all a very sad situation. I can recall more years ago than I care to mention, when the company I worked for started supplying inspection machines to both BAe and a great many contractors specifically for the then Nimrod 2000 project. The money squandered on this project alone beggers belief. For us, it was a very profitable project. Can't recall now sales figures, but it was significant, and we ONLY had a small part to play. And what happens, many years down the line, still not inservice, and to be binned before it does. I cannot begin to imagine how much has been wasted, and that was only one project, we now have:- F-35 will we won't we? Tornado knackered and loaded with 'Blue Circle' for some time (in its youth). Typhoon still questionable any only prehaps get 1/2 of original order Tankers still waiting Harrier NOTHING to replace it Canberra NOTHING to replace it and the list of F*** ups goes on and on

bugger all at the moment Used to have Tucanos every Tuesday and Wednesday, now very rare Harriers most days - soon to be none at all Sometimes Typhoons can be heard and rarely seen Sometimes Tornados very low, now very rare helicopters very often nowdays, all sorts Wokkers, Puma, Lynx,Merlin and sometimes even a SeaKing

Have read that as well. So went with Light Slate Grey ( probably too green?) Dark Sea Green (probably about righ?) Off White (Mr Color) and of course SKY just can't see it being 'light blue' a/c would stick out like a sore thumb, overland as well as sea looks like, this topic will run and run so you pays your money and takes your choice?

Hello again Ben, Yes I shall be at SMW10, on the Belvoir MC stand. Hall 2 I believe, just behind where Revell stand usually is Not entering model in comp as it is not good enough, so not that bothered where it is displayed. However priority will be for own club. I agree about colours. Warpaint does mention light blue, so suggest this is where Almark got their info as there was at the time, few other sources. However, looking a photos you posted other day, cannot believe that Light Blue was used. The contrast is far too similar. For sure (apparently) 'Dark Green' was used. So IF a blue was used then just perhaps it was PRU. Bottom line is, there is no definative info so who is to say that using a shade of blue is wrong? I was sooooo tempted to use PRU (cosmic) Blue, but in the end I bottled it and went with Neil Robinson/Paul Lucas's suggestion

Actually. I've built it. Bloody thing. No other kit comes to mind that is so poorly engineered It took LOADS of work. Don't know why but fully detailed all interior as well, including main cabin. Can't see bugger all except the two scratch built cameras. Perhaps I should write a full build artical and get it published as I took photos of all the process(es)? Pity Neil left MAM! In fact, there were one or two parts that actually fitted! Colours used where underside Mr Color and White Ensign Sky to give a contrast topside White Ensign Light Slate Grey Precision Dark Sea Green Mr Color Off White Pattern based on SAM Publications - The Battle for Britain by Neil Robinson extra info from Warpaint comic and 'The Eyes of the RAF' by Roy Conyers Nesbit Neil states a suggested colour scheme, which is pretty much what I went with, however Warpaint states that the topside was 'Dark Green' and 'LIGHT Blue'. BUT which blue? Did not agree with the latter as the contrast would not be so extreme for overland, and perhaps too light over water. I suppose 'Cosmic Blue' (later to be know as PRU Blue) would have been a possibility, but Neil's suggestion seemed more likely, so............. Ta for all your comments. Can be seen first hand at Newark (Southwell) show 17th Oct. Oh! and BTW, it was all done freehand. No masking involved

well I don't know about a show stopper but many thanks anyway

Taken time, loads of it. Far from perfect, but will have to do for now

Here's a few images of Hudson finished the other day. Well it was until I saw the photos that Ben provided. Ho Hum apologies for poor quality, did them with low light last night Classic Airframes 1/48 3 or more years in the making, mostly off. Nearly binned it more than once.

thats brilliant, what a good find. Well done makes interesting reading if somewhat sad

Ben Please do Regarding windows. I believe that both side windows were opened up so that each have a camera pointing down approx 30 degrees. other cameras were installed, however no info as to exactly where. I found photo in RAF Photo Recce book (can't recall exact name at time of writting) that clearly shows vertical camera installation just forward of the door. So thats where I put it. Suspect cameras may have been installed in nose, possibly in vertical position but no info so left it out Up late this morning so forgot model photos. Must do it tomorrow

isn't it just typical. :shithappens: Just finished Classic Airframes Hudson yesterday as N7334. Its taken 3 years on and mostly off, and then a couple of photos turn up, and can now see where some 'issues' are resolved. So, have now got to try to rectifiy in readyness for Southwell show in less than 2 weeks. Anyway never mind. Will try to get photos posted tomorrow. The top photo, btw, has been flopped. The direction of the diagonal stripes are going from top right to bottom left, when infact are top left to bottom right as seen on the lower photo. Ah well onward and upward

Try these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Regia-Aeronautica-.../ref=pd_sim_b_2 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Courage-Alone-Ital.../ref=pd_sim_b_3 Fighter: The True Story of the Battle of Britain - Len Deighton Blood, Tears and Folly: An Objective Look at World War II - Len Deighton not all about BofB but some good source of info will look good in your referencing though

How important these issues are guess still depends on anyone's taste. Personally I find some of them too much for my liking and this is the point. there is plenty of research material, so why do they get it wrong. I they were 'pocket money' kits, it would be understandable. These are expensive no matter which way it is viewed and should not occur with such regularity

This is all so disappointing Having heard that HB were releasing a series of' The Fin' this year, I could hardly wait. So, here we are yet again HD/Thrumpy make a complete man-vegetables of the job. is there ANY occasion when an aircraft release has been acceptable by 'us anoraks'? I can't believe that a 21st Century company with ALL the resources available today that they can make such a balls up of just about everything they produce. I mean, have you seen all those rivets on mainplane of the Typhoon? I could have sworn it was supposed to be carbon? Bottom line is that I will certainly not be wasting my hard earned shekels on any of these. Sad fact is, unless Tamigawa decide to get it right, we will in all probability, never have any better. On the Brightside, its only taken something like 30 odd years to get an almost acceptable EE Lightning and they made a man-vegetables of that in 1/72 and outrageously expensive in 1/32 (still with ‘issues’) Ho Hum…….. back to the drawing board

thats better thought it might have been a new sort of biscuit?

Did hear a while back that Newark A.M. was due to have a Nimrod, probably an R1. However, the runway, or what remains of it, is in poor repair so is very unlikely to be flown in. Hope this on not an opportuneaty lost. If they have to fly it in, I guess it may go to Syerston or Swinderby and disasembled for road transport. Perhaps not best idea as it will add extra cost and time. Having said that, better than not having one at all. Don't supposed we will see a Rivet Joint for a while yet though. http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2010/...t-purchase.html

Not sure if this is best place to post this ditty. Have just ordered a few tins of White Ensign enamel paints and have been informed that Regia Aeronautica paints will be discontinued unless sales improve. That would be a crying shame, but look at it from the suppliers point of view, you can't flog a dead horse. So, you have been warned, get those wop kits out of the loft insulation, order some paint and get building. You know it makes sense. regards Chris
