  1. Oh yes. Chair well pulled up and attention turned up. Lots to learn. I have one of these in the stash so it might get built one day. Must pull it out and check parts ! Lesson number 1 learned there. Great start out of the blocks and running well there young Alan
  2. Sorry Mike. My bad. What I meant but didn’t type was - are the malaise/ issues etc at Boeing confined to the 737 or right across the product range and affecting other aircraft from Boeing
  3. @hairystick Hmmn Yes I wondered abut that at first too but thought it must be press sensational reporting. If the cockpit door wasn't secured then.......................................... @NoSG0 You know you couldn't make this stuff up. I already raised an eyebrow at the most scrutinised aircraft in history comment made earlier in the media. Makes you wonder if its just the 737 assembly line that's a bad apple or if its insitutionalised within the company.
  4. True on both counts That said Ive just had a read up following on your post and what a movie the early transatlantic flights would make. The US Navy Curtis getting across in stages. The efforts to do the first non stop and culminating in the final part - the non stop solo flight. Drama with those lost trying. Where is Speilberg when you need him??
  5. Ah. I had rather excluded that. I have/had the 1/32 Hampden; 1/32 Beaufort and in the past the 1/32 Vampire in the stash. Certainly a blank canvass and while @tomprobert would make a cracking job of them they remain at the very bottom of my to do pile. Much modelling experience required. The vampire hit the bin the day after my Infiniti model arrived. That said it is the only game in town if you must have a 1/32 Jaguar
  6. my 2p worth. Black is an incredibly difficult colour finish to keep clean. As the owner of at least 4 gloss black cars over the years I know of what I speak !!! Heaven knows what it must be like on a matt black airframe after a few weeks of use or standing outside. Without seeing you particular subject it is hard to say but you do mention a gloss finish. I suspect that might weather from high gloss to a sheen fairly quickly but you mention your subject was at their CEAM. There it might have been much better looked after and had a wash and polish regularly. From a quick Google French Invaders either look pretty rough or pretty pristine and very "black" with not much in between but that's not a scientific study. If I was you I think I'd go for the latter with minimal weathering. I think you are not far off the mark with your first thoughts here.
  7. I know its not a fixed wing jet but as its been mentioned above I spotted that Revell's 1/32 scale Alouette II is being re-released next month. Preview on Hyperscale today. Must be a good set up with the Landrover and a Harrier? Why is there no 1/32 Sepecat Jaguar when you need one ?
  8. says it all. I remember being very excited at the time and raided my 15 year old pocket money savings for it the week it came out. As Jack Reacher titled “Never Go Back” But maybe a nostalgia build and a blank canvass approach
  9. Hawker P1127 - I remember that coming out and it getting old as the years passed by. Then if I recall rightly a breakfast cereal maker had a promotion and this kit and the early Jet Provost and Folland Gnat (& maybe the Northrop Freedom Fighter too?) could be had for tokens. Fast forward and it started going for silly prices on a well known auction site. The reissue will mean sensible pricing and no big deals on auction sites then. Too bad HMRC taxman then
  10. Careful there young Adam. I once posted as likely as a 1/32 Lancaster and we ended up with two !!
  11. Thought it was obvious. I mean res ipsa loquitor Now going back to modelling the chariot
  12. there you go Mike https://davidjparkins.com/product/raf-bloodhound-mk-2-sam-missile-and-launcher-the-dog-still-barks/
  13. BBC reporting this aircraft showed “warning lights” - whatever that may mean - on three previous occasions https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-67909417 some of the reporting raises more questions than answers.
