  1. Porton (down) tanks. From memory they are heavily modified fuel tanks to carry water with a die (mainly). They were extended and had bracing fitted around the body, just where the pylon meets the tank. They were also fitted with a dispenser at the rear. The Hunter was tasked to attack exercising troops to simulate biological/chemical attack. It made it easy for the instructors type chaps to determine who's been gassed/contaminated. Again it was also used to test Tanks and various Army/Navy stuff to test how air tight they were. There obviously now defunct but in the Boscombe Down Museum (in bits though).
  2. Well here's my take on XE601. The kit is the 1/72 Revell item. It was a pleasure to build and litterally fell together. I could not beleive the detail that came in the box. I drooped the airbrake a little as on the photos i have i assume they droop after a while. The "porton" pods were modified from the original tanks with the nose cut off and extended using Airfix Alpha Jet Cluster bombs. They were suitably rounded off and look the part. I also added the dispenser tube at the rear. The kit was sprayed LAG and the red tips and spin were sprayed red. The stripe was cut from decal paper, alot easier than my usual painting. All the decals are from the stash. The ladder came from a donation from Rowan (so again thanks). The wheels have been ironed and i only did a minimal of weathering, particularly on the guns ports. I always remember this aircraft being clean-ish. I was considering matting the finish but again it was alway glossy, so i left it. This brings back many memories of sitting at the end of the runway during the holidays + my dad tells me that my grandad armed this baby many years ago!!!!, also i remember marshalling it onto the line many a time - what a small world On reflection i might re-do the intake guards.
  3. I hear from the guys here, that the Tonka has been extended to 2025 as the Typhoon can't drop bombs.
  4. I like your weathered wheels. So many people leave them out, yet it the closest thing to the ground!
  5. I had a ganger in my Last of the Hunter book last night, and not one photo is of the underneath - sorry.
  6. This one: Phantom on eBay
  7. So i managed to pick up a 1/48 Hasegawa RN Phantom last night (box art shows it leaving a Aircraft Carrier). Is it any good?, only cost me £10 and the chap selling had loads of them FGR1 (RN & RAF) American & German kits all £10. The only thing that first comes to mind is the flaps/slats - wouldn't mind drooping them.
  8. Here's my first kit since the end of school holdiays, which involves some 8 week break. So its good to get back into it and the production line is open again. This is XX979 Jaguar GR1 from Boscombe Down. I remember seeing this one loads of times, when i should have been concentrating on sport at school. Ahh well wasn't good at football anyway. As you would expect the kit just fell together, with only a little filler required. The wing/flaps/slats are Airwaves and the fuel tank and extended pylons courtesy of Brian (MODeller). This about the 3rd model i've airbrushed and i have to say i like it. RBF tags are painted Tamiya tape. The clusters are from the kit and a Harrier i've got lying around. The only regret is that perhaps i should have put perspex in the LRMTS, but hey... As usual comments please......
  9. Making my wish list for Farnborough. Paints - but i need some help decoding sort of: What are the FS codes for: Harrier GR7/9 - grey (Revell 1/48th) Phantom FGR1 - the old Navy colours Harrier GR1 - green/grey with the LAG underside Harrier GR3 - green/grey wrap around - darker or did it just look like that? F15C - grey colours (Hasegawa 1/72) I'll convert the FS code into a website i was given to get the conversion for the most appropriate colour Thanks all.

    Bae Hawk

I hope it comes with the fat headrests
  11. I just use plain old water and i've had no problems. Got quite a good finish too?
  12. Any recommendations please for a british version?
  13. For the yellowie green stuff, i've got stuff from Misterkit.com (mkam-004 yellow zinch crom.primer) i remember getting in the UK.
  14. I've got some some where, i'll look tonight and find out where it came from - will let you know................
  15. Just delving into the LERX issue. Why are there 65% & 100% and what aircraft where they fitted to. Is the fleet converted now or was it a sporadic thing?.
  16. So am i right in saying the kit (72/48 Revell/Hase) both need 65% LERX and they dont come with the kit?. I'm only interested in the RAF version, possible commision build on the way......
  17. If i wanted to build a GR9 which kit would you guys recommend?. Normally i'm 1/72 all day long, but might have to dip into 48 scale?. I did see a Revell(?) GR9 on ebay for £10 in 41 Sqn markings......
  18. Absolutely terrible. It cost nothing, so don't expect much. Mine had no white pigment in the roundels. It looks like a SF; one to class as a "foot away" - ie it looks ok from a foot away
  19. Hey I really like it. Nice build thread too.
