  1. I always find things go quickly in 1/144! I don't want drop tanks on this one, so I filled the underwing holes with generous dabs of putty. Fit is great, as it was with the Sweet kit. Meanwhile, some work on the forward UC is progressing well. In Platz's case, legs and wheels are one piece, which I think is probably a good decision and should eliminate some of the challenges I had with the Sweet kit's UC.
  2. Cool, a plane I knew nothing about! Very nice schemes!
  3. I just have to say again that paintwork is stunning.
  4. You bet, Mark! Eventually, anyway... Germany (Arma Mk I) is primed and patiently awaiting some paint!
  5. When Italy joined NATO in 1949 she was still flying sleek and shiny Spitfires. As part of my "Spitfires-by-the-Seas" project, in which I am building a pair of Spitfires in the markings of countries bordering five seas, I will build an Italian Mk IXc as part of my "Ionian Sea" pair for this GB.
  6. I haven't gotten quite to the priming stage on the a/c yet, but I did have my red rattle can out and so I sprayed the spinner.
  7. Ok, here's my second foal, this time a Platz 1/144 P-51D. It comes with a nice set of decals, which I may use at some point, but not this time. Just one sprue for all the parts, other than the canopy. This is the version I want to build because I find the blue/brown compelling!
  8. Yup, "informed inaccuracy"! I don't always need to be accurate, but I like my inaccuracies to be informed decisions, not surprises I find out later!
  9. This is a 1/144 Sweet P-51B, built OOB in captured Japanese markings. These are lovely kits, although I actually had some struggles with the UC and canopy--no doubt user error. I expect to have one more "munchkin" entry in this GB, so stay tuned!
  10. Finland is all done now. I'll probably do an RFI for her, not necessarily because she is particularly well built, but rather because I think a Hawker Hurricane on skis is just a really cool and interesting subject! Here are two pictures for now.
  11. All done! 1/144 canopies are really hard, and I didn't even find the scraping acrylic paint off with a toothpick trick working for me like it does usually. So, it was a bit of a sloppy finish. But, she's so tiny that as soon as I move my face six inches away she doesn't look so bad!
  12. I have some light grey on the underside. And now I have the forward UC together, as well. The rear wheel and exhaust stacks are fully painted, too, but I guess I didn't get pictures of those. I'm going to buy a couple of new paints for the upper, so mostly she'll be on hold now until I can get to the model shop.
  13. Thanks, @opus999 I masked up the landing and navigation lights and took Finland (Arma Mk I) outside to spray a matt clear coat. Now the canopy is on and I'm just working on the underside ID light now before she'll be completed.
  14. I saw someone do this with B-25s and it was brilliant (maybe this is what you're referring to). Not something I'll be tackling myself anytime soon, but gosh it was amazing to see! I have the prop and UC on now. I struggled with the forward UC and in the end I had to settle for it not going together perfectly. Sweet designs pretty close to perfect 1/144s, but I do think there may have been a better way to design how the doors fit onto the UC legs. Anyway, she's standing. I'll spray a satin clear coat next.
  15. Wow that was fast! And beautiful! Nicely done.
  16. After some primer, I have to say I'm happy with her than I have been. In the end the fiddly work seems to have come together into something half decent! And, right or wrong, how can one be unhappy with bright blue!?
  17. The other day I got her primed with a rattle can . . . . . . and then splashed a little Yellow Zinc Chromate into the wheel wells.
  18. I got her already for priming . . . . . . and then proceeded to primer her! Once the priming was complete and dry I sprayed my Tamiya aluminum. Then a little Yellow Zinc Chromate was brushed in the wheel wells. I got some paint into the cockpit and glued in the exhaust stacks and then applied all the decals. They've all gone on beautifully.
  19. Yay, another munchkin! I'm building one from the POW boxing. You're already ahead of me! I might do a Platz, too.
  20. A bit more progress . . . Finland has her skis! These are the Kora resin parts and they work quite nicely. I have the prop, pitot tube, and aerial mast on now, too. I have the canopy and windscreen painted, so now it's just a matter of doing some clear coat work before I can wrap her up.
  21. Finland (Arma Mk I) has her markings up top now. Just roundels (from Arma) in six places and serials (from Kora) are all the decals I'm using.
  22. she's emerged: Fuselage went together nicely, but the wing-fuselage join not so much. Tolerances are tight and I must have messed up the starboard wing just slightly such that it required some relatively aggressive sanding to get a fit. Still, now that she's together I'm pretty happy with the look. Thanks re: the cockpit. In this case I intend to have the canopy and door open so actually quite a bit will be visible inside. This was probably the most time I ever spent on a single seat cockpit, actually 😎
  23. I'd like to know, too. Probably I need to do more research. Wasn't even familiar with term "wing fences," so maybe now I have the search words I need! I got the cannons mounted and she's ready for primer.
  24. Finland's upper camo is mostly complete, and I splashed a layer of Pledge over top. I also installed the exhaust stacks. I do think I need a camo touch-up here or there, but close to getting the upper markings on.
