If you like search for Official document L.DV.521/1 Behandlungs und Anwendungsvorschrift für Flugzeuglacke Teil 1 Motorflugzeuge from 1938 revised 1941 determines the exclusive use of RLM77 hellgrau as colour for markings on aircraft painted in RLM22 schwarz allover. The chapter markings on page 120 from the book by Michael Ullmann has this list: RLM Nr. RLM02 RLM grau interiors and camouflage RLM04 gelb markings RLM21 weiss markings and winter camouflage RLM22 schwarz markings and night camouflage RLM24 dunkelblau markings RLM25 hellgrün markings RLM26 braun markings RLM27 gelb markings RLM28 weinrot markings RLM66 schwarzgrau markings and camouflage RLM77 markings for night camouflage This is what Mr.Ullmann found in official Luftwaffe documents which are also in the book but are too long to write here. The second quote is from the description of a profile drawing of Messerschmitt Bf 110 nightfighter painted completely in black with the markings in RLM77 and he writes clearly to see that the markings are RLM77. Saluti Giampiero

From the book "Oberflächenschutzverfahren und anstrichstoffe der deutschen Luftfahrtindustrie und Luftwaffe 1935-1945" by Michael Ullmann on page 104. "RLM77: Dieser teilweise feste,teilweise entfernbare Nachtsichtschutzanstrich(!) wurde bis ins Jahr 1943 hinein angewendet.Durch die bei Tage immer gefährlicher werdenden Einsätze für die Bomber wurde etwa ab diesem Zeitpunkt ein fester Nachtsichtschutzanstrich(!) eingeführt.Er hatte die vorteile eines geringeren Luftwiederstandes und ausserdem war er haltbarer als ein wiederentfernbarer Anstrich,was den Wartungsaufwand verringerte." On page 112. "Schön zu erkennen das die Kennzeichen in Farbton 77 ausgeführt sind." As it is late please translate this with the known programmes but in short Mr.Ullmann shows that RLM 77 was only used as markings colour. Saluti Giampiero

As newest research showed at least some Heinkel He 219 Uhu nightfighters were painted in white allover.Luftwaffe nightfighters painted in light colours allover were not that uncommon. Saluti Giampiero

You are right about the use of RLM77 hellgrau as camouflage colour being an invention.RLM77 hellgrau was used as a removable colour for markings on nightfighter only until 1943.There is no mention of the colour having been used after this date and as camouflage. Saluti Giampiero

The inner wheel well covers were only installed to later series Macchi MC202 with A.S. behind the matricola militare but it is certainly no mistake to make an A.S. aircraft without the wheel well covers as they were removed on the field on many aircraft to make maintenance work easier for the ground personell.
