  1. Ink black, Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo Plus - I had 'better' cars after (S2000 x2) but this was a beauty. Made a lovely offkilter 5 cylinder burble, especially with the larger diameter stainless system and the decat. I can see why some dislike the looks of the standard model, but the final year production Plus with all the extras looked the business.

Owned it for nearly three years.

I expect that the Avenger might get more attention on here. 😄

Great work on a challenging scheme. I haven't built an NSR for a long long time. I think it's time I built one up.

To be honest, five-time world champion Mick Doohan was so good he made the racing a bit boring during his reign. I think that I only appreciated him after he'd retired (injury induced).

I used a Scale Motorsport PE set along with various Top Studio bits on this. I mostly used the original decals but also some of a limited SK decals release that I was fortunate enough to buy. The orange of the decals isn't an exact match. I shied away from spraying it myself as I thought that whichever way I went - orange on blue/green or blue/green on orange - would deliver dodgy colours. The original decals took that issue out of the way for me.

  4. Showing respect to Mike "the bike" with a lovely example there. 👍

His victorious return to the TT after years away from bike racing was one of the greatest comebacks ever seen. Twas the reason Ducati produced this bike, I do believe.

You have certainly made a great model from that old kit, It's as I remember the real bike, at the start of the race when it's nice and clean.

I met Barry Sheene and got his autograph the following year, 78, when he was racing at Spa in Belgium.  A few mates and I had taken our bikes to the GP from where we were stationed, RAF Wildenrath in West Germany.  Barry was tootling about the circuit on a monkey bike (remember them) hearing some British voices he came across to have a chat about our bikes and things, really nice friendly bloke.

    Sorry for the late reply.

Cheers. 👍 Your story really shows what a man of the people he was.

That's a very nice looking build. I wanted a Barry Sheene bike for my collection but the price of these now is far too high for such an old kit, so I got the larger scale, Italeri offering, which I think is a later bike.

It will be out of scale compared to my other bikes but it's what I could afford.

    Cheers.

I suppose the 1/9 could go in another location? Chance to spread the flock? 😉

Good to see the photo of your father on the sidecar outfit. Talking of sidecars I was friendly with Steve Webster

through his championship years ( through my best man) although lost touch now. No mean feat for your father

to have won a race,  albeit on a totally different machine to the outfits Steve rode.

Did you pick up any tips from Webster? Hold on when the going (marriage) gets tough? 😄

Dad did secure a few podiums with the solos. I can still recall the trinkets being stashed away. They would range from full blown 'spirit of ecstasy' style trophies, to engraved ashtrays!

A very tenuous sidecar link: my older brother bought a set of Darren Dixon's old leathers from him. He was unsuccessful when trying to convince the medical staff not to cut them off him following an accident (only collarbone, as I recall). 🤭

That looks superb. You have made a great job of a kit that is nowhere near Tamiya standard.  iconic bike and iconic rider.
Yes, the Barry Sheene phrase still sticks today the same as Stirling Moss to cars!!!
I saw Barry Sheene back in the day at Oliver’s Mount circuit, he was noticeably faster than all the other riders

    ( except perhaps your father!!!!😂)

    Great job

    Chris

    Cheers, mate.

Dad only managed one win, and that was in his days as a sidecar passenger.

Here he is on the old outfit.

The canvas boots really stick out today!

I built the Matchbox one for the missus many years ago, complete with rider - Barry was one of her heroes!

Can't remember anything of the build, but what I do know is the final result would not have been anywhere near as nice as your beautiful model!

    Really stunning build!

    Keith

    Thanks, Keith.

Kudos on getting it done to the wife's satisfaction!

A couple of spots of polish under the Suzuki decal here. Last minute dealing with the fingerprints but left an even more noticeable blemish!

The decal sheet came with a dirty great scratch from the factory (coating applied after). I used the affected decals on this side, so some have a noticeable join.

What a palaver! I know that some relish and take pride in taking on old kits and their deficiencies, but I'm pining for the next Tamiya!

If anyone has built this or the original Matchbox, well done.

Bazza's second World Championship winning bike. Unfortunately, neither he nor Suzuki could deal with the incoming 'King' Kenny the following year, so 77 was his final reign as champion.

I was too young to see Barry race bikes competitively but did see him a few times truck racing.

My dad was a club racer and has a claim to fame of being on track with Sheene at Brands. "He came past me at some speed. He had a really fast bike!" Yes, dad. That would've been why.

An inspiration to none other than Valentino Rossi his achievements still resonate with bikers today. I wonder how many still come out with, "Who do you think you are, Barry Sheene?", when addressing a 'spirited' rider?
