  1. Two years on and I’m having the same dilemma … fantastic thread, thanks for posting this and for everyone’s input! I had planned to go for 9th AF “Curly Six” but may now be very temped to build as “Miss Ann” … or maybe I’ll look out another kit and build both 😂
  2. Reaching out to this great community of scale modellers with a challenging question. I'm working on working on a scheme for an Airspeed Oxford which was flown by the US Navy Anti Submarine Squadron while in the UK. It was not used for training but as a "communications aircraft". I've found a scheme used by Commander Squadron of 94 Combat Bomber Wing, 8th Airforce, England and am wondering if this scheme would be relevant for all services. Coincidentally, Ive seen the same scheme used by the British too.
  3. How did the F-DCAL decals work out? Are they delivered ready to apply? I was a bit confused by the silk screen print reference
  4. May be an example of this type of ageing and finally a use to put one’s bottle of Ammo MIG RAF grass green to 😉 This 1957 Hawker Hunter XF509 was fixed on a pole outside the Humbrol factory in Hull, closed in 2006 before being relocated to a military museum at Fort Paull, Hull, until its closure late last year, when it was privately purchased by Lyndon Davies, chief executive of Hornby Hobbies, to be put on display at the Hornby UK office in Margate. https://uk.airfix.com/community/blog-and-news/news/hornby-ceo-donates-hawker-hunter
  5. Would be great to see this against the other paints discussed here and purports to be RAF dark green 😊
  6. Your comment is the second I have seen for Hataka in as many days, so I am going to have to give them a go! I've grown to enjoy my pair of Ammo Mig bright brown and green models but not sure I'd use them again, albeit they did cover the surface much better than Vallejo. I have also acquired a set of AK Interactive RAF colours too try .. so now just need to acquire a squadron or two of WW2 aircraft to try them out on 😂
  7. I'm sure it was referenced but can't see for looking now .. found a copy of the British Aviation Colours of WWII book in PDF format. Very interesting! https://www.seawings.co.uk/images/colour charts/British Aviation Colours of WWII.pdf
  8. Would love to have Ammo Mig’s view n this thread. Absolutely fascinating!
  9. So here are the Spitfire & Hurricane under natural light, painted in the Ammo Mig early WW2 RAF paints .. sitting together in the same hew they look sort of OK. ... less of a disaster in my view than I expected. As JackG so rightly pointed out, Ammo seem to blend on the light side for scale effect, and I tend to understand this, as often I’ve tried to match life like colours only to think the finished model too dark to see all that detail I’ve enjoyed while constructing it!
  10. Hmm .. the links in this resource don’t seem to work 😔
  11. I’m going with Ammo Mig just to shame them when I share later. I bought these on the understanding they did what they said on the tin ... they are not cheap so shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it if they are so wrong. It’s not as though Ammo are a small player in this modelling lark
  12. This is what A.MIG-915 Dark Green (BS 241) is looking like to me (finally worked out how to add a picture 😂)
  13. Ah I see ... also found a post where Vallejo 70.893 US Dark Green is suggested ... which doesn’t look miles away from this Mig version I’ve got 😂 It’s a minefield 😩
  14. Pete .. what green do you then use for RAF? It was my dissatisfaction with Vallejo that led me to Mig 🤦‍♂️
  15. Ok you lost me there .. so where does this leave A.MIG-915 Dark Green (BS 241) ? 🤦‍♂️
  16. Nobby ... here’s the set https://www.migjimenez.com/en/acrylic-colors/1290-raf-wwii-early-colors.html
  17. I usually use the Vallejo brand but their RAF dark green is so thin that it takes so many coats one almost loses the definition beneath, so I thought I’d try something different and after reading good reviews on the mig paints thought I’d go for their early ww2 RAF set. The spray really nicely, no clogging and very good coverage. My only concern is that the green looks far too bright and much lighter than my equivalent Vallejo or Humbrol 30, the age old standard for RAF green. I’m going to persevere with it and see how it looks after a bit of light weathering and decals. If I can work out how, I’ll see if I can publish some pictures here when done.
  18. Nobby, did you make a decision on these? I've just had a go at using the dark green and dark earth but am not sure I'm 100% convinced
