  1. Bonus pic (Ignore the cheapo background was too lazy to get out the proper photo setup lol)
  2. Yep, it's still a lil rough but much better than the cockpit in my first model which was worse (and it was in 48 scale haha) and I'm happy with it. Also I will definitely enjoy building the Hornet
  3. Thank you all for the kind comments, much appreciated Yep, the MIG varnish I used was p good in terms of glossiness and left almost no brush strokes but it did cause some rough areas and bumps which you mentioned. Spraying varnish will definitely help with keeping it smooth. Got it,I myself wanted to use super glue but for personal reasons coundnt get any in time so I just PVAed them in place with little bit of Blu tack to keep them in place. The gear ended up slightly slanted insteat of being straight like in the instructions but I saw some reference photos online and the Hawk's landing gears were slightly slanted too under it's weight, so I'm happy with it. Also btw i left the landing gear off until after I was done with all painting and decals stuff on main fuselage, so coundnt really use liquid cement as the hole for the gear was filled with impossible to remove paint.
  4. Hello there, Henrik here again. A week ago, I finished my second (painted) scale model, a Revell Hawk T.1 used by the RAF. Got it from my first visit to a model kit store one or two months ago with a epic 40% discount, so it was definitely worth it. More detailed explanation below (text wall warning lol) Fully out of box, second painted scale model, took exactly one month to build. (16/10 to 16/11) Base made from styrofoam and card paper painted with craft acrylic. Model itself primed with Gunze Mr Primer Surfacer 1000 lacquer spray can, main color brush painted with Vallejo Model Colour Acrylic Black paint and glossed with MIG Lucky Varnish acrylic gloss. Finally I gave it a quick panel line wash with Medium Grey Panel Line wash from MIG followed with final gloss varnish coats. All other parts were painted with Vallejo with craft paint in really minor areas for detail. *Entirely brush painted except the primer of course* Enjoy the pics~ ^base made with help from a Model Minutes tutorial ^one mistake I made which you can see here is I accidentally filled up some panel lines and stuff on the right wing while spray priming. Learnt not to get too happy with the spray can next time 😁 ^landing gear gave me so much pain as expected and refused to stay straight or not collapse when I set the whole model on the gear itself 😬 ^Tried my best at the cockpit, the seats already have p nice detail out of box but I added seatbelts made out of masking tape below the headrest which were missing. You can also clearly see a decal I screwed up here ^another decal I screwed up was the major tail decals which you can see missing when compared to the box art. Learnt to more carefully handle these decals (especially the thin Cartograf ones) and not break them easily. Build was good in general, parts fit quite well and good detail in many places such as the cockpit and other small parts. Decent amount of armament is provided but i chose to left then off as I forgot to drill holes for the pylons and when I realized that it was too late lol. I made lots of mistakes and messed up some stuff like the aforementioned tail decals which were ruined too badly, but still it was a fun build and a good challenge and I look forward to building more models in my newbie modeling journey What's next? For my third scale model, I bought an Academy 1/72 F/A-18+. Should be a good build after hearing good things about it. Also, I just recently bought my first airbrush kit and the Academy kit will be my first airbrushed scale model. Looking forward to starting on it once the airbrush arrives and I get paint and supplies. 😊 What do you guys think? Comments and critique greatly appreciated. Feel free to share them here. Thank you for reading!
  5. Sadly, I checked Amazon and it says unavailable. And getting it from other sources is quite expensive (not even including delivery fee). Oh well. Thank you! Currently? The X-Wing of course After this, the Hawk. 😆 👍
  6. Thank you sir :) Oooh, that sounds like a good replacement for Pledge since I can't find it here. Thanks for the suggestion!
  7. Sounds pretty good. If only I didn't coat the scratched canopy with clear gloss 😩 Thanks, that scheme looks sick!
  8. Haha, I got a bit too happy with oil paints. I started my X-Wing a month or two ago, and I'm halfway through it. I'll post pics in another topic soon, and I have tried lots of new techniques on it so far:)
  9. Free handed. I just covered the entire wheel in black, used a fine brush to paint the middle white and dry brushed a bit. Yeah, I totally did. It had some weird fitting parts like the intakes and the landing gear (cement didn't help, poured a whole river of PVA and superglue with lots of stuffed Blu tack) but I enjoyed making it. Btw, are those aftermarket decals? Seems a bit costly, especially for a young dude like me, but I'll look into it, aye. Thanks! Thank you all for your kind comments, I appreciate them a lot.
