FANTASIC PRICE FOR THE BIG TIFFIE, VIA AMAZON....
bentwaters81tfw replied to rob's topic in Aircraft WWII
^ Ah, sunrise over Woomera again! -
Misterkit postage is prohibitive though. £28 for 3 kits to the UK. I'll wait and see how much Hannants want.

HMS Fearless 1:600 Airfix
bentwaters81tfw replied to Longhorn's topic in Ready for Inspection - Maritime
I've had one sitting in the stash for over 20 years. I don't know the naval term for the chap who was in charge of the loading dock, but one of these guys in the Falklands lives a couple of miles away, and he gave me some of the 'extras' info on board when she was down there. His daughter used to work for me for a couple of years. That's a nice job, I must get mine done, I have some WEM goodies for it as well. -
Almark decals, has anyone used them?
bentwaters81tfw replied to Stephen's topic in Aircraft Cold War
I had the Sea Fury set as well. The Invasion stripes were translucent, (I'm looking at it now) and they are a bit on the thick side. Although it was prepared with Klear, and sealed afterwards, the edges seem to have lifted. The decal sheet offered two complete sets of markings, so this is going to be stripped back and re done. Hobbycraft 1/48. -
Mine was a special discount from Jadlam at a touch over £41. The extra sprue was between the box and the outer carton. I did wonder why, now I know. Psssst........anyone want a spare Full Stack?

Well spotted. A nice build, but those intakes need some work. No need for that, they were told at the CAD stage they were wrong.

You can paint over Future, never had a problem. Once it is fully dry, you can put a flat coat on top and it's quite happy with that as well.

^Wot E Said! An alternative is Plasti Kote Chrome Silver, but it does need some Klear to stop the finger marks.

FANTASIC PRICE FOR THE BIG TIFFIE, VIA AMAZON....

Kallisti, retailers get big by squashing the little guy. That's called 'business'. Whether one agrees with the ethics of it makes no matter, it happens and will continue to do so...and I dare say get even worse. I am aware Hattons have the kit on pre order discount, as they do other things, but I got screwed over by Hattons once, and they are not 'first choice' for me. The local hobby shops in this area have all died off, Modelzone we know the story, Everybody's Hobbies, that became anything but. Stopped kits, stopped railways, just imported cheap mass market tat, Galaxy Models again chose to concentrate on R/C. That leaves me 2 wargames shops where I get some paint and glue. Next nearest is Hannants, and they do OK from my wallet. I wasn't going to buy a Typhoon...509 parts, it will never get built by me, but I am supporting Airfix. They choose who they do business with, and obviously that included Amazon, so I have no qualms in that direction. Without their like there, are many items I would never have bought, so other manufacturers of products would have had fewer sales. As stated Amazon may welch on the deal and I will lose no sleep if they do. Besides this investment, I have have spent an equal sum in the past two days with two of our traders who frequent this site , so I think I do my bit for the LHS where I can. -
FANTASIC PRICE FOR THE BIG TIFFIE, VIA AMAZON....

There will be enough Tax on this anyway. Excise duty on fuel, VAT on everything, How much tax do you want to pay? The fact that Amazon take advantage of the poor tax legislation in this country means they can discount the product, and the end user benefits. You can boycott Amazon if you want to, but you are just subsidising the Govt.theft. RPM is not a factor anymore. I don't have a local model shop anymore, save for Hannants, and they don't discount much! -

That's just swung it for me. On order even if I do sell it on later. -

Very nice. I have one of these in the stash, with the Dr1 -
Here's one I made earlier. (About 20 years ago) You will see I had no problem with the skirt build, but I did get glue bleed with the hemispheres.

River Scene - Finished me hearties
bentwaters81tfw replied to Ray S's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Reminds me of a joke about the local brewery (Tolly Cobbold, now defunct). John Cobbold asked a local artist to paint a picture to promote his beer. After a few weeks, JC goes to see the result. It was a scene reminscent of your creation, with the addition of a couple enjoying each other on the bank. JC likes the scene but asks what the couple have to do with his beer? The artist says it encapsulates Tolly's beer............'effing near water! -
I wonder if KH have deliberately done this on the promotional shot to stop people copying it? Some nifty scalpel work will sort that out though.
