  1. Pat I bought a set from them for the very reason you have in your ps. The set looked rather “home made”. On arrival and visual examination they looked distinctly lacking in print density so I won’t be using them on any model that’s 95% complete and which I am happy with to that stage I might get round to another random set and trying them first on a paint mule to see how it goes. Hope you have success. I’d think any white decal might benefit from an undercoat of white but life it too short tbh
  2. For me Bobby Charlton greatest achievement was impressing on my schoolboy youth not any of his great goals or other statistics but what it was to be one of the worlds greatest sportsmen any time and generation. A great player but a greater man
  3. I’ve dealt with such cases when doing the day job up here in sunny er wet Scotland. Often done an interdict (injunction to those southerners on here) for the recoverable costs award just because I get royally hacked off by these types who think their actions have no consequences. Comes a bit of a surprise to the social harassers to find themselves £3k or so out of pocket for their hobby activities. Thereafter the troublemakers either draw in their horns and result to a sulky glare or they stick up a for sale sign. Best advice. Do what your solicitor advises.
  4. “when are you going to tidy up those paints. Look at the mess you have made. And the smell. Put those sharp knives away safely. And that sprue leftover is everywhere. I was thinking some nice curtains over the shed window. And it could do with a repaint and new floor covering but you had better not spill paint on it once it’s done…….”
  5. Move over "Two Sheds Jackson" and come on in "Three Sheds Mike"
  6. is he referring to a caravan there @Mike? Hmmn. His and Her sheds? That would be one up on the neighbours.
  7. @Enzo the Magnificent I suspect you had picked up my own doubts on practicality when I was posting so I had rather anticipated that my musings were a non starter for the very good reasons you set out. I can still "lurk" along without the pressure of a deadline anyway ! @81-er Not a bad idea but perhaps it might require to be done informally - outside troubling the mods and poor Enzo who has enough on his plate. What I mean is you do the first one in the twins build and technically fail to complete but then when the D-Day one comes round you mention "and here is a second one I failed to complete earlier" sort of thing? That way @Enzo the Magnificent doesn't have to tinker about with dates etc. I have no idea how @Tolga ULGUR manages to produce such great 1/32 models with the frequency he does. Very impressive build rates and a joy to see them. For me work, family demands and life generally gets in the way all the time.
  8. Sounds like an interesting concept. One problem I have is that I build in 1/32 - or rather start in 1/32. Whether it gets finished is a whole different matter. So I was wondering about the time frames too. I certainly wouldn't get 2 1/32 models done in the normal time frame. All the more so if the subjects are "twins" which are inevitably just bigger anyway. An option is to do what I usually do and be a fellow traveller in the shadows, lurking happy in the knowledge there is no finish line pressures and enjoying watching real modellers do their stuff. It has me thinking though. Would different stop lines be an idea or probably just be an over unnecessary and time consuming complication?
  9. Sitting today at the observation platform at the hotel opposite Heathrow Terminal 5 watching departures. A few huge A380’s, 777’s and such like with Mrs T marvelling at the size when along comes an A220. Mrs T -“Oh look - here comes a baby one”
  10. The elastic band snaps? and the tail gunner goes AWOL sitting on the tarmac as the rest of the crew depart for enemy coast ahead minus a rear fuselage. I suppose if the acceleration was smooth and progressive like an ejection seat then the stresses might not have been impossible to overcome , like the CAM ships catapults. It would be nice to see one reconstructed even if a replica and slightly off topic I can never quite believe how brave those pilots were on the CAM ships on the North Atlantic convoy run. To sail on those convoys required courage in itself. Then add to be fired off to engage in air to air combat plus after surviving that additional risk, to bail out or ditch into the freezing ocean and hope for a fast pick up before you drown or freeze just defies imagination as to the sort of man that volunteers for that.
  11. Anyone up for scratching one of these? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-67052782

    Really???

