    Hello folks,

I would like to build an AEC Matador (AFV Club kit). In particular, I would like to build this vehicle towing an old 6inh 26cwt Heavy Howitzer over Halfaya Pass:

    Also got Resicast howitzer.

However, I know very little about RHA regiments, organization, markings, etc. and I need help. Do you guys have any recommendations on which markings should be suitable for this? I am aware that we cannot be sure (unless someone has this photo captioned/dated), but I would like to at least use markings that are potentially correct.

Also, do you have any recommendations for the decals?

    Thanks!

    Nenad

    Good evening.

I've built the 1/35 Afv club AEC Matador Early cab kit and it's a marvelous vehicle when completed.

Before you start, Google perthmilitarymodelling.com.  I got some fantastic advice and help to build it properly. Where to cut, measuring bits..the site page is a minefield of help.

I have a couple of their softskins vehicles but haven't built them yet.

The 1/72 Scammell doesn't look bad but let down by poorly detailed wheels. Luckily I have been able to replace these with some 3d printed ones I found online.

The 1/76 LRDG ford I have looks pretty rough - the wheels are particularly horrible and don't even seem round.

    Hope this helps

    Ben

It's the Scammell Artillery Tractor R100 I was interested in purchasing.

Hi - thank you for the message, and apologies for delay🥴. I’m not a member of YDPMS - do they still meet at that place down Nunnery Lane?

Yes they still meet at Nunnery lane.

They also have a Facebook group and a WhatsApp group too.

Recently I ordered some resin parts from Heli Cast Resin (Ukraine) and there was no problems so I guess my parcel will arrive safely. Either from Russia or Georgia. At some point in time :)

If W-Model really is from Russia, maybe they should do what Zvezda does. Whatever it is. Probably Zvezda is way bigger producer but their new kits arrive in a few day after being released to shops all over Europe, even in Croatia and the prices are usual. Nothing expensive...

Now totally off-topic, but Russia and Ukraine have some great kit and aftermarket parts producers. I do hope all that dying and destruction over there will end soon.

I quite fancy the M.A.N HX 8x8 truck

as far as I know from public information, the owner (Dmitry) of W-Models as many ruzzians simply did flee from Russia to Georgia , after Russia braked the war (and yes it's war not conflict) against Ukraine.

From his own words, at least some 10 years ago the designers of CAD models working for him, were from ...Ukraine! So obviously he was sent same direction as "military ruzzian battleship" .

Thus I would assume he has limited abilities to serve with the orders.

I don't do politics hence choosing my words and calling it a conflict was playing it safe. I think Dmitry was based in Ukraine when he released the MAN 8x8 Sv kit. Hopefully i should get one soon and pray for the safety of all model suppliers over there

I tried to put this topic under other section but could not. I guess it's because I'm new... Anyway, administrator can move this to right section.

My question is, does anyone have any info on W-Model? It's supposed to be from Batumi (Georgia) but I heard they are actually from Russia...

I contacted them via purchase form on their site and also via email and got one answer with invoice for my purchase.

But after that initial email, not a sound :(

There's a Kit i fancy buying. I was told they're based in Russia and due to the conflict all business to the UK has problems. If this is true then it's a real shame as that guy is running a business and trying to make a living. Let's hope it doesn't go on much longer.

Hi PodFather! I originated in York (Huntington) but moved to the US ages ago. Sorry to see that Pickerings book shop is gone, I hope Monk Bar Models are still going.  Is the model shop down Fossgate still there? I bought my 1/200 HMS Hood from them and they did a great job of packing it for the flight back, even had a handle on the case.

Any other good model shops and book shops in the area?  Regards, Pete in RI

Monk Bar model shop is still going.

  8. Hi guys.  Is there a difference between British and USA Olive Drab on softskin vehicles. I would like my models to look the right colours if possible.

    I've found this site.

    Model Shade

It doesn't have every paint manufacturer on it but most of the main ones. I've found it handy that is gives paint chips (how accurate they are is another matter) and you can see how paint colour changes between brands.

    Highly recommend this app.

    Thanks guys.

MWD - I know there's a model boat club in York and a model railway club but didn't know there was a general model club.

Facebook search  YDPMS. York & District Plastic Model Society.

  11. I build 1/76 and 1/72 scale softskin vehicles of WW2.
I'm needing some help for an upcoming project.

Do you know the colour of RAF vehicles used in support of air operations with the B. E. F.

Any help from the guys / ladies appreciated

Ouch, that is a question into the wiiiiiide open ...
To grasp the vast landscape in which you plunge I suggest you take a look at https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/
It's very "in your face" like and nicely illustrated. Start with ww1 tanks and surf a bit.

When it comes to specific questions and paint guides, use this forum!

I normally build 1/76 & 1/72 softskin military lorries and Landovers. I have noticed the large available tank kits out there. Hopefully i can carry on in 1/76 and 1/72 scales.

  13. Can anyone recommend a book on Tanks and id tanks. I know nothing about them and i am changing modelling genre. I don't really want to follow instruction paint guides as they're normally wrong.
