I am a PPL as well as an avid RC Pilot (great Covid Pastime) but am fascinated by the skill and dedication displayed by you scale modelers. I was born in South Africa and my dad was seconded to the British Army in WWII, spending most of his time in North Africa and Italy. Consequently all my Warbirds are British, a Tempest, Spit, Hurricane and Typhoon are in SAAF Livery. I am here to learn more about detailing war birds and pick up some the techniques used in airbrushing. Also to admire the work displayed on the forum.
I was the head of Photography at the University of Cape Town School of Fine Arts in the 70s and early 80s. I also did some guest lecturing at Surry School of Art and Design, Trent Poly and derby in the 70s. Later I switched careers and opened the first Apple store in Cape Town, left teaching and returned to the US to work for the first PC Clone startup. Later transferred to the UK to work as a director of the largest distributor of IMB PCs in the 80s. We went public, I went home.
I am also a musician and used to play for Morris Dancers in Uxbridge in the 80s as well as traditional sessions in Ireland, Scotland and England. Also pretty decent at Sporting Clays but not quite the same here. Nothing like being on a local farm in the Piddling rain with a cup of tea and a bacon butty in your hand.
I was last in London a year ago March (Got out by the skin of my teeth) and hope to be back as soon as possible.
Adios!
