  1. They are exactly some of the pics I have and as mentioned the "red earth" colour looks vibrant or over saturated. Looking at the street pic with my human eyeball mk 1 the Humbrol colour call outs are 31 matt slate gray for the "faded" green, 62 matt leather for the earth tone, 121 matt pale stone for the small beige sections and 92 Matt iron gray for the faded black sections. Some leeway with the last one. A bit of weathering will tone everything down obviously. Any additional comments welcome.
  2. Modern to me means 1990s on so 1960s/70s so MERDC schemes don't really come into play. I will however look at all the other suggestions out there. The Winter ones sound good and I've seen a few already. The Berlin Brigade scheme, while outside my "modern" preference is too iconic to ignore so I'll be doing one of those with the Takom Chieftain 2 in 1 kits and the Ammo MIG Berlin Brigade paint set. The Australian and Japanese schemes sound interesting and I've seen some of the Soviet schemes that look good. So all in all there's quite a few "out of the ordinary" schemes available. Cheers folks. As always a treasure trove of excellent information generously given. My deepest regards and I'm sure I'll be on here again with more inane questions.
  3. I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to uploading/sharing images. I have a very vivid pic (pre weathering) of a Greek Leo 2 but I haven't the foggiest notion how to load it on here.
  4. Hello again folks. This is becoming a bad habit. Me, continuously requesting information, help and support and giving nothing in return. So if my requests become too demanding and/or annoying please tell me. As the title says, I'm looking for a few camouflage patterns that may be possible alternatives to the standard NATO European scheme that is usually visible. This scheme, while striking and quite "attractive" can become a bit monotonous when applied to 10 or 12 vehicles. I'm doing a few Afghanistan vehicles which helps but I've seen a very vivid pattern applied to Greek Leopard 2 A6s which caught my eye. Having researched this scheme I am still at a loss as to the exact colour call outs. I don't think they are official NATO colours but beyond that I'm in a quandary so any information regarding the colours in this scheme would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you whether it's a solution or a recommendation to pull my head back in. Regards Keith Moynihan
  5. Duly noted sir. Any and all information is most graciously accepted. Lecture away๐Ÿ™‚.
  6. Next project is the 1/72 Dragon M4A1 Sherman in Normandy and as luck would have it one of the schemes is OD with disruption. So time for some research. Keep modelling folks.
  7. Does anyone know if the Italeri Short Stirling Mk. IV tug/paratroop version can be built as the Short Stirling Mk. I bomber version? At the moment the bomber kit is not in production and I'm just wondering if the Mk. IV kit is the same kit with an extra sprue and parts for that particular version or is it a completely different kit with only certain large components involved with many of the bomber version parts not included. Any information would be appreciated. Cheers.
  8. But ,alas, not in NWE from D-Day to VE Day. IIRC I think the 4th Armoured Division were the only Division to camouflage their AFVs and anything else was down to individual preference of the actual tank crews.
  9. I'm not really pushed about accuracy but I do like variety on my models. This is why US AFVs and softskins done in good old US number 9 Olive Drab drive me to drink. At least the British and Germans knew what camouflage was.
  10. Hello again fellow moddlers. I have another query regarding British AFVs. Was there a disruptive pattern applied with/over SCC 15 to British late war tanks i.e. from D-Day to VE Day? I have read the maafv and mtp 20 but they are unclear about this timeframe.
  11. Cheers folks. So US olive drab for the FF Heller M4. Straightforward enough.
  12. Would lend lease M4s supplied to Free French forces remain in US olive drab or would they be repainted in SCC 15 or a French equivalent? I would imagine that French specific tank paint would be close to the bottom of the list of material supplied to Free French forces but would their M4s be repainted at the same time as the British M4s?
  13. Just realised this should be in the AFV forum.
  14. Another query. Would lend lease M4s supplied to Free French forces remain in US olive drab or would they be repainted in SCC 15 or a French equivalent? I would imagine paint for tanks would have been close to the bottom of the list of material supplied to Free French forces but would they be repainted at the same time as British M4s?
  15. Thank you. Very much appreciated. That's my chatroom paranoia kicking in๐Ÿ™„. In the early days of the internet I made a comment in a chatroom that was taken out of context leading to much wailing and gnashing of teeth ๐Ÿ˜.
  16. Black Knight. I apologise if I caused offence. I assure you none was intended. I have reread my post and I can see how it may have caused such. It comes across as a statement of fact but that was not my intention. Perhaps a better turn of phrase might have been " could it not be beyond the realms of possibility " and also posed as a question and not the high handed statement it reads as. Again, my deepest apologies if any offence was caused.
  17. Accuracy would be preferred over personal feelings. Would it be fair to say SCC 2 with SCC 1a Mickey Mouse be more accurate for the Tilly in 1944?
  18. I've seen other posts mention that repaints would only be done if and when major overhauls took place and as wear and tear on support vehicles would be a lot less than front line vehicles it is not beyond the realms of possibility that a Tilly could last until 1944 in pre war RAF blue grey. I have found no evidence to prove or disprove this.
  19. Currently modelling the 1/72 Airfix Bomber Re-supply kit. Just a quick inquiry regarding colours. As I want a bit of variety I'm thinking the RAF Tilly in RAF blue grey, the Bedford in SCC 15 with SCC 14 Mickey Mouse pattern, the David Brown tractor in G3 with G5 disruptive pattern, the Bowser in SCC 2 with SCC 1a Mickey Mouse disruptive pattern, the cookie bomb trolley in SCC 15 and the other two bomb trolleys in RAF blue grey and G3. Would these colours be present on the same airfield and the same time (1944)? I've searched online and I cannot get a definitive answer. However, just because there is no evidence does not mean that it never happened.
  20. Hello fellow modellers. Keith is the name. I'm from Ireland. New member but making models for years. Due to lockdown I have recently got back into it. I'm almost exclusively 1/72 with a handful of 1/350 ships, 1/24 trucks and the usual assortment of 1/76 Airfix and Matchbox bought over 20 years ago before 1/72 became more popular.
