  1. Hey Im still waiting for the Jag I ordered Nov 11. The guy told me today that I shoulod get it his month.... damn!

Someone remind me never to ship surface from China.

Just imagine if your kit was in the ISO container that split apart on that ship last week. Your kit could be floating around the english channel. :analintruder:

  2. I've done some home work over the weekend. XT597 was in Naval colours for a good while, it replaced the Red/White Javelin. It carried a red fin and some red markings on the wing tips. It had the probe on the nose to calibrate speed and height. She was sent to St Athan for rippling prior to Greenham Common airshow (83?). She returned to Boscombe where all the anniversary decals were applied then flown to GC. On return all the decals were removed, but curiously the Lettering in front of the intakes was removed AT GC before flying back to B-D. My contact said in all his time he did see the rippled Phantom with the nose probe fitted, but it never flew (just being towed around the station). The engineers fitted it when it was required, and after it was rippled he was adamant it did not fly with the probe fitted. So it was only flown when in the Navy colours. I have taken measurements and will do a drawing and send it to you. Can you give me your email and i'll pass it on unless anybody else wants it?

  3. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh welcome to my world. Currently on UK ebay is a Fujimi 1/72 Anniversary Phantom up for grabs. As mentioned the decals were removed fairly quickly after the event. I have a few magazines with the "other" nose on, but don't have any scanning equip to put the photo on. How ever the Phantom just happens to be at the BD museum with the other nose, might be able to take some sneaky photos!!!. I've got both the Anniversary jobbie and the Yellow bird Fujimi item, which eventually will be in her pre-ripple days.............If i can be of any help let me know, as BD stuff is my bag.

  4. Do you know when or where the photo was taken? That might help - the codes do change as airframes move around.

Ummm. Twas Boscombe in the 80's. I'm doing the Chinook with the camera pods above the Rotor blades, and its bowing down toward the photographer. Unfortunately i've got no info other than that posted!.

  5. Oh yeah a couple of Q's, what decals and how did you paint the red?.

    John.

The decals were from an Model decals sheet - I can find out later (at work at the mo), the red is Halford finest again i can find out later tonight................ The whole things aerosoled as ive only just bought an Airbrush but no compressor yet.

  6. Is the original still mounted on the pole on the main camp road on the l/h side?

Walked past that many a time.

The Lightning is just outside my office (the old passes and permits building). Its XL629 with all internals removed. It looks like its been painted silver and is covered in moss - dying to clean it!.

  7. Here's my latest creation finished late last night. The kit is a mixture of Airfix and Matchbox. I sprayed the model Tamiya Aluminum (aerosol) then the shinny bits picked out with Foil. The nose wheel is Aeroclub and the mail undercarriage is Airfix as the Aeroclub jobbies just didn't like being bent into position. The seats are Airwaves and the pilots taken from a Hasegawa kit. The nose is has a light layer of cotton wool to provide the visual effect of the white ring the Lightning do on full throttle. The base is a £3 purchase at Telford.
