit to build. Absolutely loved the challenge of airbrushing all of the camouflage, up grading the canopy - though will have to admit its not the exact one for this kit - researching the aircraft and the RLM colours, plus trying out the software to make one or two of the decals, printing them and mounting them - which as lead to making more for other kits. A few mistakes but a part from that happy.
  10. Love it, great build. Got to like a P 51. Good interior detail.
  11. Sorry guys. Iam not sure what the hell this is all about. I keep putting the pictures up and then they keep disappearing leaving behind the spacer png thing. On some links Ive had to put the images up several times. It seems to happen after about 12 days or so. Other people have posted on my thread and their pictures are still there. However, after a few days mine disappear. If some one can get the bottom of this or as any suggestions I would much appreciate a resolve to this problem. At the moment I dont know why it says spacer png to you guys as the images are there; for how long I dont know. Kind regards Keith
  12. More sanding and filling on the wings and ailerons and a few coats of grey.
  13. These are results I had on a resent kit I just finished. I used some decal paper that I got off the internet and downloaded some free manipulating software. Took the image of the internet and loaded it up to a document and resized it. It printed off pretty well. Maybe some room for improvement on size and shape so a little more research into decal making, paper and sealing spray.
  14. Iam not sure about the jets, but seeing WW 2 is my era, I think these are pretty awesome. I know the feeling Lessons learnt
  15. Super work. Looks really convincing. looks even better with the base board added. Really does add a feel of realism.
  16. On with the Yak. After being relaid information by Learstang and further looking into the Yak 3, I made a few adjustments to the lines on the wings; which I was told were fake. After trying out a few combinations of paint, to get as close to the blue gray colour as possible, i decided to stripe back the paint and get on with the sanding.. Here is a bit of a before, during and after the work was done. I decided to try out a grey that I made up that I thought was pretty close to AMT-11 semimatt blue-grey used on the Soviet Yak 3 Striping back the paint and taking out those lines so as to make the wings smooth. Finished top section with the light grey colour re-airbrushed and the lines gone. Still not sure on that grey. It seems to have a funny tint. Further to looking at the aircraft in a different light, I thought the grey that Id airbrushed looked a little warm and yellow. I decided to experiment with mixing the paint again and made it more of a blue grey; which seems to fit the AMT-11 semimatt blue-grey of the Soviet Yak. I think Iam happy with that. If I decided to look into more Soviet builds in the future I will endevour to look into the paint schemes a little more and probably invest in some more convincing paints. However, for now, Iam more than happy with that.
  17. Hi Alistair, thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think no one was going to come back to me on this. I purchased a bottle of this at the weekend. My initial thought was it might have been a bit too thick to put through the airbrush; so I thinned it. However, it just went really thin and watery; so wasn't sure if it was going to do the job in hand. I then thought go for it and put it in neat. It seems even though it looks gloppy and thick in the bottle it does sprays quite well. This is were I got mine from. A small bottle of 75 ml just to experiment with.
  18. Wow that is some intro, I built a Short Sterling in my youth and remember one of the main parts missing from it. The canopy. Still remember to this day the art work on the front of the airfix box, and it haunts me. that bloody canopy. Cant remember if i sent away for it. I am working on a lot of older kits to get practice back in as I work with an airbrush now and they seem a good way to get started again. Remember all the old names you mention and it certainly brings back memories of those early days. Hope you enjoy your time here. Ive not been here long but there seem to be some really helpful and enthusiastic folk on here. All the best
  19. Top oh, another Lancashire lad. Hope you enjoy your time here and welcome.
  20. Top build, cracking. Top work with the camouflage.
  21. Thanks very much for that. I made a hell of a mess of the canopy. To much handling of it. My strategy has change now. I get the clear parts only to paint them; then store them away. I put the canopy on before I varnish the aircraft and mask it off. However, I might start to varnish, decal, weather and matt varnish, then put the canopy on at the last minute. I had read a magazine and seen a few things on here and thought to myself, whats the point in decals and painting the stripes, why not do the lot in paint. Bit a of a pain when it came to masking over the paint. However, I have another approach to this next time. I am beginning to learn this a little now. It looks like that in some topics there are some real grey areas. I do some research into what Iam doing. However, not to the point some people do. I admire them for that. However, its not what Iam on here for. Might be a while before that happens as I have about 6 small kits on the go at the moment. Thanks for the comments, time and input
  22. Judging by the look of the image on Massimos site, I would say all of the lines on top of the wings or fictional; apart from the fuel caps. Ill try to remove these the best way possible as it will provide me with a little practice on a Now this I am thankful for, as they were a little bit of a problem to remove on a Spitfire that I was doing. Apparently someone had spotted that these areas did not exsist on the real item and so I had to sand them out, fill and sand flat again. I think Ive done OK. However, wont really know till I put on the primer. Again thanks for the help Learstang, I really wasn't expecting this much help with the build. you and Graham have been great. I hope I do the kit justice in the long run. No real pressure