  10. Hello there, Henrik here A few months ago (3 to be specific), I finished my first painted model, a a Revell 1/48 F/A-18E Super Hornet after more than 6 months, as I started work on it in November last year. I got it as a gift, and I chose a Hornet because (unpopular opinion(?) ahead) it's one of my favourite fighter jets, as it looks so sleek. 😄 I agree that the Hornet will never replace the Tomcat, but I consider it a worthy successor. It does the job well, and it kinda looks sick (with the Super Hornet being chonkier, a fat Hornet ) In case you're wondering why it took me so long, it's due to school, time constraints and procrastination. Sometimes I want to start work on it but then remember that I have to do other stuff later and then put the modelling work off When I do start work on it, it's hard to stop though, hahaha 😆. And also, I was planning for my second painted model to either be a plane or a car (either Revell and Tamiya planes, or Tamiya cars, specifically a Supra :D). But a few months ago, I saw a cool Bandai X-wing kit at a department store and couldn't stop myself. I'm currently using it to practice my skills, especially in painting and weathering. I have also tried many new techniques like masking canopies. Oh, and I got myself a Revell BAe Hawk 1/72 for my second painted model, I can't wait to start on it 😎 (once I finish the x wing of course) Here are pictures of the Super Hornet, enjoy~ Also entirely brush painted of course, don't have an airbrush (yet). ^ The left wing, which looks wrong, came like that in the box probably due to a defect. I know I should have got a replacement from Revell but I was too excited to build the model 😳 ^The foggy canopy was because I tried to remove the seamline by sanding and polishing but I can't get any polishing compound so I had to leave it foggy. ^Cockpit, which was the first part I painted and looks the worst. Constructive criticism and critique welcome! Overall, I enjoyed the process and loved every part of the build. I made lots of mistakes, some of which are pretty obvious, some not so, but I too learned a lot and look forward to proceeding ahead in my journey of starting this hobby and look forward to build more models. Thank you for reading, and be sure to comment your thoughts
  11. Haha, thanks for the comment on my workspace! The table where I do model stuff is also my study table, so the picture I posted is just all the stuff neatly stashed, you should see my table when I start to do model stuff:)
  12. Thanks! All I can say is that a lot has changed here according to my grandparents and parents, but those two places still exist Also, just asking but is there a dedicated topic somewhere in this forum to share pictures of one's workspace?
  13. Thanks to the three of you for welcoming me! Also, thanks for the compliments on the Hornet, I promise I will post more pics of it soon
  14. Greetings! Glad to be able to join you in the new members club
  15. Oof. This is why I mostly build planes in KSP nowadays, it's much easier for me and I feel safe in the safe atmosphere of Kerbin.
  16. Hello there, I'm Henrik and I'm a 14 year old male (young lad moment :D) from the small country of Singapore, from Asia. Nice to meet you, and I hope to be a great part of this community and the scale model community in general. I'm a beginner modeller and I like to do models of planes and aviation stuff in general, as I like all stuff aviation (will talk about it below) First, some basic info about myself. My hobbies are making models (of course), drawing, reading books, and gaming. I also like technology stuff in general, like computers and coding. I mostly play games related related to space and aircraft, as I like stuff in these two sectors, for example one game is Kerbal Space Program. My interests are stuff related to aviation, especially stuff like spacecraft. I'm interested in rockets and follow cool rockets like Atlas V and the Falcon 9. I have been a huge fan of planes and rockets since young, and also other vehicles in general, like trains and buses. Up to now, whenever I hitch a ride on a bus or train, I feel like a toddler inside me. I can't wait to get on a plane once we can travel again. Since I like planes, I have liked collecting them since a few years ago, when I started off with a few diecast commercial plane models. I liked them, and around 3-4 years ago I tried to build a bunch (2-3) Bandai Gunpla models because they looked cool when I saw them in the toys section of a department store. I didn't try to decorate them with anything other than the stickers, but I was quite satisfied seeing the finished result. Then after these, I built a 1/72 Bandai X-wing model. I tried my best to detail it with markers to my best efforts, especially drawing on the panel lines with a black marker I too loved the result. Last year, I started building my first ever (painted) scale model, a Revell 1/48 Super Bug (Hornet) which I got as a birthday present in December. I somehow took 8+ months to finish it. In case you're wondering why it took me so long, it's due to school, time constraints and procrastination. Sometimes I want to start work on it but then remember that I have to do other poo-poo later and then put the modelling work off When I do start work on it, it's hard to stop though haha. Btw here's a pic of the Super Hornet. Recently, I visited a model store for the first time and picked up my second model kit, a Revell BAE Hawk. Will be looking forward to building it. I also got many proper tools like masking tape and primer too. Once I finish the X-wing, I'll start on the Hawk. Love seeing how my X-wing takes shape with my new paints and tools. I currently have a bunch of Vallejo and Mig paints as I'm brush painting, and 2 bottles of Tamiya paints. I should be getting my first airbrush, albeit a cheap one, at the end of the year though I shall show you my workspace, and some of my stuff. ^The table where I do model stuff is also where I study and do other stuff, so when I'm not modelling I place my stuff in the above corner. I'm planning to build my own paint rack in the spot where the ruler is above. The DIY spray booth of mine, which I built for me to safely use spray can primer and hopefully airbrush stuff in the future. I usually brush paint at my table but as seen above now I paint at the booth as its more comfortable. Aight, that's all I have to say about myself. I hope to be a good and friendly member of not this forum, but also the modelling community in general. I also hope to learn a lot from the many experienced people here and gain useful knowledge. Thanks for reading, and have a nice day :D