Was talking to a mate about old Hammer vampire films and he reminded me of a photo of Christopher Lee about to bite his fake teeth into a young maidens bosom. I had totally forgotten about that. I said to him “Fangs for the mammary, mate.””

    Hi All

Hi Neil. Welcome and good to see you. I'm mostly aircraft myself but recently have felt a "pull" towards the odd ship model. That takes me back to 1/600 Airfix models. Don't worry about making a hash of a kit early on. That's the place where we all started out and some like me never quite left . The trick is not to mind. Oh and don't listen to @Mike about us biting. The age demographic on here most of us don't even have their own teeth. A bit like the German Shepherd that lost his teeth. He couldn't bite the postman but did give him a vicious lick every second day. I am afraid that's about the standard of jokes on here too. John
  16. A very nice “cheeky young pup” bravo
  17. I might be a tad odd here but I actually find it interesting that Airfix got it quite as wrong as they did. It is an insight into how things work or don't work and where even skilled persons can make bloopers. I suspect its down to human frailties. I doubt making a lash up of something is more prone to one group than another whether that be by age, gender, or any other category one can or can't mention these days. That said given the expertise that is available from forums like this one I am surprised that manufacturers don't avail themselves of it more often than they do Often good advice and information is freely given but a thank you noted on the box and a dozen free kits would not hurt I dare say. Still it gives us something to write about. By the way I was soooooo disappointed when I eventually found out aged 16 that The Millie "P" as I misread her wasn't painted red at all as my 11 year old had so admired. Ah well.......
  18. Well not often you see an unidentified type high wing float plane overflying the house heading South at 11.45 ish today over the Scottish Borders at Earlston. Don’t see that every day
  19. and by Google translate " Hello and greetings from the French Alps! ⛰️ My name is Christian, you can call me Chris, excuse me for my broken English... I have been making models since I was 7 years old, and I now mainly make warships from WWII to the present day, in 1/350 and 1/400 scale, including submarines. I try to make as many dioramas as possible. I am very proud to come to this forum... Nice to meet you all!" We are a bit crazy here at times but the friendliest group you will find on the internet. I hope you have a happy time with us and look forward to seeing some of your models John

As said you won’t be able to use the buy and sell function under the rules at present until you’ve done more posts. It’s to try and stop folk coming here and being a bit naughty I’ve seen those sets come up from time to time on EBay so worth checking there
  21. @IanHx makes a very good point. Can I add that not only is insurance desirable but check the policy terms carefully. Some have a limit on how much they will pay for a single item (think expensive jewellery) which has to get an endorsement and a premium payment hike to cover it. Most single models will be below the limit but the odd Uber expensive one not. Plus the stash might get viewed as a “collection “. Think stamp collection eg. Again check if the “collection” might need special cover. If you don’t and there is a claim do not imagine for a second an insurer won’t bump it if they can. Edit ps I just did a quick calculation. Some people on here have a 100 plus stash unmade. Even a relatively inexpensive kit can cost £40-50. Add some aftermarket such as decals or etch and it’s going to be nearer £60 each or on average. So stash value around £5000. More if you get into 1/32 where price per kit is over £100. An insurer will not like a claim for £5000-10000 for 100 models if that’s not declared at the inception of the policy. On the other hand if they are asked and say it’s fine then they have to pay up. Better to check with them and stay insured rather than not check and discover you are not covered after making a claim following on a loss
  22. suprised there is confusion between a wish list and’ a prediction simple example:- wish list - I am taken away for a mucky weekend on three consecutive weekends by three gorgeous young ladies Prediction - I get a slap when my wife sees this
  23. Colin - we had that - it was called the 60's 1/72 - lots 1/48 - oh a few Monogram kits 1/32 - What are Revell doing now whats 1/24?
  24. Oh that might just be worth dropping hints over at present time. A late Christmas present. There is just “something” about the Defiant. I just wish we could get a 1/32 scale model. 1/24 would be too much to hope for.
  25. you have started something. My one is now glaring at me from the box on the to do shelf and insisting on moving up the build queue
