Love seeing great models of obscure types.

Similar to the original poster, I have a few books on the Corsair and I am looking for further references. I have the SAM Datafile and the Osprey "Modelling the F4U Corsair" book.
I am looking for further recommendations on good Corsair books. I particularly am interested in the F4U-4 to -7 series of Corsairs (especially the XF4U and early production test versions of those various marks) as well as the Goodyear F2G Super Corsairs.
I am tempted by the Motorbooks Corsair book and the Detail and Scale books. Dana Bell's Aircraft Pictorial books are also quite good, as far as I can tell. Thanks for any other info on good references.
Any magazine "specials" also that feature the F4U? I have the "Aviation Classics" special on the Corsair from 2011 which is a nice introduction to the Corsair for the uninitiated. 👍

That is a very nice model - doubly so considering you constructed it from a Mach II kit.

Has anyone built the 1/72 F4U-1D Corsair kit from Airfix? It is widely believed that it isn't worth the effort nowadays given the various other modern offerings available today. Obviously the Tamiya kits are light years ahead of it as are the Academy and Hasegawa ones.
- Is it accurate in shape?
- How well does the canopy fit (1989 re-issue - Aircraft of the Aces series)?
- Is the propeller shape accurate?
It has no cockpit detail to speak of so that is one black mark against it and the rivets are OTT as well. Thanks for any information anyone can offer.

That is a fabulous replica of the F4U-5! By all accounts, the Monogram kit is not the easiest to build but you have made it look like it was a breeze (obviously it wasn't, though). 👍

Very nice Kestrel. Kits of the Kestrel and P1127 are badly needed in all the usual scales. The Airfix P1127 is great to have but badly dated now!

What a pity the sole prototype was destroyed. Your model is a fine testament to an elegant design.

I'd say that will be a difficult one to research. Do you know who did the aerial co-ordination for the stunt flying sequence? Jim Gavin was involved in the oil rig scene in "Diamonds Are Forever" but that was basically an American production. I'm not sure if Marc Wolff was involved either. Sorry I can't offer anything further.

Nice build of an interesting airplane.

Being a passenger (or crew) in Russia is going to become a dangerous proposition over the next few years, given the condition of the airline fleet there.
