  1. I had a Cortina, way back then. Now I have a grey Yaris. Same thing really - adequate. 😄
  2. Will you settle for a boat? This film must have been released in the days of Frog.
  3. In the sixties we all thought that the cars of the 21st century would all be able to fly.
  4. You’ve just jogged my memory Steve. I’ve got a resin Hind kit with one Pegasus engine and one other. It was a test bed aircraft. Now if the other engine was a Tiger… I’ll check as soon as the sleeping dog gets off my lap.
  5. The kind of shops that used to stock such specialist items were all too mortal, as your thread title implies. The only place I can think of would be the itinerant dealers who set out their stalls at model shows.
  6. Whether the hobby is expensive or not is dependent on our individual circumstances, surely. I counted my store of models. I have 19 plastic aircraft (1/72 apart from the one that I thought was 1/72 but turned out to be 1/48. I hate that anomalous kit!😡), nine wooden ships and one resin bust. That’s at least five years worth of building for me, possibly twice that (the boats take ages). The relevant point is that all but three of the 29 were second hand purchases, something that I hadn’t realised until reading this thread. You might think that current prices are discouraging me from buying new. But that’s odd because I have plenty of money for the hobby. Pension rises have been very good lately. Now, let me ponder for a minute. I think it’s not the actual prices of models (and everything else too),that have made me unusually miserly but the constant weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth about inflation in the media and the street. Everyone tells me I should be worried and count the pennies so I have been, but really it’s not that bad for me. I should add that I’m retired, single, don’t take holidays, hardly drive my old cheap car, don’t drink or smoke, don’t eat out and am a scruffy lad who doesn’t buy clothes very often. 😉 For me therefore, model making remains an affordable entertainment. I divide my costs by the hours of pleasure I spend, and am more than content. I realise that not everyone is as unencumbered as me though, and there are many who are far better off too.
  7. Well, I’m definitely ageing.
  8. Removing the ‘stain’, which is just lumps of paint or probably the powdered mica which is the sparkly part is easily done with isopropyl alcohol. But retouching metallic paint is something I’ve always considered impossible. I suggest cleaning it all off with the alcohol and starting over. 😏 Shake the can very well. Keep it in your pocket for a day when you will be moving around a lot. Warmth and movement disperses the mica. Keep an eye on the nozzle as you spray and wipe off any drying paint with a cotton bud and alcohol. I hope someone has a less depressing answer for you. 🙂
  9. Sorry my old mate, but this vessel of yours is at least a century later than my usual maritime interests, I know nothing about this sort of thing.
  10. I discovered today that the lower stub wings inboard of the wing fold line were not fabric covered, as supplied in our kits, but metal, with a couple of strengthening ribs. I assume the kit designer saw those ribs on a plan and mistook them for ribs under canvas. The stub wings are painted at the same colour as the fuselage metal which is very handy because we can paint the fabric covered wings separately I hope that’s useful info.

  13. It doesn’t cost anything to list an item at a high price and there’s a sucker born every minute so if the seller isn’t in a hurry, why shouldn’t he try high first? You don’t have to buy.
  14. That will look fabulous. Thanks for the full picture. Is the broad chord fin special to the aerobatics team aircraft?
  15. I’m alternating playing with the Shark and my big boat project. It’s L’Orenoque’s turn right now but I’ll be back here in a few days.
  16. Er, the Frog Shark engines are about as minimal as can be. See my previous page, above the photos of the real thing.
  17. I know what you’re thinking Chris, but you can’t tempt me into super detailing an engine. 😂
