  1. Thank you foeth. I circled all Pom Pom director positions below, may I check with you if it is correct? HMS Ark Royal by xxx, on Flickr
  2. Did you refer to 6 lollipop searchlight shaped objects on bridge? 3 front, 2 rear and 1 underneath?
  3. So Ark Royal did have PomPom director, just without the Type 282 radar, correct? I recalled someone also mentioned the Pom Pom directors were not done properly in Merit Intl kit. I think both Merit Intl, Trumpeter and Aoshima all incorrectly depicted PomPom director as "lollipop searchlight shaped object". Also I would like to double check if all pom pom directors were located in bridge, totalling 6 of them (picture below), right? https://flic.kr/p/2nhXgBE
  4. my 2 cents here. "During hostilities Renown received Radars 271, 282, 284 and 285 in 1941, and six 20mm were fitted. By the autumn of 1942 ten more 20mm had been added and the 0.5in MGs landed. During a refit from 22 February to 9 June 1943, the ship was given an additional thirteen twin and three single 20mm, and the complete aircraft installation was removed. From December 1943 to January 1944 at Rosyth, she received a four-barrelled 2pdr on 'B' turret, plus seven twin and five single 20mm. In 1945 the torpedo tubes were removed and the forward three twin 4.5in on each beam landed, probably as a weight-saving measure." Revised AA as of final configuration December 1943. Source: Maurice P. Northcott Renown and Repulse 1978 See discussions here. https://forum.worldofwarships.eu/topic/123509-hms-renown-1944/ I think the AA configuration in Trumpeter 1945 kit is completely wrong.
  5. Nice built Does anyone know if Flyhawk ever models the Pom Pom director in this kit. I already went through the instruction a couple of times, but did not seem to find it.
  6. https://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Chrono-04CV-Ark Royal.htm Here is a detailed operation history for HMS Ark Royal. You can find what air-group it carried at different times by Ctrl+F searching for keywords "Swordfish" and "Skuas"
  7. Hi Guys I am looking for 3D parts to replace Aoshima's 1/700 HMS Norfolk and Flyhawk's 1/700 HMS Aurora's fire control (gun director). Norfolk Direct Control Tower For Norfolk, my best guess is it is a 8' director control tower with 2 x Type 284 Gunnery Radar antennas + covered HACS MKIII with type 285 antenna? Not sure about the stern bridge. Aurora Director Control Tower For Aurora, is there 2x HACS MKIV with type 285 antennas + 1x Leander Class 6" Director? My first choice is MicroMaster in NZ. However, I am not sure which one I can use, can anyone shed some light on this topic? https://micromaster.co.nz/collections/royal-fire-control/1-700-scale https://www.shapeways.com/product/WB9W2BX2W/1-700-rn-ww2-hacs-mkiv-open-4?optionId=61579815&li=shops And any suggestion on 3D parts?
  8. Here you go, this is what the pole on the canal bank looks like. Now the mystery is those ones on the slope top
  9. Hi Guys, I would like to make a 1/700 Diorama for a Konigsberg cruiser in Kiel Canal. I noticed there were lines of poles along the river bank and slope top from historical photos. The poles on the slope top look like the telegraph pole with multiple crossbars or utility pole with multiple cross bars (regional power supply+local service)? what about those ones along the canal bank, utility pole with two insulators?? Please anyone knows what those poles are, please shed some light. https://www.asisbiz.com/kms/Karlsruhe/images/Kriegsmarine-German-light-cruiser-KMS-KARLSRUHE-on-the-Kiel-Canal-IWM-HU1021b.jpg
  10. Hi Guys I'm doing some reference check on HMS Colossus AA weapon and aircraft A. AA Weapon Various online sources indicate HMS Colossus' original small AA weapons consist of 24 pom-pom (quadruple x 6) 32 Oerlikon 20 mm guns 4 QF 3-pounder Vickers In July, 32 Oerlikon 20 mm guns were replaced by 21 Bofors 40 mm guns in single and twin configurations. https://uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/3237.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_aircraft_carrier_Arromanches#Weaponry My questions are: 1. Did HMS Colossus keep all pom-pom? from IHP's instruction, I think the answer is yes. Two in bridge, two on each side of the ship (Part# D69 and D70). http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/hms/cv/Colossus-700-ihp/ImperialHobbyHMSColossusReview.htm 2. However, how many Bofors are in single and twin configuration? From IHP's instruction, I counted 8 single on the right and 11 single on the left (Part# D68) 3. Does Part# D82 represent twin Bofors? The length of the barrel does not match the single one though. It has two on each side of the ship + one in bridge If Part# D82 is twin Bofors, then the Bofors count (19 single + 5 twin) in this kit will exceed the total number of Bofors HMS Colossus had. If Part# D82 is not Bofors, then what it is? 4. where the QF 3-pounder Vickers sits? B. Aircraft Also one source indicates "After VJ Day American CORSAIR aircraft provided by US on Lease Lend were disposed of by ditching in the sea. https://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Chrono-04CV-Colossus.htm Does this mean the ship had no fighters when it arrived at Far East? Thank you in advance!
  11. Thank you everyone. I really appreciate your help on this matter.
  12. Hi I would like to purchase some smaller vessels (destroyer, frigate, corvette, etc) for my diorama of capital ships (HMS Colossus, King Geroge V, etc) in late war British Pacific Fleet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Pacific_Fleet I have been searching for the right ship in the market and laid my eyes on these. https://starling-models.co.uk/products/hms-amethyst-1949?variant=31880295645241 https://starling-models.co.uk/collections/atlantic-models/products/hms-venus 1. However it is a HMS Amethyst 1949 version, does anyone know what differences are between its 1945 and 1949 configuration? 2. Is the HMS Venus kit in its late war configuration? Also can anyone recommend any other full kit in the market for smaller vessels (destroyer, frigate, corvette, etc) in 1945 serving the British Pacific Fleet?
