  1. Lovely work, it's always nice seeing Aer Lingus aircraft modelled.
  2. Hi all, Today I'm presenting my attempt at one of Airfix's starter sets, which is the Hurricane Mk.I I snapped up from Lidl when they were last selling Airfix kits for a fiver. This is a basic, out of the box build so I haven't gone for any additional detailing or aftermarket decals. Nice little kit to build and went together nicely. According to the box, this Hurricane was in No. 615 Squadron, Royal Air Force Kenley, England, August, 1940, so I decided that due to the frequency of sorties at the time and limited resources, it might be a little bit more weathered and went about getting a weathered effect using an all over oil wash and removed it after rather than using panel lining techniques. I think it made a nice effect in the ribbing of the wings, if a little subtle. The decals unfortunately have silvered a bit after I gloss varnished and I was impatient using plastic glue to get the canopy to sit in the open position so it ruined the clear effect. Didn't fancy walking a few feet to get my PVA glue... Anyway, let me know what you think, there are a few mistakes as I've mentioned but feedback helps and I hope I've done a good job in replicating a battle-worn Hurricane!
  3. Lovely work on both and a creative way to display them! I've picked up a fair few of those kits from Lidl over the past few years that still require some attention
  4. Lovely work all round, especially the weathering.
  5. Hi all, I recently wrapped up this mini after spending most of March painting him to a standard I don't paint to. I wanted to push myself and complete a model fit for a display and hopefully I achieved that. I tried NMM (non-metallic metals) for the first time, worked on white armour, OSL, weathering and pigment powders to get to where the mini is now. There is likely more that I can do to push it further, but finished is better than perfect and I am happy with the level I reached. Please feel free to peruse the photos, they are larger if you click on them to get into the details. C&C is appreciated too, of course!
  6. Hey all, As I whittle down my pile of shame, I present my Bladeguard Veterans and Lieutenant from the Indomitus box set. Going for a more realistic weathered style in contrast to the typical Games Workshop studio style. Bladeguard Veteran Squad Gallax of The Honoured First 5th Company Corpus-Lieutenant Cambega Ortiger Let me know what you guys think, these were fun to paint up and great models to boot. Feel free to have a look through the gallery at other angles, I didn't want to flood this post with half a dozen side and rear angles of the Bladeguard.
  7. Thanks everyone for the kind comments! @Blade2009 It seems we've gone opposite ways with the set! I'm currently painting up my Bladeguard from Indomitus. Great value set.
  8. Lovely build and it's always nice to see the odd IAC scheme make an appearance. I've had a MkIIc in my drawer for ages waiting to get some IAC decals.
  9. Hi all, Warhammer 40k is my go to hobby for the most part and I branch into scale every so often, but as I have a rather large pile of shame. The warhammer needs to get done before I indulge myself in other scales. Here's a Gamesworkshop Space Marine Eradicator squad from the Indomitus limited release set that came out mid-2020 and I'm only finishing these now. The symbols are freehand with the exception of the fist on the left pauldron and the weathering is done with a mix of brushed oils and acrylics with sponge weathering in places. Overall I'm very pleased and C&C is very much appreciated! Fire Support Squad Kato
  10. So it's only minor misting and I had done the majority of the clear coating before installing the glass on the piece, but I'd missed a bit and thought there wouldn't be an issue going over it. Sounds like a funny thing to do but in the moment it was what I'd decided, for better or for worse. Thank you all for the kind comments. I think it'll be a while before I do another scale car as the process is a good bit different to the aircraft or tanks I do.
  11. Hi all, New to the forum so thought I would show off a Christmas present I painted for my Dad in 2020. It's Tamiya's 1:24 Porsche 911 Turbo '88 or 930 if you want to go by exact numbers. It's his favourite car in his favourite colour so I wanted to make this a decent attempt. This was my first scale car so there were a lot of new things to learn in a relatively short space of time as I started this at the end of November and finished it on the 20th of December. Hard to complete working a full time job and trying to get home! I had no idea the amount of time it would take and how much back and forth there was in getting a smooth coat of gloss varnish and paint. The kit was easy to put together out of the box and was fairly low detail. If I was doing this again, I'd go for some aftermarket bits if there are any for this kit. C&C is appreciated, I am aware the black trim isn't spot on and I had the unfortunate occurrence of the "glass" misting when varnishing. Live and learn! Cheers! -Geo
  12. Looks great, impressive tonal variation in the blue.
  13. Thank you all very much for the kind words, glad to see the silver bodywork worked out even if it was somewhat by accident! @Properjob56 thanks for the tip, I was debating on going for the thicker one as I could use the same wire interchangeably between different scales.
  14. This looks very nice! The bit of history behind the scheme is a welcome addition.
  15. Very nicely done, I have an old tooling of a 1:48 Stuka from Airfix in my pile of shame somewhere. Good weathering and the link you provided gives some good insights!
  16. Thank you kindly gents and thank you TonyOD for the link to the rigging wire, I'll be getting myself a spool of the superfine stuff for sure!
  17. Incredible work, like others I thought I was looking at a larger scale! Very nice!
  18. Absolutely lovely work! Great brush painting.
  19. Thanks folks! I tend to keep the scale small whenever I do some modelling so I stick with 1/72 or 1/76 scale but I have some 1/35 and 1/48 aviation and armour to get my teeth into this year!
  20. Thanks Natter, I appreciate the feedback, I'll have to go looking for some aerial wire, I had used some stretched sprue but it kept snapping if I stretched it any thinner. I'll learn for next time. The metal colour is Vallejo Metal Color white aluminium, which was initially shiny until I hit it with matte varnish and it dulled it down to the results you see here. Not sure if I preferred it as a shiny aircraft or a dulled one, but I can't go back now!
  21. Hi all, Thought I'd show off my first build of 2021, an Airfix MiG-15 in 1/72nd scale. I've had this kit in my pile of shame for the best part of ten years, so finally getting round to it at long last. Always loved MiGs, and this one came out around when I started hobbying back in 2009. Have to say, reading up on the kit meant seeing the wide ranging problems with the kit; not to scale, panel lines too deep, poor fitting parts, the works. Not a bad kit if you aren't overly concerned about a few mm here and there, and I think it tidies up nicely. C&C is appreciated, not only is this my first scale build in 2021, it's my first since Christmas 2018, so a bit rusty trying to keep things realistic! Hopefully I've gotten the photo adding correct, if not someone say! - Geo
  22. Hi all, Dropping my first message as a new member to the boards after lurking some time, reading away at hobby blogs and ready for inspection, there have been some great models built and I'm keen to join in. Bit about me, I'm 24 and recently moved to Edinburgh for a PhD from Ireland so with all the goings on around COVID19, I've been working from home and getting back into the painting and modelling side of things again. I usually stick to wargaming, with Warhammer 40k being my main squeeze but as gaming is out the window right now, I'm turning to the hobby I was introduced to when I was 12, scale modelling. I'll be showing off some of my work soon and maybe I'll get time to start up a blog to keep my motivation going over the years. Cheers! Liam aka Geo
