  1. Thank you so much. Best advise i could give is take it slowly and dry fit each and every step, as some of their instructions are rudimentary at best. But over all its a good kit. Oh yes watch out with the depth transfers, do not do what i did and drop them on the carpet. Dust and fluff are a right royal pain to get off them! Enjoy though and I'll look forward to seeing your finished model.
  2. Thank you so much for your comments. Arnold Ambrose, aye below decks working out how much fuel they've got left, probably. Robgizlu, I've seen that one too, its pretty epic to be honest and a beautiful model too! Rich75 the colours I used were Tamiya's own just flat white, xf2 and royal-light grey, xf-80, and a couple of their spray cans, the fine surface primer, is just the right colour and the Dull-red for the anti fouling. The plans you can see are in the book British battleships 1919-1945 by R A Burt, well worth a look. Here's a few more of the build too.
  3. Hello All, Just realised it's nearly 2 years since my last post. I have now completed my build of H.M.S. King George V, as she was delivered 1940 ish really a tribute to my grandad who served on board her for the entirety of world war 2. He joined her on the 1st October 1940 to 18th Nov 1946. From Stoker P.O. to Chief and then mechanic. Like all of us I'm sure, wish he was still here so I could quiz him about it. If he would tell me that is. Anyway enjoy the photos, very grateful for I.W.M. and their archive . its a huge resource and well worth the effort to trawl through it. I've also included some of the build as well I hope that is ok admin? I used the Pontos upgrade kit for Prince of Wales to KGV, Micromaster pom-poms, the excellent figures were from the Ukraine, anchors by North Star Models.
  4. Bit of an update, if anyone is interested. I bit the bullet and bought a Tamiya H.M.S. Prince of Wales along with the Pontos kit to convert her to KGV in about mid 1941, just before tackling KSM Bismark. What prompted the change was seeing some else do it too on another forum, certainly an inspirational build. I am tempted in putting up a build diary, but I know I'll be back at work soon so the modelling will slow down significantly.
  5. Thank you so much for the replies. I really want to do my grandads old ship H.M.S. King George v. I did the Tamiya kit years ago. But want to do it properly along with the Pontos kit. Sadly I'm furloughed just now so money is a bit tight so I think it might be the RNLI lifeboat from Airfix. Its a lot cheaper and there aren't any detail kits to distract me.
  6. Hello everyone, I have been a long time lurker, but I've just plucked up enough courage to post one of my own builds, H.M.S. Cornwall by Trumpeter, and Eduard's Big Ed kit, chinese barrels and wooden decks. I know there will be discrepancies and mistakes made not just by me, but Trumpeter and Eduard too, but this I'm not here to discuss them just now. Oh and this is the first model I have made for about 15 years and the first time I've ever used P.E.! I have to say I did really enjoy building it, even though, at times i found the PE kit incredibly frustrating and fiddly ( sausage fingers, shaking hands and complete ineptitude when it comes to rigging.)
