  1. All masked off and ready for the next installment. Nice to find out that the plans were the same scale as the kit. They really came in handy for tracing the camouflage scheme and covering over the areas that were not Humrol 93 "Desert Yellow". Win win.
  2. Thanks for the very high compliment. Think there are going to be some more Wildcats in the making. Got the next one, which is an Academy kit lined up.
  3. There is a lot of great information to take in here. However, seeing Iam trying to understand the American way of numbering and prefixes, on their aircraft, its a great question Colin. Sometimes it takes someone else to ask the question and then you think "Why did I not ask that". I think Iam a little wiser on this subject now. Cheers Keith
  4. It was Intermediate blue to start with. However, after some discussion on here and some research it was found that the colour should have been grey. The colour is from Vallejos "US Navy & USMC colors 1940 - 1945" air war color series and is AV 71277 "Dark Gull Grey".
  5. Well I think we are in the closing stages with the Yak 3. What a battle I had on to get the decals in place. Not to sure how old the kit is and really no idea of how its been stored so could not tell if this a normal reaction of these type of decals. I some how knew they were going to be trouble and yes they were. From the moment they started to slide of the backing paper they started to split and come apart. Was going to go with the first place they hit the kit and leave them alone. However, a little persistence and I managed to get them in the right position and in some reasonable state. Leaving them to cure over night and then we shall look at applying the matt finish.
  6. Almost nearly but not quite. A few coats of gloss varnish, decals, might do a little weathering, the flat coat and then the little nik-naks and I think we are done. Oh and the very last job, the canopy.
  7. Really is a little tricky this undercarriage. Think the wheels might just need a touch up. At least they will move round. Still a little perseverance and it seems to be coming together. Think Ill have to do a few alteration so as to make the parts stick, and then stay in place. Odd set up but I think thats the best I can do with that set up. Think it will all hold together. however, I think its going to be a little delicate.
  8. So the cat is out of the bag and the Yak is beginning to show it true colours . Glad all that tape came of with out an hitch . Going to move on to the undercarriage now; which looks a little weird . Might have to put my thinking cap on for this. Lots of bits and no place to stick um.
  9. Finally a coating of brown that as gone on smooth and I can live with. Really dont have much trouble watering down the Humbrol paints. However, this one had to be a little awkward; for some reason. I will be masking it off tonight and then giving it a few coats of Humbrol 93 Desert Yrllow.
  10. Not had much time to work on the Yak this week . It as been sat in the corner looking a bit sorry for its self covered with masking tape and not much else happening . Happy days today as we finally got a little bit of time to slap on some Dark grey and bring this little beastie closure to the finish line
  11. Its a real slow process at the moment. I keep going over things. Really going to have to get to a point and say right, move on.
  12. I see a few companies seem to do that. AZ is another company Ive got a couple of P40s from and they come with three different decal versions. Ill obviously have to print off a few American roundels. However, that should not be to hard as I think Ive got the hang of printing them off now. It beats keep repeating the same kits with the same decals. This is the Eduard kit that I was looking at.
  13. Sorry yes it does. Dont ask me why I did not put a picture of this up. I think Iam beginning to lose it
  14. Another little model that was a joy to put together. Thanks to all for helping with the colour scheme; all most dropped a clanger with that. Also for following me in the build. Still getting used to the site and Iam not that good with doing regular updates, as to what Ive been up to, or linking the images up to the website. I think I might have cracked the picture posting; just going to wait and see. If the pictures disappear after a week, its back to the drawing board. A strange kit that had three names on the box - AGA / Chematic / Gomix. A theory that was played with while in the build. However, the kit inside the box certainly did have Academy stamped all over it. The set of the kit and sprue position is exactly the same as the Academy kit, so to me it looks like a re box for another country. Anyone want to enlighten on the subject please do. If you would like to take a look at the build, then the link to it is below. Nice to be able to display the kit on a stand. Anyways thanks for now.
  15. Almost done on the Wildcat - Gloss varnish applied and decals in place.
  16. Thats a cracking build and so realistic. Fantastic.
  17. Super work. Fantastic build. You've got to love a Corsair or four.
  18. Terrific, that really does look the business. Lovely detail.
  19. Super finish on this. Fantastic results. Really enjoyed following you on this one