  14. Just had a thought. David Parkins at Flightpath do a 1/32 Bloodhound. Look good with a Landy next to it and a homage to the old Airfix 1/72 offering/ approximation
  15. @Julien Now US Regulator has grounded that particular model of 737 Max 171 aircraft https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-67903655
  16. Hawker Hunters in 1/32 are decent kits and really quite cheap on EBay other market places are available edit. Noticed you know about the Hunter. Sorry. Vampire then in 1/32
  17. I know it will never happen but a 1/350 QE class battleship in 1916 fit as at Jutland would be nice
  18. 1. 1/48 Stirling yes but either just before or after a 1/48 Halifax please. 2. Hair shirt etc? No need to put on your Sunday best to stand in the corner young man
  19. Not good to say the least. That could have been much worse if at higher altitudes and seat belts off. I confess to being a tad unhappy when I see my flight is in a 737 these days and I’m not a worried flyer by nature. Boeing had a good reputation years ago but need to be doing it better. Still good recovery by the lady up front and no physical injuries. The young boy that lost his shirt might have a few nightmares though poor kid
  20. Hi Alex no you just stick your head above the parapet and your name gets added to the unwashed masses participating. Talking of which I have a P-38 Lightning that has sat waiting for a start so I will take part too JohnT
  21. Probably the tax man too going by the recent posts on here . Just imagine - sections in the tax office with inspectors going "No I'm Airfix on E-bay - You want him next door he's Tamiya on Etsy"
  22. @wellsprop I got this in an email from the consumer chap Martin Lewis which you might find helpful Link:- https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2024/01/online-platforms-etsy-vinted-airbnb-report-hmrc/?utm_source=MSE_Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=03-Jan-24-e01332feb0846e58e18-6595c22eb7f5dfcc6515e5898ea63a08&source=CRM-MSETIP-e01332feb0846e58e18&utm_campaign=nt-oneliners-one&utm_content=1 Hope you and others find it helpful bestest JohnT
  23. I suspect that is spot on. Which still takes me back to my question - what is the marketing strategy behind the decision to go 1/35? Is it just "Lets make models in 1/35 for diorama builders" or more to it than that? I'm curious as to their management thinking. I truly want them to succeed if they are punting out kits with this level of accuracy, detail etc. I just would like to know why they think its a better option to go 1/35 in a market place where nearly every other mainstream manufacturer goes the 1/72/1/48 then 1/32 route. If the thinking is we will break the mould (please excuse pun) and create a sea change in the market then its not a strategy that works that often in business though there are some exceptions.
  24. @wellsprop no doubt an accountant will be along in a minute ! As I heard it the changes are to target businesses who use on line selling sites like those mentioned to do retail sales as a business and not really targeting chaps like yourself. Most of your sales do not generate any profit and following general tax rules should not therefor create any tax liability. The resin parts manufacture and sale might create profit but once you factor in production costs and overheads it should keep you well below a profit of £1k pa. As I say though an accountant is best person to advise. Do we have any tax advisers/accountants as members on here ??
  25. The “new” scale can be discussed as much as we like but clearly Border have a plan here with introducing aircraft models in 1/35. I am not sure I am wholly convinced by the “they are for dioramas” theory. No criticism of dioramas. Personally I love seeing them done and regard it as “advanced modelling” come art. I just wonder about demand and unit cost sales. That however is Borders problem. If they have it right then great. The more top model companies the better. My worry is have they? As I said in an earlier post have they explained their marketing strategy? How do they see their product line fitting into the market? For that matter have they been asked? It seems odd that they are clearly looking at top end quality moulding and then choose a scale where the product is not compatible with other manufacturers and while not unique 1/35 is not a scale the established manufacturers have thought worthwhile to venture into for aircraft. I guarantee going 1/35 was a discussed decision and carefully planned. I can only think of that sort of adventurous marketing happening when a truly big player with very deep financial pockets comes into a new (for them) market place and are looking to become top dog. We are all speculating at present but does anyone know? My question is really directed to asking what the thinking at Border is. It has to be said their CAD drawings look delicious and mighty impressive so all power to them. PS wonder what the size difference between an He111 in 1/32 and 1/35 and would we really notice if parked alongside a Revell 1/32 Ju88 for example?
