  1. I have been following this all the way from Scotland from the start. Gives me a smile every time I see it. Incredible work. Thanks for keeping on it.
  2. Thanks. For some reason I thought the Valom kit would be miles ahead, but it seems not. I have my eye on a couple of the Williams kits ,so that is kind of swaying me towards just getting one.
  3. Thankyou for that info. I wasn't sure of the name of the aircraft, but now know that the photo of the aircraft with the dice and Ladys Delight on it is the actual aircraft he flew in. I was never sure as a couple of aircraft are in the pictures. It seems to have the fuselage flash, which I believe was yellow . Awesome!
  4. Thankyou Markus. Sound advice. I would be up for a bit of filling, and perhaps scribing. The Scalemates page is great. Cheers Willie
  5. Hello all. I have been lurking around this brilliant forum for a while, wondering if I could ever build a kit as even half as well as most of the esteemed company on here ! I have recently found a bit of time to spare, and had made myself a promise to do this task, so before the plunge is proverbially made, I would appreciate some advice from the modelling royalty on here. A bit of background, I live in Scotland, and my wife is American. My late father in law, Bill, was a radio operator on a C-46, flying the Hump in the CBI in WW2. He passed not too long ago, and I was lucky enough to have spent a good bit of time in his company. I recently found the serial no. of his usual aircraft (42-101217 15th Combat Cargo Squadron) and would like to make a model of it in tribute. Below is a link to the aircraft, hope it works - https://curtisscommando.e-monsite.com/pages/aircraft/s-n-42-101036-to-42-101235 I know there are the older Williams kit, and the newer Valom kit. Caracal decals also have a set of decals with an aircraft from the same squadron. https://www.caracalmodels.com/cd72093.html I was wondering what the best kit is in your opinions? I was hoping I could manage to cut the decals too, to get the correct tail number. Any suggestions for aftermarket? My skills are rusty, and I will probably be doing rattle can and acrylics. Not too sure on interior colours either. I just want to make a model in tribute to the best of my abilities, and would be grateful for any advice from you all. Thankyou in advance. I will post some pics that he had that give me inspiration.
  6. Thankyou John. All the best, Willie .
  7. Wow, looks like I managed it ! Thankyou for your help! They got rockets to the moon quicker than I managed this !

  13. Greetings from a very bad modeller who hasn't built a ship since a barely passable Airfix HMS Belfast for a veteran many years ago! Beautiful build. I am following as I am originally from the town where the Hood was built, and most of my family worked in the yards at some point. I remember as a kid talking to an old man who had worked building her, and the disbelief he, and the whole town had when she was sunk. Thankyou for the journey so far.
  14. I have been following this and had to comment. The attention to detail is just incredible. What have you still planned, and how much of this epic build is completed if you don't mind me asking? It's just amazing.
