  1. Decided to do the main markings using Montex masks - I've had some great success with those in the past.

    tn_Ta154 (30)

Using MRP AMT-6 Black (kind of a warm black) and Insignia White.

    tn_Ta154 (32)

Made another mistake - the codes should be much tighter up against the cross on the fuselage sides :raincloud:ย Don't know why I checked the photos AFTER I sprayed the masks!!!??

    tn_Ta154 (33)

Still, it gives the whole model a lift with those colours on.

    tn_Ta154 (34)

Painted the exposed engine and compartment.

    tn_Ta154 (35)

Also painted the open gun compartment, so that looks more like it now!

    tn_Ta154 (36)

Finished the decals, attached the wheel struts, nose and radar aerial mounts (unpainted so far). It's a tail-sitter at the moment but the main gear is drag-linked so the wheels sit further aft. Should be ok, and if it isn't, that's another mistake on my part!

    tn_Ta154 (37)

The Nazi symbol isn't included in the kit decals and I don't carry spares, so this will be a captured example. I'm sure the Nazi sign would have been scrubbed out as soon as paint was available! I used Xtracrylix RAF Dark Green.

    tn_Ta154 (38)

So, various mistakes notwithstanding, it's come out not too bad! I have the HpH 1/32 resin kit of this aircraft so this will be a good warm up and test bed of the paint and finishing techniques. Worth making the mistakes now so I get it right later!

    tn_Ta154 (39)

Still looks interesting - apparently it was a decent aircraft with very good power and acceleration, but thanks to its massive 'deer antler' radar antennae and bulky electronics, it couldn't hold a candle to the British Mosquito.

Hopefully will finish this week, then back to the Arado 234 for a proper fight!

    Cheers,

Looking good Alan, you have smoothed out the joins very nicely.

    Thanks again Craigย ^_^

This seems to have gone from 0-60 in 5 seconds, I think I've got my head around it now.

    tn_Ta154 (26)

Got some paint on - I stuck with the AK Air paints as i just wanted to try them out - they were okay but found it hard to get a good consistency fro the finer freehand spraying, so this is a bit more of a mess than I wanted.

    tn_Ta154 (27)

Also, the RLM 76 is a bit 'green' - although it loomks ok in contrast to the 75, it would look strange next to any other model in the same scheme.

    tn_Ta154 (28)

The edges of the blotches are not as fine as I would have hoped. I tried going over them again but it just didn't give the fine lines I wanted, even with the HP-CH 0.2mm airbrush.

    tn_Ta154 (29)

Moral of the story - stick to what you know! Should have used Xtracrylix or Colourcoats.

Also, those wings do look warped, even though to my eye they look straight :hmmm:ย

    ย

Meh, let's just get it done and move on with the Ar 234 :raincloud:

A super build Alan of what is obviously a super kit. I'm loving that scheme, long one of my favourites & it looks so right on that. ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you both ๐Ÿ™, such fine gentlemen โ˜บ๏ธ

Only just found this, must have been asleep!

There isnโ€™t anything to give it scale in your dry fit photos, but having built the Hasegawa 1/48 version Iโ€™d guess that itโ€™s going to be BIG.

    The resin looks nice.

Cheers John. It's smaller than I expected, seems to be quite a compact design. In 1/32 it's smaller than a P-38 Lightning.

  5. Okay, let battle commence! First job is to turn the rubbishy end-opening box into a top-loader:

    tn_Enforcer (8)

Seal the ends then cut three sides of the lid

    ย

    Into the cockpit:

    tn_Enforcer (10)

Cut, clean and tidy up the cockpit parts from the Halberd set. The fit to the kit parts is perfect.

    tn_Enforcer (11)

Then for some reason I went on to the stabilisers and rudder. The rudder needs a bit cut off the top to accommodate the fin extension.

    tn_Enforcer (9)

Finally for today I added the kit sidewalls to the Halberd fuselage and the tail halves, which again fit perfectly :innocent:ย Hopefully this will be the pattern for the rest of the build.ย

    ย

The only slight disappointment is the type represented and the decals are for the original Piper 1971 proposal, rather than the more interesting 1983-4 evaluation versions which failed to secure a USAF production contract at the time. I'm not sure how many differences there were - I can see some different blade antennae either side of the fin, plus a large pitot/instrumentation probe out of the left tip tank. If I can be bothered I might investigate that further.

    ย

Seems to be a promising start, let's see how it turns out!
