    Thanks georgeusa! Actually there are options in the kit providing one pilot seat with belts nicley molded on and another one without - and the kit´s pe belts are very nice too. But still i´d like to use paper ones. There are all sorts of belts by HGW and erlier by RB Productions - which is no longer in production, i believe - including sutton harnesses as were used in the Lanc (pilots seat only). I think the "A" type was from WW1. But then there were "QS", "QK", "ZB" and whatever else types. Just don´t know, which one is correct. And i did not find any of the other crew´s belts yet.....

    Does anybody out there know, which type of Sutton harness was used on the Lancaster bomber's pilot seat? Are there also any aftermarket belts for the other crew stations available? I'd like to use paper ones (HGW, RB) in my future 1/32 project.

    I'm definitely impressed! How many tins of Sovereign Hobbies paints did you calculate for this scheme? I might try those somedays, but i have to plan a bit in advance because those paints are not so easy to get here on the continent 🙄

    Looks really cool! Which colours did you use for those pieces? It is quite difficult to find proper references for the colours of those smaller arms of Rodney. Oerlikons and pompom directors too. Where the tones from the Royal Navy colour schemes used here as well or are those completedly different? I've got the Rodney on my stack as well - so any information will be appreciated.

    Thanks a lot, Ned. Seems plausible to me that it had the Mk I still, for it was one of the first to be equipped with HACS, as far as i know. And this must have been some really expensive piece of kit. So it would also be plausible it was not exchanged in 1942.

    Hi there, i'm doing some research on the HMS Rodney at the time when she wore her fancy camo scheme in 1942. And there's one thing i just can't find: which type of fire control did she have then? It looks like a HACS MKIII to me. But was it the MK III or the MKIII G 🤔 ..... or even something completedly different? The Radar on top of it was a type 285, right? Please, if there is someone out there who knows, leave a comment! Thanks a lot in advance.

    Very nice work Warren, congrats! May i ask one question regarding the fire control? Is this a HACS MKIII or MKIII G on top of the superstructure? The radar is a Type 285, right? Best regards, Christof

    Here i am back again 🐣 ..... way too little time, shiploads of work in the office and some health issues slowed down the build considerably but finally i´ve put the whole thing together. I still have to do some touchup and weathering, but alltogether i´m quite happy with my first WWI biplane. Of corse there are a heap of thing to make better still next time. The rigging was done with prym-elastic which was quite nice to handle. Turnbuckles will be tackled in a future build .... I´ve used some oil washes and soft pastels for dust and smoke effects. Still want to do some oil stains and splatters of dirt on the underside of the lower wings above the wheels. I´ll try to make some decent fotos when it´s completedly finished and post them in the "finished" section sometimes. Thanks a lot for watching and all your reactions and comments! The next project is already on my bench 😉

    So i´ve cleaned and primed the cowling parts using Alclad aluninium on the inside and a mix of Tamiya acrylics for the brownish red and lilac tones. A little wash and drybrushing added. The small triangular and round lilac hatches were taken from the aviattic parts which have been sanded down so only the hatches were left. The paint of radub´s etch parts of the radiator has been scratched with a cocktail stick after getting a wash with Tamiay black panel liner, which gave a really nice effect... ..... and i managed to tone down the overdone shading on the fuselage, especially at the top behind the pilot 🙂 ....sorry for the rather dark pics 🤨

    Hurray, i´m back: the cowling parts by aviattic are here! And they are beautiful. Just the customs fees were a real rip off! I´ve ordered These parts plus some decals for my Meng Dr.I (which are just exquisit too) worth some £65,- incl. shipping and they charged about £20,- 😩 Seems like buing from China is cheaper now post brexit… 😠 Whatever, i´m looking forward to go on with the build now. For i´ve already used the kits parts for these triangular fabric panels on the fuselage sides i will only use aviattic´s hatches here - a bit of cautious sanding down the resin will be required. And the fun goes on!

    Still no progress on this build.... 😴 Aviattic posted the conversion set i'd need a fourtnight ago and now it's stuck in customs. I think I'll start my Tamiya 32nd scale Zero now and post it in WIP soon.

    Thanks a lot Rob! I had a look at your builds and they're just amazing. The bases you're made are pretty damn cool too. And yes, its quite ambitious, especially as i've been exclusevly into large scale sportscars and 32nd scale planes before. There shiploads of techniques i will have to learn, research i'll have to do and collecting bits and pieces before i start. And a few other projects are in the pipeline still.... But those ships are just fascinating. So, dont now when i'll start but i will, and it may take a long time to build - and i'll make a thread on here. Xtof

    I´m planning to do the Trumpeter Rodney with the Pontos set in 1/200 at some stage, probably when i´ve got mor spare time than now. But a big part of the fun is research i´m doing in advance and finding interesting add ons. I just came across the Micro Master goodies on the net and wanted to ask if anybody had some experience with Micro Master? And are there some cpecial pieces one would recommend for building the Rodney? I´m quite keen on the charley floats. What about range finders? Boats? Hatches? As said before i´ve got the Pontos set and would only try to get those things that are a real improvement. Or does anybody know a mail adress so i could contact them directly? I could not find one on their website.... Thanks in advance, Xtof

    Thanks sanfrandragon, you´re right. I´ve ordered these parts from Aviattic already . Not very much Progress till they arrive The decals set is from Aviattic as well and the quality is just outstanding. Sadly for making those decals they seem to have started from the premise the builder would have the OAW kit. So i´m missing the adequate crosses as well as the tiny "Nur hier anheben" stencils for the wingtips. I´ve made my own decals for the crosses and i think about painting a tiny white scribble for the stencils…. Here´s a pic from the model with my decals. The white is a little too less opaque so i´ll have to do some touch up there.

    So before i make any update on my little Swabian i´d like to dedicate this build to the wonderful Melvyn Hiscock who so very sadly passed away. I´ve mentioned him before in this blog when he tried to send me the missing cowling parts to convert my Fokker to the OAW built version i´m doing here. It was a pleasure to communicate with him via this forum. A truely great modelmaker who was so very kind to help a newby like me! Thanks Melvyn!

    They're just brilliant! But i found out on my Fokker D.VII Seven Swabians set the wing crosses are missing and you have zo use the ones from the kit. For i don't have the OAW kit but the Fok. instead i have to make my own. Also the stencils on the wingtips are lacking. The lozenge are beutiful - be careful with preshading and keep it subtle!

    Step 1 on toning down the preshading. I tried to soften the annoyingly bright stripes that came from the masking before preshading by using soft black pastels and a small stiff brush. I think i will try to make it a bit more uniform still by applying a light sandish-grey oil filter wash thing after varnishing. Never done that before so i might go from SNAFU to FUBAR.....
